Hunt Race

Chapter 86: First Blood

The spear pierced empty air.

The Alpha vanished.

Kael's eyes widened.

"Silent Veil..."

"Don't stop moving!" Leon roared.

A cold chill ran down Kael's spine.

Too late.

A claw burst from the darkness.

Slash!

Kael twisted at the last instant.

The attack ripped across his side instead of his chest.

Blood splashed onto the forest floor.

The force hurled him several meters away.

"Kael!"

Leon charged without hesitation.

The Alpha appeared again.

Its claws met Kael's sword.

Clang!

Leon held his ground.

The Alpha pushed harder.

The ground beneath Leon's feet cracked.

His Overdrive was fading.

His muscles screamed.

Still...

He refused to move.

"Kael!"

Kael forced himself to his feet, clutching the spear.

The Alpha suddenly disappeared again.

Leon's eyes widened.

"Behind you!"

Kael spun.

Nothing.

Then—

A killing intent exploded from his left.

He thrust instinctively.

The spear met only air.

Another claw flashed toward his neck.

"Duck!"

Kael dropped instantly.

Whoosh!

Leon's sword swept over his head.

The Alpha withdrew just enough to avoid the blade.

Its emerald eyes shifted toward Leon.

For the first time...

The two hunters stood shoulder to shoulder.

Neither spoke.

They simply watched each other's movements.

The Alpha vanished once more.

Silence.

Leon slowly raised his sword.

"Wait..."

A faint ripple disturbed the leaves behind him.

"There!"

He slashed.

Clang!

Steel met claws.

The Alpha appeared for a split second.

Kael was already moving.

The spear shot toward its flank.

The Alpha twisted away.

The tip missed by inches.

It disappeared again.

Leon's breathing grew heavier.

His arms trembled.

Overdrive was reaching its limit.

Another heartbeat.

Another silence.

Then—

The Alpha appeared directly before Leon.

Its claws crashed down.

BOOM!

Leon met the attack head-on.

His knees buckled.

The sword bent under the pressure.

The Alpha committed fully to the strike.

"NOW!" Leon roared.

Kael exploded forward.

The spear shot toward the Alpha's exposed flank.

The Alpha tried to pull away.

Too late.

Shhk!

The spear ripped cleanly across its flank.

Blood sprayed through the air.

The Alpha landed several meters away.

A low growl rumbled from its throat.

Kael immediately retreated.

Leon stepped beside him.

Neither lowered their weapons.

The Alpha took another step.

Its pace faltered for the briefest instant.

Its emerald eyes narrowed.

It could feel it.

Something had changed.

The growl deepened.

Not from pain.

From anger.

The forest fell silent.

The Alpha slowly lifted its head.

Its gaze never left Kael.

For the first time...

It looked at him as a genuine threat.
