The final Shadow Wolf backed away.
Its chest rose and fell rapidly.
Blood dripped from the wounds Kael had carved into its body.
Yet...
It didn't run.
Its emerald eyes remained locked on the two hunters.
Leon spun his spear once.
"It knows it can't escape."
The wolf growled.
Then it exploded forward.
Not at Kael.
At Leon.
Clang!
Leon met the claws with his spear.
The impact forced him back a step.
Before the wolf could press its attack—
Kael appeared from the side.
His sword swept toward its ribs.
Shhk!
The wolf twisted away just in time.
A shallow cut opened across its flank.
It immediately leaped backward.
Its eyes darted between the two hunters.
Looking for an opening.
Finding none.
It charged again.
This time it feinted toward Leon before suddenly turning on Kael.
Kael barely reacted in time.
Clang!
Claws scraped against his blade.
The force pushed him back.
The wolf followed relentlessly.
One swipe.
Then another.
Then a bite.
Kael gave ground.
Leon moved.
"Flash Pierce."
Boom!
His spear flashed forward.
The wolf sensed the danger and abandoned Kael, twisting away at the last instant.
Even so—
Shhk!
Leon's spear carved a deep gash along the wolf's flank.
Blood streamed down its side as it cried out and stumbled.
Kael didn't waste the opening.
He rushed in.
The wolf spun to meet him.
Its claws and sword collided.
Clang!
Neither gave way.
The wolf suddenly lunged with its jaws.
Kael tilted his head aside.
Its fangs brushed past his cheek.
Too close.
The beast landed and tried to retreat.
Leon cut off its path.
The wolf immediately changed direction.
Kael was already there.
For the first time...
It had nowhere left to run.
Its growl deepened.
Then, with a final burst of strength—
It leaped.
Straight at Kael.
Kael stepped forward instead of back.
"Ripple Slash."
Shhk!
The first slash knocked its claws wide.
The wolf's chest was left completely exposed.
The second slash followed before it could recover.
Shhk!
The blade swept across its neck.
The Shadow Wolf landed behind Kael.
It took two shaky steps.
Then...
Collapsed.
Silence.
Leon slowly lowered his spear.
"It's over."
Before either of them could relax—
A long...
Mournful howl echoed through the forest.
"Awoooooo—!"
The sound carried through the trees.
The forest fell deathly silent.
Every bird stopped singing.
Every insect went quiet.
Kael froze.
Leon did the same.
An invisible pressure washed over them.
Every instinct in their bodies screamed.
Danger.
They weren't alone.
Something...
Had locked onto them.
Leon's expression turned grim.
"...Peak Bronze."
The air grew heavy.
Whatever had answered that howl...
Was already on its way.
