Hearing the casual tone in Qin Fan’s voice, Ma Hongsheng clenched his fists before he even realized it.

He could give this man money. He could give him a car. But what he could never forgive was someone laying hands on his woman.

A seething rage surged through his chest, and for a moment, he felt the urge to go all in, to throw everything away and fight Qin Fan right there. But reason clawed him back. He knew he was no match. In front of Qin Fan, he was barely stronger than an insect. The man could snuff out his life with a flick of the wrist.

Worse still, he was relying on him to cure the residual poison that still lingered in his body.

Qin Fan narrowed his eyes slightly as he noticed Ma Hongsheng’s stiff expression. “Little Ma, what’s the matter?”

Ma Hongsheng forced himself to relax his hands, loosening his fists slowly before he managed to pull out a strained smile. “It’s nothing.”

Qin Fan didn’t believe him, but he didn’t press. If Ma Hongsheng didn’t want to talk, there was no point in forcing the issue. Besides, he wasn’t here to care about Ma Hongsheng’s mood. His mind was on the five hundred million yuan and that shiny new Veyron he had been promised.

Yesterday, Cheng Rui clearly said that everything would be ready by eight in the morning. The money, the paperwork, the car—all of it.

But it was well past that now. Qin Fan’s patience was thinning, and without bothering to mask his anxiety, he asked, “So, has the money and the car transfer been taken care of?”

But again, he swallowed it down. He didn’t dare confront Qin Fan head-on, not yet. He still needed him for the treatment.

“There’s been a complication,” Ma Hongsheng said, his tone deliberately vague. “The money and the car will have to wait a while.”

Though he couldn’t tear things open yet, he had already made up his mind. The money would be delayed, the car would be delayed, and everything else would be put off until he recovers. Once the poison in his body is gone, he will settle this account properly.

His wife was defiled. What man can tolerate such a thing?

He already started thinking about how to deal with Qin Fan. The man might be powerful, but money could move mountains. And Ma Hongsheng had no shortage of that. As long as the price was right, he was sure he could find someone strong enough to take Qin Fan down.

【Ding. Host has successfully manipulated events from behind the scenes. The wedge has been driven between Ma Hongsheng and protagonist Qin Fan. Ma Hongsheng has developed murderous intent toward the protagonist. Plot deviation achieved. Host gains 2000 villain points. Qin Fan’s protagonist halo -100. Host’s villain halo +100.】

Qin Fan frowned. “It’ll take more time?”

He couldn’t help feeling a wave of disappointment.

In a city like this, having no money made even the most basic things difficult. These last few days had been frustrating, and he had been counting on that five hundred million to turn things around.

Ma Hongsheng saw his expression and quickly added, “The company’s cash flow has run into serious issues. One of my old confidants, someone who’s been with me for years, ran off overseas with a large sum of money. I had to cover the shortfall, and even five hundred million isn’t enough to fill that hole. I’m planning to mortgage my properties and luxury cars to secure a loan, but even then, I’m not sure it’ll be enough.”

He let out a heavy sigh and looked at Qin Fan with a pained expression. “The company is facing a serious crisis. If things go badly, I might go bankrupt. I just found out about this after waking up. It hit me like a thunderbolt. I hope you can understand, Master.”

The moment he finished, he glanced at Qin Fan’s face, watching for a reaction.

Qin Fan fell silent, a hint of realization dawning in his eyes. The disappointment remained, but he no longer had a good excuse to push further. Under these circumstances, asking Ma Hongsheng for money would just make him look greedy.

He cursed silently. If he had known earlier, he would’ve gone out and made his own money instead of wasting all this time waiting.

Feeling stifled, Qin Fan finally said, “Then I’ll take my leave.”

Ma Hongsheng didn’t try to stop him. In fact, he couldn’t wait to see him go. He immediately ordered a servant to escort Qin Fan to the door.

As for the mansion, the car, and the driver arranged for Qin Fan, Ma Hongsheng didn’t plan to take them back.

Once Qin Fan left in the business car, Ma Hongsheng returned to the main hall of the mansion.

“Why didn’t you give the money and the car to Master?” Cheng Rui asked, putting on a puzzled look.

“I have my reasons. You don’t need to ask,” Ma Hongsheng replied gruffly. Thinking about what she had endured last night made his heart ache, but he still couldn’t tell her the truth.

Cheng Rui nodded and smiled lightly. “Alright. I won’t ask.”

“Do you still have that video you showed me yesterday?” Ma Hongsheng asked.

“It’s still on my phone,” she replied.

“Good. Send it to me.”

“Okay.”

Cheng Rui had a rough idea of what he wanted to do. She opened her phone and sent the video over without a second thought. After checking the time, she said, “I’m heading to the company.”

“Go ahead. You’ve been working hard lately. Once I recover, you won’t have to bear so much anymore.” Ma Hongsheng gave her a faint, grateful smile.

Cheng Rui picked up her handbag and made her way to the garage. Once she was gone, Ma Hongsheng played the video again. As he watched it from start to finish, his lips curled into a cold, bitter smile.

He might not dare confront Qin Fan openly yet, but that didn’t mean he would let him off the hook so easily.

If this footage ever made it online, it would do real damage to Qin Fan’s reputation. And if Qin Fan tried to find out who leaked it, Ma Hongsheng already had a plan. The mansion was purchased from a previous owner.

He planned to use the video as leverage, pretending to blackmail Qin Fan into paying a ransom for its silence. Then, under the excuse that the payment was either too little or too late, he would release the footage online.

That way, even if Qin Fan got suspicious, the trail would never lead back to him.

Meanwhile, Cheng Rui was already halfway to the company when she suddenly pulled over on a quiet stretch of road. She took out her phone and called Wang Haoran.

“Everything’s going according to plan. No problems. And your Veyron is still yours,” she reported calmly.

“Well done,” Wang Haoran replied with a satisfied tone.

He had just received a system notification, so Cheng Rui’s update didn’t surprise him in the least. Still, thinking back on the events of last night, he couldn’t help but feel a little tense.

Qin Fan’s combat prowess was off the charts. His senses were sharp as a blade. Slipping into the Ma mansion and playing out that performance with Cheng Rui had taken extreme caution. One misstep, and he could have been discovered.

Thankfully, it all went smoothly. They nailed the act, and he got out clean.

“So, what about that reward you promised me?” Cheng Rui asked carefully, building up the nerve to remind him.

Wang Haoran didn’t answer her question right away. Instead, he brought up something else entirely, his tone suddenly colder. “Why did you lie to me?”

“Huh? What did I lie about?” Cheng Rui sounded genuinely confused.

“You told me you were naturally cold. But last night, you didn’t seem cold at all.”

Her face flushed red, and her voice dropped to a whisper. “I swear I wasn’t lying about that. I really used to be like that. But I don’t know what happened. You just touched me a little and I… I…”

Her words trailed off, softer than a mosquito’s hum, almost inaudible.
