It was just after noon when Lin Mo arrived outside Professor Liu Yue’s office, his heart full of anticipation.

Just as he raised his hand to knock, the door opened, and someone stepped out.

Lin Mo saw who it was and instantly clenched his jaw, trying to suppress the anger boiling in his chest.

“Assistant Lin, good afternoon,” Wang Haoran greeted him with a casual smile, pulling the office door shut behind him.

“Good afternoon, Student Wang,” Lin Mo responded quickly, keeping his tone polite even though he didn’t dare confront the other man directly.

“What brings you here?” Wang Haoran asked, his expression seemingly relaxed.

Lin Mo found the question a little odd, but raised the folder in his hand and replied, “I’m here to deliver some teaching materials to Professor Liu.”

“What kind of materials?”

“Lecture notes and class-related documents, of course,” Lin Mo answered, unable to shake the strange feeling that this spoiled rich kid, who clearly disliked him, was suddenly being unusually chatty.

He immediately lost interest in making small talk and turned to leave without another word.

Lin Mo watched him walk away, frowning with suspicion.

Knocking twice on the door, he called out softly, “Professor Liu, it’s me.”

“Come in.”

Her voice floated from within the office.

Lin Mo pushed the door open, stepped inside, and placed the folder on her desk. As he glanced up to greet her, his eyes paused in surprise.

“Professor Liu, your face is really red.”

“Is it?” Liu Yue instinctively raised a hand to touch her cheek. It did feel unusually warm. Her heart filled with silent embarrassment as she cursed a certain someone in her mind, but she kept her expression calm and replied, “It’s just the weather. A little hot today.”

Before Lin Mo could dig any deeper or ask more questions, she quickly added, “Anyway, if there’s nothing else, please excuse me. I have some work to finish.”

Lin Mo didn’t leave right away. Instead, he asked, “Professor Liu, did you meet with Wang Haoran’s guardian like we discussed? Is the matter resolved?”

“We met, yes, but things are still unresolved,” Liu Yue said with a regretful look. “So your teaching assignment will have to be postponed again.”

In truth, she had already promised Wang Haoran she would never let Lin Mo teach. She wanted to hold onto her principles, but in the end, pleasing someone she cared about mattered more.

“I see… so it’ll still be a while,” Lin Mo said, disappointment clear in his tone.

“I really did try my best,” Liu Yue replied, looking helpless.

Judging by her expression, Lin Mo believed her. Though frustrated, he still managed to say, “Thank you for your efforts, Professor.”

“It’s no trouble,” Liu Yue said, shaking her head.

“I’ll take my leave, then.”

With a downcast look, Lin Mo turned and walked out of the office, closing the door quietly behind him.

【Ding. Host has successfully manipulated events behind the scenes to prevent Lin Mo from teaching. Gained 1000 Villain Points. Lin Mo’s Protagonist Halo -50. Host’s Villain Halo +50.】

Wang Haoran smiled to himself as the system notification chimed in his mind. He wasn’t the least bit surprised—after all, Liu Yue had just promised him this personally.

He glanced at his hand, still able to feel the lingering warmth and softness from earlier. The frustration he’d been harboring because of Liu Yue’s distant behavior had completely vanished.

From now on, he figured, there would be more reasons to stop by her office.

Just as his mind wandered, his phone buzzed in his pocket.

He picked it up, saw the caller ID, and answered.

“Qin Fan called me earlier,” Cheng Rui’s voice came through the line. “I didn’t answer, but I’m guessing he wanted to ask about that five hundred million.”

“Keep stalling him,” Wang Haoran replied flatly. “Don’t give him a single cent.”

Qin Fan already had high combat power and no shortage of flashy tricks. If he got his hands on that kind of money, wouldn’t he become completely unstoppable? With that kind of cash, even chasing female leads would be a breeze for him.

That was not something Wang Haoran wanted to see happen.

“Understood,” Cheng Rui said. Then her tone changed. “I have a video here. Want to take a look?”

“What kind of video?” Wang Haoran asked, confused.

“You’ll understand once you see it,” she said, her voice sounding a little hesitant.

His brows furrowed. With Cheng Rui’s affection level maxed out, there wasn’t much she wouldn’t do to impress him. Could the video be… something personal?

Holding that suspicion, he accepted the file and opened it once the transfer completed.

A few seconds in, his eyes widened.

“So… you watched it?” Cheng Rui’s voice returned, carrying a strange inflection.

“I did. And it was amazing. Absolutely amazing.”

Wang Haoran felt like hugging her right then and there.

The video was of Qin Fan. But its contents… were not something that could be shared in polite company.

He never would’ve guessed that a man like Qin Fan—someone with sky-high combat power—would have such a bizarre hobby behind closed doors. If that video ever got leaked, his reputation would be shattered. Forget chasing female leads; he might not even be able to charm a pretty side character again.

“I had someone install discreet cameras in the villa after Qin Fan left,” Cheng Rui explained. “I originally just wanted to observe his habits and find his weaknesses. But I never expected… well, you can’t really tell what kind of person he is just by appearances.”

“You did good,” Wang Haoran praised.

“Do I get a reward?” Cheng Rui asked with a soft laugh.

“What kind of reward do you want?”

“I don’t mind. Whatever you give me is fine.”

Wang Haoran’s expression changed slightly. “Ma Hongsheng seems to respect Qin Fan a lot, doesn’t he?”

He already tried scheming against Tantai Yaoyue once, but from the way things stand, unless they officially get together, it would be nearly impossible to take advantage of her again.

Ma Hongsheng was Qin Fan’s disciple. Taking him down would still earn points and rewards from the system.

“Yeah, he respects him a lot. According to Ma Hongsheng, everything he knows about making money came from Qin Fan. His success, his status—they’re all thanks to Qin Fan.”

“In that case, getting them to turn against each other won’t be easy,” Wang Haoran muttered with a sigh.

He could poison Ma Hongsheng to remove him, but that felt like overkill. Qin Fan had ninety-nine disciples. If he used poison for each one, wouldn’t it be obvious someone was targeting them?

If Qin Fan became too alert, he’d be much harder to deal with.

That’s why Wang Haoran wanted to take out each disciple using different methods, to avoid drawing suspicion. Poison was just one tool in the box—and preferably one to be used only once.

Ma Hongsheng was weak. Killing him with poison would be giving him too much credit. It would be a waste of such a method.

Instead, Wang Haoran thought, the smarter move was to drive a wedge between him and Qin Fan. If Ma Hongsheng turned against his master, he’d stop helping him. That shift alone could alter the story’s trajectory.

In terms of changing the plot or triggering rewards, driving them apart was just as effective as killing Ma Hongsheng outright. The problem was finding a way to make that happen, especially when he respected Qin Fan so deeply.

“It won’t be easy,” he muttered.

“Difficult, yes,” Cheng Rui chimed in softly, her voice almost playful, “but not impossible.”
