A sleek Pagani rolled into the campus of Yorous University, its engine growling softly as wide-eyed students turned to stare. The luxury supercar drew instant attention, shock, and awe painted across the faces of onlookers. It coasted to a stop beside a stretch of open space near the campus road.
With a gentle hiss, the wing-style driver-side door lifted upward, and from within stepped Wang Haoran.
Tall and sharply dressed, his features were striking and effortlessly handsome. His sudden appearance sent ripples through the crowd. Female students who happened to be passing by nearly swooned on the spot, while the male students around them couldn’t help but cast jealous, bitter glances.
Wang Haoran ignored the stares completely. His focus was clear.
Chen Linlin. Junior student. Rich girl.
Those three facts were all he needed. Sparse as the information was, it wouldn’t be hard to find someone like her on this campus. He walked straight toward a group of nearby girls and asked them if they knew Chen Linlin.
Though the three weren’t personally close to her, they immediately recognized the name. In the University, Chen Linlin was something of a local celebrity—a dominant figure known across campus. Even if a student hadn’t met her in person, they’d certainly heard of her.
The girls belonged to the student council, and through one of the senior girls from the third year, they quickly sent word to inquire about Chen Linlin’s whereabouts.
The reply came soon.
The senior girl who helped track her down offered to guide Wang Haoran to the building. Once they reached the entrance, she told him to wait there, offering to go inside and call Chen Linlin out herself.
Climbing the stairs, she made her way to the third floor and stopped at a particular dorm room.
Inside, Chen Linlin was in the middle of an Honor of King match, huddled up with a few girls as they played together. All of them were focused on the screen, but the atmosphere was far from pleasant.
“SIster Linlin, someone downstairs is asking for you,” the student council girl said cautiously, her tone laced with hesitation.
Chen Linlin had a temper. Everyone knew it. She came from money and carried herself with the kind of arrogant confidence that made her a tyrant even among her classmates. Nobody in the dorm wanted to provoke her, not even the other rich kids.
At that moment, Chen Linlin looked absolutely pissed. Her face was taut with frustration as she stared at her phone. Her character—Sun Shangxiang—had already fed the enemy more times than anyone could count. Despite four other girls trying to protect her, it wasn’t doing any good.
Not that it was their fault. Chen Linlin was just flat-out terrible at the game. She was one of those players who insisted on picking a marksman role even when she clearly couldn’t handle it.
With only one class scheduled for the day, her afternoon was wide open. Rather than heading back to her family’s luxury estate, she decided on a whim to hang out in a friend’s dorm and drag a few girls into gaming with her.
“Who’s looking for me?” she asked while her game counted down her character’s respawn timer.
“A guy. Drove here in a Pagani,” the girl whispered.
Chen Linlin blinked, mildly impressed. “Pagani? Huh. So he’s rich.” Then she scoffed. “So what? He thinks a Pagani’s impressive? I’ve got a pink LaFerrari sitting at home. Global limited edition.”
Just then, her character respawned. Her attention snapped back to the game screen.
The student council girl hesitated. “Sister Linlin, the guy’s really handsome. Don’t you want to go take a look?”
“I don’t care how handsome he is. I’m in the middle of a game. Just tell him I’m busy. Let him go cool off somewhere else. Freaking annoying.”
Her fingers mashed the screen, trying to make a comeback, but it was hopeless. The moment her character stepped out of the base, an invisible Lanling King ambushed and deleted her. She let out a loud groan of irritation.
The other girl tried again. “Sister Linlin, I don’t think he’s from our school. He came all this way just to see you. He probably likes you and wants to chase after you. Shouldn’t you at least meet him once?”
“Chase me? Please. What he really wants is to sleep with me,” Chen Linlin sneered, not even trying to lower her voice. “Guys are all the same. I’ve seen through them a long time ago.”
She had never dated anyone, but she wasn’t naive. To her, all that talk about love and romance was just bullshit. Boys who pursued girls only ever had one goal in mind.
She hated men. Never entertained a single romantic advance. Didn’t matter how good-looking they were—none of them were worth her time. The very idea of dating repulsed her. Because dating always ended the same way—with her being…
The girl who had come to fetch her sensed that pushing any further would be a bad idea. Chen Linlin’s patience was already wearing thin, and pressing her now might trigger a full-blown tantrum.
So she left the dorm quietly and returned to the entrance downstairs.
“She said she was busy and won’t be coming down,” she told Wang Haoran with a regretful look.
Wang Haoran frowned.
He hadn’t come all this way to turn back empty-handed.
“Go back and tell her I’ll wait ten more minutes,” he said, his voice calm but carrying a clear edge. “If she still doesn’t come down, I’ll go upstairs and drag her out myself.”
“Are you serious?” The girl blinked, startled.
“I’m serious,” he replied without hesitation. “Please pass my exact words to her.”
“What’s your name, handsome?”
She couldn’t help but ask. Judging from the way he spoke, it sounded like he and Chen Linlin might already know each other. If she gave a name, maybe Sister Linlin would be more willing to listen.
Wang Haoran paused for a moment. They didn’t actually know each other, so telling her probably wouldn’t make much of a difference—but there was no reason to hide it either.
“Wang Haoran.”
The girl gave a nod and made her way back into the dorm building, heading straight for the room on the third floor.
“Sister Linlin, the guy downstairs said his name is Wang Haoran. Do you know him?” she asked gently.
“Wang Haoran? What a tacky name,” Chen Linlin blurted without thinking. But then something clicked. She lifted her eyes and asked, “Wait. Did you say he drove a Pagani?”
“Yes. He drove a Pagani,” the girl confirmed.
Chen Linlin let out a cold snort.
She remembered now. When she spoke with her father earlier, he mentioned the Wang family.
The guy waiting downstairs had to be the same Rich Second Gen who was trying to stand up for Gu Yurou.
So… he couldn’t get his father to settle things for him, and now he came here personally to confront her?
What, did he think she’d be easy to push around? If so, then he was in for a rude awakening.
“Did he say anything else?” she asked.
The girl hesitated. Something about Chen Linlin’s tone made her uneasy, but she still managed to answer, “He said he’d wait ten more minutes. If you don’t come down, he’ll come upstairs and drag you out.”
“How many people did he bring?” Chen Linlin asked, her expression suddenly serious.
“Just himself,” the girl replied.
“One person?” Chen Linlin couldn’t help but laugh. “He came alone and dares to act so arrogantly?”
She glanced at the scoreboard—zero kills, nine deaths, zero assists—and lost the will to keep playing.
At this point, continuing would just mean more deaths and watching her base explode.
With a huff, she surrendered the match and stood up.
As someone used to getting her way, Chen Linlin didn’t walk around alone. She had her own little “team.”
Most of them were from the sports department—tall, strong girls with athletic builds. Frankly, they looked more intimidating than most boys.
If Wang Haoran thought he could just stroll in and threaten her, he was about to learn how very wrong he was.
