The forest was silent.

Too silent.

The mournful howl still echoed through the trees.

Neither Kael nor Leon moved.

They didn't dare.

Every instinct screamed the same warning.

Run.

A twig snapped somewhere in the distance.

Then another.

Heavy footsteps.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Not the frantic charge of a beast.

The confident approach...

Of a predator with nothing to fear.

Leon's grip tightened around his spear.

Cold sweat rolled down his temple.

"...Don't fight it."

Kael's eyes remained fixed on the darkness ahead.

The pressure kept growing.

Each step drew closer.

His breathing became heavier.

His heartbeat pounded in his ears.

A pair of emerald eyes appeared between the trees.

Higher than the others.

Larger.

Colder.

The figure stepped into the moonlight.

It was a Shadow Wolf.

Nearly twice the size of the ones they had killed.

Its black fur seemed to swallow the surrounding light.

Scars covered its body.

One long scar stretched across its muzzle.

Its gaze slowly swept over the three corpses lying on the ground.

It didn't growl.

It didn't move.

It simply looked.

Then...

Its eyes settled on Kael.

A chill ran down his spine.

It knew.

The beast had already identified who had killed its pack.

Leon slowly exhaled.

"...Peak Bronze."

The wolf lowered its head.

It sniffed the blood staining the earth.

A deep...

Mournful growl escaped its throat.

Not rage.

Grief.

For a brief moment...

The forest remained frozen.

Then the wolf lifted its head.

Its emerald eyes turned murderous.

"Run!"

Leon roared.

The two hunters exploded in opposite directions.

Boom!

The Peak Bronze Shadow Wolf vanished.

The ground where it had stood shattered.

Kael's pupils shrank.

Too fast.

A deafening crash erupted behind him.

Leon spun and thrust his spear.

"Flash Pierce!"

Clang!

The spear met a massive claw.

The impact blasted Leon through the air.

He crashed through two trees before finally stopping.

Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

Kael's heart sank.

One exchange.

That was all it took.

The difference between an early Bronze hunter...

And a Peak Bronze beast...

Was overwhelming.
