I Awakened The Ancient Vampire System
Chapter 144: A Very Nice and Long ChatChapter 144: Chapter 144: A Very Nice and Long Chat
Khalil pressed his clawed hand harder against Bruno’s neck. A thin line of blood rolled down from the blade’s edge.
Lucian’s grip on Aethon tightened. His eyes flicked between Khalil and Bruno — calculating distance, reaction time, whether he could reach Khalil before his clawed hand cut deep enough to kill.
Then something moved in the sky above.
Shadowy eagles — a dozen of them — dove from the dark clouds. Not Zephyr Eagles. These were smaller, D-Rank, their bodies made of living shadow that rippled and shifted like oil on water. Their eyes glowed faint purple.
Khalil’s head snapped up. He dissolved into blood mist — hsssss — and reformed twenty meters away as the shadowy eagles struck the ground where he’d been standing. Crack-crack-crack. Their talons gouged the stone.
More eagles descended. Eight. Ten. Fifteen. They swarmed Khalil from every direction — scree-scree-scree — shadowy talons raking at his mist armor, beaks snapping at his face and neck.
Khalil snarled and raised both hands. Blood mist blades erupted around him — swish-swish-swish — cutting through the shadowy eagles one by one. Each one that died dissolved into wisps of dark smoke, but more kept coming, diving relentlessly, forcing Khalil to split his attention.
A female figure materialized from the shadows behind him.
Dark hair. Pale skin. A dagger in her hand made of condensed shadow.
She stabbed him in the heart.
Schluk.
Khalil’s eyes went wide. He looked down at the dagger buried to the hilt in his chest. Blood welled around the wound.
Lucian’s eyes widened.
"Lemora?"
The dark-haired girl turned her head. An evil smirk played across her lips. She looked exactly as Lucian remembered her — the same face, the same features, but harder now, colder, with an edge that hadn’t been there two years ago.
Khalil’s body went limp. The shadowy eagles scattered. He dropped to the ground — thud — dead, his blood mist armor dissipating into nothing.
Bruno, still pinned to the wall, stared at her with recognition in his eyes.
Lemora pulled the dagger free and wiped it on Khalil’s clothes. She looked at Lucian and smiled — a soft, endearing smile that was completely at odds with what she’d just done.
"We’ll see soon, Lucian."
She dissolved into shadow. The shadowy eagles dissolved with her. In two seconds, the street was empty except for Khalil’s corpse and the four of them.
Omar — still pinned to the building by light blades — screamed at the sky.
"You traitorous bitch!"
Lucian raised his hand. "Mind Spike."
The mental lance struck Omar’s consciousness. His eyes rolled back. His head slumped forward as he became unconscious.
Lucian released the light blades holding Omar, caught him before he hit the ground, and slung him over his shoulder.
"We’re leaving," Lucian said. "Now."
He could feel it through Blood Sense — their fight had drawn attention. Two massive signatures approaching from the north, along with dozens of smaller ones. Wolves from the Black Forest. C-Rank, at least. Other beasts mixed in — mutated hounds, armored boars and so many more.
Wei Chen pushed himself to his feet, wincing. Bruno groaned against the wall, consciousness flickering back.
Lucian accessed the system shop. Two Sky Grade Healing Pills — 1,000 SC total. They materialized in his palm.
"Take these."
He tossed one to Wei Chen, who caught it and swallowed immediately. The other went to Bruno, who chewed it with difficulty and swallowed.
The effect was rapid. Wounds closed. Internal bleeding stopped. They wouldn’t be at full strength, but they could stand and move.
Lucian raised his hand toward Khalil’s corpse. "Solar Flare."
FWOOSH.
The concentrated sphere of light engulfed the body. When it faded, nothing remained but scorched stone and ash.
They ran.
The rain was still falling. The green poison streaked off Lucian’s skin harmlessly. Wei Chen maintained a mana barrier. Bruno’s Martial King Body had faded as he used a mana barrier instead.
Lucian carried Omar over his shoulder without visible effort.
Wei Chen broke the silence first.
"How do you guys know about vampires?"
Bruno and Lucian ignored the question.
Bruno glanced at Omar’s unconscious form bouncing against Lucian’s back. "What are you going to do with him?"
"Question him."
Wei Chen caught up, still limping slightly. "What if the vampire doesn’t talk?"
Lucian didn’t slow down. "I have my ways."
They ran in silence for another block. Lucian’s mind was elsewhere.
Lemora.
If not for his vendetta against Louisa, he didn’t really have any prejudice against her. She’d been kind to him during those years in the Du Maurier estate — friendly, warm, the only person who treated him like something other than a pet or a blood bag. He remembered her laughter, her attempts to include him in conversations, the way she’d snuck him extra food when Louisa wasn’t watching.
But none of that mattered.
What Louisa did would always overshadow whatever goodness existed in her daughter. The torture. The blood draining. The ten years of being treated like livestock. Lemora was part of that family.
They reached a warehouse on the eastern edge of the district. Lucian kicked the rusted door open and stepped inside.
He dropped Omar on the concrete floor and turned to the other two.
"Continue without me. I want to have a chat with this bastard."
Wei Chen raised an eyebrow. "Hope we won’t get jumped by other vampires."
"No. They were only after me."
Bruno crossed his arms. "Why were they after you?"
Lucian looked at Omar’s unconscious form. "I’m about to find out."
Wei Chen and Bruno exchanged a glance. Neither pushed further. They left through the back entrance, heading toward the remaining Task Force stations and Hunter Guild outposts in the city.
Lucian pulled a length of rope from the system — Mana Restraining Rope, 4,500 SC — and bound Omar to a heavy metal chair bolted to the warehouse floor. The rope suppressed mana flow at the point of contact. Even if Omar woke up and tried to dissolve into mist, the rope would disrupt the transformation.
Remaining system credits: 8,000 SC.
A notification flashed.
Quest Completed: Survive
Reward: 20,000 SC
Current System Credits: 28,000 SC.
He stood in front of the chair and waited.
Omar’s eyes fluttered. Groaned. Opened.
He looked up at Lucian. His expression twisted.
"You bas—"
Lucian stabbed him in the leg with a Light Blade through the thigh muscle.
Schlik.
Omar screamed. The sound echoed off the warehouse walls.
"AAAAHHHH—!"
Lucian waited for the screaming to die down to whimpering. Then he stabbed the other leg.
Schlik.
"AAAAAAAAHHH—!"
Omar thrashed against the ropes, the chair scraping against the concrete. Blood ran down both legs, pooling beneath the seat.
Lucian crouched in front of him. Their faces were inches apart. Omar’s eyes were wet with pain and fury.
Lucian’s voice was quiet, calm and terrifying at the same time.
"Now, Omar al-Khamsin. We’re going to have a very nice and long chat."
