I Became the Blacksmith NPC

Chapter 50: Upgrading? Did You Bring Enough Money?

Sunny Sky gave a slight nod to the group, walked forward to examine the six large gates surrounding the arena, then turned to Night's Gentle Chill: "It's manageable. I can handle it."

You can handle this? Hidden classes are that terrifying?!

"Old Ye, how did you get this person here?" A hidden class player who had gone unnoticed for so many days? They had over a thousand people under their command, and not a single one had known about this guy.

"Money. Solo wolf." Seeing Heart and Soul's private message, Night's Gentle Chill immediately replied with those four words, then walked over to Sunny Sky's side: "Let me give you a quick rundown of the current situation—"

"No need. I've killed plenty of Blood-Light Moths." Sunny Sky said flatly.

"That weapon of yours…" Night's Gentle Chill carefully pointed at it — a spear, a weapon that didn't seem to appear in any NPC shop. "This dungeon drops everything in your inventory when you die. Is that weapon going to be a problem?"

Sunny Sky didn't hesitate, directly sharing the weapon's details for Night's Gentle Chill to inspect.

Gale Spear: Attack 30, Attack Speed 1, Durability Unknown (Growth-type weapon. Cannot be dropped. Cannot be destroyed.)

Cannot be dropped? That's fine then… As for cannot be destroyed — that gave Night's Gentle Chill a bit of a headache. Sunny Sky had only made one request in exchange for helping with the dungeon: that Night's Gentle Chill pay to upgrade the weapon.

A weapon like this could still be upgraded? Hidden classes really were broken.

Night's Gentle Chill began to worry about his wallet. Normally, a failed upgrade would shatter the weapon — but since this one couldn't be destroyed, did that mean it could just keep getting upgraded indefinitely?! The thought even made him hope Liu Kongkong's hammer would be extra forceful today and smash the spear to pieces!

But before that.

"Since everyone's here, shall we begin?" Night's Gentle Chill glanced at Sunny Sky after speaking, saw him nod, and immediately had everyone prepare to enter.

"In a moment, you and your friends — stay together." Sunny Sky said as he walked to the center of the arena.

Stay together? Wouldn't that mean forty or fifty moths would be piling on top of them all at once?! The group didn't understand why Sunny Sky had arranged things this way. Was he saying they were too useless and would just get in the way?

Still, out of respect for the hidden class, they obediently stood together to "wait for death."

The other team members were equally confused, but there was no time to overthink it. They turned to see the Blood-Light Moths already swarming toward them and immediately snapped to attention.

"You five — don't move!" Sunny Sky called out sharply. Front hand like a pipe, rear hand like a lock — he launched a spear thrust with the speed of thunder, slamming it directly into the lead moth!

Holy shit! What a beast! Night's Gentle Chill and the others stared wide-eyed. The Blood-Light Moths were terrifyingly fast — the team's Archer had been unable to land a single hit before; arrows couldn't even keep up with the moths' speed. Yet this guy casually knocked one out of the air with a single strike!

But with six of them standing together, the moths converging on them were far more than just one! The next second, over fifty Blood-Light Moths came surging in as a swarm!

Sunny Sky's gaze sharpened. He'd fought these monsters in the open field plenty of times, but never this many at once — a genuine first. He immediately pulled the spear back, gripped the shaft with both hands, and began spinning it rapidly. The spear whirled at such speed that it formed a solid barrier!

A rapid series of collision sounds rang out! The swarm of moths slammed into the barrier and staggered, damage numbers bursting from their bodies!

-1, -1, -1…

Was this how the game was supposed to be played?! By comparison, Night's Gentle Chill felt like he'd been playing as a disabled person for the past few days!

"So this is what my ex-girlfriends meant when they talked about feeling safe…" Heart and Soul stared blankly at Sunny Sky's back, completely dazed. One person, one spear, holding off that many monsters while keeping five useless players alive — and still dealing damage to the moths at the same time!

What an incredible man…

The first wave was completely deflected. As the Blood-Light Moths began to pull back—

"Piercing Cloud!" Sunny Sky's movements shifted in an instant. He thrust the spear forward and skewered three moths in a single strike! Clean and decisive — three Blood-Light Moths died on the spot.

"We've got this, Old Ye, we've got this! This guy is absolutely not an ordinary player!" Heart and Soul sent an excited private message to Night's Gentle Chill.

