Mu Nanzhi was sitting with her back to the private room’s entrance. From where Qin Fan stood, all he could see was a woman with long black hair leaning close to Wang Haoran. He couldn’t see her face, but even without that, it was clear what kind of “interaction” was happening between them.
And just like that, he was hit with a heavy wave of awkwardness.
He was already thirty, and up until now he had lived like a craftsman—hands clean, heart clean, not even giving away his first kiss. To walk in on a scene like this? It hit him hard. His mind blanked, and for a second, he almost forgot how to react.
It was like someone shoved a handful of dog food straight into his mouth. And it tasted awful.
He instantly regretted not knocking. Just one knock, and he could’ve avoided this. But now? Too late.
A wave of sourness rose up in his chest. This future brother-in-law of his really had skills. They only met during dinner and already made it this far? Damn.
But that feeling barely lasted a few seconds before it faded. A woman who was this easy to get into bed probably wasn’t all that reserved. What was there to envy?
He thought to himself, if he didn’t have standards, women like that would be lining up for him.
That thought made him feel a little better. Still, weren’t these two getting a bit too into it? Seriously, did they forget someone else was standing there?
Qin Fan stood by the door, watching them shamelessly being intimate with each other. The noise from him opening the door clearly reached Mu Nanzhi’s ears. She knew someone had entered, but she had no time to react.
It all happened so fast that her body froze up, leaving her no choice but to go along with it.
Out of instinct and pride as a woman, she wanted to push Wang Haoran away, but her body didn’t respond. Her arms felt weak, her mind was blank, and her whole body tingled with a strange, unfamiliar sensation. She had never felt something like this before.
Wang Haoran, of course, was doing it on purpose. He knew Qin Fan had walked in, but he pretended to be completely caught up in the heat of the moment, ignoring him altogether.
Qin Fan stood there calmly after collecting himself, just watching, waiting for the two to finally notice him and knock it off.
But they didn’t. They just kept going like he wasn’t even there.
He was seriously about to turn around and leave, but curiosity kept him rooted in place. He wanted to see who this woman was that his future brother-in-law was getting so friendly with.
He cleared his throat loudly on purpose.
“Cough, cough.”
Wang Haoran figured it was about time to play it cool. He froze mid-motion, slowly turned his head, then jolted in fake surprise. His face quickly twisted into an awkward grimace as if he’d just been caught cheating on a test.
“You—when did you get here?!”
“I’ve been watching for a few minutes now,” Qin Fan replied with a grin. “Not bad. That was fast. Already scored a girlfriend?”
Wang Haoran gave a sheepish laugh and pulled out a chair. “Come on, sit down. Let me pour you a drink.”
“Sure.” Qin Fan smiled and took a seat.
He came here today to build a good relationship with his future brother-in-law, and since the kid offered a toast, of course, he’d give him face. Besides, this was one drink he felt fully entitled to enjoy.
Mu Nanzhi still hadn’t turned around, but the moment she heard that voice, her heart dropped as she knew that voice.
Qin Fan.
Of all the people to catch her in this position… why him?
She already wanted to bury herself in the ground. Now she wished she could just vanish completely.
She heard Qin Fan approaching, the floor creaking under his feet as he took his seat. Her head dipped lower, and she covered her face with her hands like a child playing hide-and-seek.
Wang Haoran poured a fresh glass of wine and placed it gently in front of Qin Fan. Then he refilled his own cup and raised it with a grin.
“Come on.”
Qin Fan mirrored his smile and clinked glasses with him. Then both men tilted back their cups and downed the drink in one go.
Wang Haoran was drinking out of sheer excitement.
Qin Fan was drinking to keep the peace.
After the glass hit the table, Qin Fan glanced at the woman still hiding her face beside him and chuckled.
“Your girlfriend’s really shy, huh?”
He said it with a smile, but inside, he was already rolling his eyes. Just minutes ago, she was so bold, like no one was watching, and now she was too shy to show her face?
Give me a break.
He figured she was just acting. Probably putting on a show for Wang Haoran. After all, the kid was still young. A fresh-faced boy like him would fall hard for a girl who acted all bashful and innocent.
And sure enough, Wang Haoran laughed and nodded. “Yeah, she’s super shy.”
Then he looked at Mu Nanzhi and said, “Come on, this is my friend. Let me introduce you. What are you hiding your face for? Put your hands down.”
Mu Nanzhi could only sigh inside. She didn’t want to, but she slowly lowered her hands.
Qin Fan leaned slightly to get a better look. He was curious now. If this woman was really so easy, was she at least good-looking?
The hands dropped.
And the face that appeared…
His heart skipped a beat, and his smile disappeared completely.
It was her.
A face he knew all too well.
Mu Nanzhi gave him an awkward smile and greeted him in a small voice. “Master… what a coincidence.”
Qin Fan’s face twisted as ai someone stuffed him with raw lemons.
“Mu Nanzhi?! You?!”
Shock, disbelief, embarrassment, and sourness all mashed together on his face like a broken palette.
Wang Haoran watched his expression carefully, then laughed inside while pretending to be surprised. “Wait… you two know each other?”
“She’s my master,” Mu Nanzhi said quickly. “He taught me geomancy and numerology.”
Wang Haoran’s brows shot up. “Damn, small world. That’s actually kind of crazy.”
Then he threw another grenade casually, as if he didn’t know exactly what he was doing.
“Actually, if it weren’t for your master, we wouldn’t even be together.”
Mu Nanzhi blinked. “What do you mean?”
“Your master read my fortune. Said my fate was turning, that I’d meet the love of my life by the riverside. So I went to Muwang Pavilion… and that’s where I met you.”
His tone was light and casual, but to Qin Fan, every word hit like a punch to the gut.

Mu Nanzhi was a little surprised herself. She turned to look at Qin Fan, hesitated, then picked up the half-full glass of red wine in front of her and raised it seriously.
“Master… let me toast you too.”
Qin Fan’s face scrunched up like he just swallowed a bitter melon whole.
