I Awakened The Ancient Vampire System
Chapter 156: Lord of the Black Forest (1)Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Lord of the Black Forest (1)
Clara looked at the small green sphere in Lucian’s hand. "What are you going to do with the plant’s core?"
"The Viridian Blight Colossus core will be useful to Ryan’s plant," Lucian said.
Clara tilted her head. "Is that the name?"
"Yeah."
Rose glanced toward the darkening forest. The green rain had stopped completely, and the distant sounds of battle were shifting. "We better leave. The rain has stopped, which means the beasts will probably start rushing back."
A roar split the sky.
Rroooaaahhrr!
A sound that vibrated through bone and marrow and consciousness itself, a frequency that pressed down on the brain like a physical weight. Every person in the group clapped their hands over their ears in pain.
Lucian and Clara were hit worst. Their vampire senses — hearing capable of tracking heartbeats at five hundred meters — amplified the sound to unbearable levels. Clara’s ears bled. Lucian’s vision whited out at the edges.
The roar died down.
Then the ground vibrated. A deep, rhythmic tremor rolling outward from the heart of the Black Forest, strong enough to make the trees sway and the soil shift beneath their feet.
Everyone turned toward Sarah.
Sarah’s face was pale. "That wasn’t me."
The two Peak Core Realm officers stood frozen. Their faces had gone white.
Wei Chen lowered his hands from his ears. "What the hell was that?"
The axe-man didn’t answer immediately. He was staring at the forest with an expression of pure terror.
"We better run now."
He turned and started running toward the city.
The group followed.
Clara caught up to the axe-man as they crashed through the underbrush. "What was it? What caused that disturbance?"
The officer’s voice was tight. Strained. "The Lord of the Black Forest and one of the 8 great calamity beasts. The Titan Ape — Grimveil. Its destructive power is close to that of a veteran Astral Realm cultivator."
Lucian’s stride faltered for half a step.
He remembered hearing that name at the orphanage in France. 11 years ago. One of the old caretakers had told stories about it by the fire.
The Great Calamity.
"It was one of the beasts that led the Great Calamity on Europe fifty years ago," the officer continued, not looking back. "The Titan Ape — the Leviathan — Abyssal Hydra — Storm Wyrm — Ashen Wraith — Frost Behemoth — Magma Titan — Thorned Sovereign. Eight great beasts, each one powerful enough to destroy a small country on its own. They emerged simultaneously from different regions and laid waste to everything in their path."
Lucian remembered the stories. The old caretaker had described them like passages from a nightmare scripture.
The Titan Ape had crushed entire cities under its fists. The Leviathan had swallowed naval fleets whole. The Storm Wyrm had torn through the atmosphere, creating storms so powerful they altered weather patterns for a decade. The Abyssal Hydra had risen from the deepest ocean trenches and drowned coastlines. The Ashen Wraith had spread through Eastern Europe like a plague of shadows, killing anything it touched. The Frost Behemoth had frozen the Alps solid, turning half of Central Europe into a frozen hellscape. The Magma Titan had turned the Mediterranean into a boiling cauldron. The Thorned Sovereign had grown a forest of thorned vines across Western Europe that consumed everything organic within its range.
They killed millions. They destroyed nations. They reshaped the geography of a continent.
"Eventually, the greatest human awakeners of that era had to step up," the officer said, gasping as he ran. "They managed to injure some of them. They even managed to kill the Ashen Wraith — the only one of the eight great beasts confirmed dead. The remaining seven retreated to their territories. The Titan Ape has been silent in the Black Forest since then. We thought it was dormant. But all the noise from the forest and the city seems to have awakened it. Now it’s on the move."
Clara’s face was grim. Lucian said nothing.
The Titan Ape was awake. And it was heading somewhere.
Back at the city, the Starveil Wind Master — Aldric Blackwood, Peak Grand Core Realm — was engaging the Bloodfang Alpha.
Wind clashed with wind.
Aldric moved with speed that belied his age, wind manipulation propelling him across the battlefield in sharp, precise bursts. Wind blades erupted from his palms — concentrated crescents of compressed air that could slice through steel. He attacked the Bloodfang Alpha with a fury.
The wolf was fast. Faster than it had any right to be for a Peak B-Rank beast. It dodged wind blades, countered with claws that shredded stone, and snapped its jaws at Aldric’s throat whenever he got close enough.
Aldric sent it flying with a concentrated wind blast — BOOM — but it landed on all fours and charged right back.
Crack-crack-crack.
They exchanged blows at speeds that left afterimages. The forest around the battle zone was flattened. Trees were uprooted. The ground was scored with claw marks and wind scars.
Then a beam of concentrated energy pierced through Aldric’s left shoulder and out the other side.
Schliiiik.
Aldric grabbed his shoulder, blood pouring from both wounds, and staggered. The Bloodfang Alpha hung at him, jaws snapping—
"Cyclone Severance!"
A concentrated tornado erupted from Aldric’s body, catching the wolf mid-lunge and sending it spinning into a mountain wall. CRASH. The wall collapsed on top of it.
Aldric turned toward the figure that had ambushed him.
A man in black clothing, but he had no mask unlike his colleagues. Peak Grand Core Realm. A evil smile on his face. Energy still crackling along the fingers of the hand that had fired the beam.
Aldric’s eyes narrowed. "Zero. Have you no shame? Sneaking up on me." He pressed his bleeding shoulder, face tight with pain. "I guess I should expect nothing less from the Dark Order."
Zero looked at him with a hideous smile. "It seems you still remember me, old man. It’s been forty years now since I attacked your territory and you sent me back injured. I will never forget that day."
His smile widened.
"Now I have brought an even better gift for you, old man."
Zero laughed.
A strong tremor spread across the battlefield.
Aldric’s eyes widened in horror.
"Zero. What have you done?"