Not ordinary? He doesn't even belong in the same genre as us! Night's Gentle Chill reached out and covered Ye Weinuan's eyes. Even he, a grown man, was having trouble keeping his composure watching this — let alone Ye Weinuan. If he hadn't noticed in time, she would have been completely sucked in.

And so the second wave came, then the third. Sunny Sky's movements didn't slow in the slightest — if anything, they grew more fluid. Watching the number of Blood-Light Moths gradually decrease, Night's Gentle Chill finally saw a glimmer of hope for clearing the dungeon!

But the good times didn't last. On the sixth wave, they were finally wiped out.

The reason was simple: the other teammates couldn't hold on any longer.

Holding off over fifty moths was already Sunny Sky's limit. Once teammates started dying, the moths that lost their targets would redirect to others. When the count reached eighty, even Sunny Sky was overwhelmed.

They kept at it for several more hours.

Throughout the process, Sunny Sky performed with remarkable consistency, and the other team members improved considerably as well. Everything was trending in the right direction.

After being sent back to the respawn point yet again, Night's Gentle Chill checked the time — the NPC should be on shift by now.

"Let's go." Night's Gentle Chill led the way toward the blacksmith shop. To clear the dungeon faster, he decided to get Sunny Sky's weapon upgraded first.

And so the group arrived at the entrance of the blacksmith shop.

"Master Liu, my brother here needs a weapon upgrade!" After several hours of witnessing Sunny Sky's capabilities firsthand, Night's Gentle Chill had developed a genuine interest in recruiting him, and was already calling him "brother" in a friendly tone.

Sunny Sky glanced at Night's Gentle Chill without expression and said nothing.

Upgrade a weapon?

Liu Kongkong walked out of the blacksmith shop and froze when he saw Sunny Sky.

A spear?

He reached out and took the weapon, opened the panel to check it, then looked up at Night's Gentle Chill: "You're paying?"

"That's right. Help me upgrade this weapon to… +5!" He glanced at Sunny Sky after saying it, saw him nod, and let out a quiet breath of relief. He wasn't sure how much each upgrade cost, but based on past experience, getting to +5 shouldn't be too outrageous.

"Confirmed +5?" Liu Kongkong checked the upgrade price.

"Confirmed."

"Then pay up. 20 gold."

"20 gold? It only costs 20 gold to get to +5?" Night's Gentle Chill was taken aback. Hidden classes were that affordable? He'd originally expected at least 100 gold!

Liu Kongkong let out a small chuckle: "That's for the first strike. I hope you brought enough money."

This was Liu Kongkong's first time seeing a spear. The weapon hadn't come from his shop, and based on his years of gaming experience, it was probably tied to a class. As for the upgrade price — it was genuinely outrageous.

But understandable, really. A growth-type weapon — barring any surprises — would stay in a player's hands until the game shut down for good.

"The first strike costs 20 gold?!" Night's Gentle Chill's whole body jolted. Then, trembling, he handed over the money. The memory of past upgrades was still fresh in his mind — if one level cost 20 gold, then that meant…

Clang — +1 succeeded without a hitch.

"40 gold." Liu Kongkong extended his hand with a perfectly calm expression — but to Night's Gentle Chill, the man in front of him looked like a demon that devoured people whole.

Pay up, hammer down! +2 succeeded.

"80 gold." Hand extended again.

Clang again. +3 succeeded.

"160 gold."

Night's Gentle Chill's face had gone pale. Fortunately, the in-game currency exchange rate had been plummeting for some reason lately — if this had been a few days ago, he genuinely wouldn't have been able to scrape together that much.

Pay up, hammer down again!

Clang. +4 succeeded.

"320 gold."

"Hold on a moment." Night's Gentle Chill turned to ask Ye Weinuan for money — the hammer was falling so fast he hadn't had time to get his funds ready.

Pay up, hammer down.

Clang-clang — upgrade failed…

"320 gold." Liu Kongkong extended his hand.

The upgrade had failed, but the weapon hadn't shattered — however, the fee still had to be paid again!

"Just a moment more…" Night's Gentle Chill turned around awkwardly, going to Heart and Soul, Eagle, and the others to pool more money together. Once he had it, he carefully placed it in Liu Kongkong's hand and said in an almost pleading tone: "Master Liu, could you maybe put a little more heart into this next strike? That's over 300,000 yuan on the line here!"

"300,000 yuan? I don't know what you're talking about." Liu Kongkong's face was utterly blank.

Without even a glance, he brought the hammer down.
