Qin Fan felt bitter as hell.

If this future brother-in-law of his had snagged just any stunning beauty, maybe it wouldn’t have stung so much. But the key issue here was—it was one of the female disciples he actually liked.

He knew Mu Nanzhi well enough to understand she wasn’t the type to fool around. She probably hadn’t even dated before, and everything that should be there was still untouched. Now, all of that would be taken by his future brother-in-law in one go.

Jealousy and frustration swirled inside him.

But then again, he couldn’t help but question her taste. She was someone who mastered the profound art of geomancy, someone even the elite of the imperial capital respected. And yet, she fell for a rich second gen? It wasn’t like she needed money, so what the hell did she see in him? Looking at his future brother-in-law, aside from that pretty face, there really wasn’t much worth mentioning.

Women who go for looks… are honestly shallow creatures.

Qin Fan couldn’t help but curse in silence. He had so many skills under his belt—the only shortcoming was that his face was just average.

“Master?” Mu Nanzhi’s voice pulled him out of his daze, sounding slightly puzzled.

Snapping back to reality, Qin Fan forced a strained smile. He clinked glasses with Mu Nanzhi and took a small sip of red wine.

Still, at least there was one silver lining. Since Wang Haoran landed a beauty, he’ll probably be extra grateful. That meant he’d be even more motivated to help him plead with his sister, Tantai Yaoyue. If that works out, maybe this awkward situation would be worth it after all.

Mu Nanzhi wasn’t a big drinker, but she was happy tonight. She took a big sip and ended up choking a little, coughing softly.

Wang Haoran pulled a napkin from the table and gently wiped the wine from the corner of her lips. “Slow down,” he said with a warm gaze, and then teasingly tapped her nose.

Her cheeks turned rosy. It was hard to tell if it was the wine or something else entirely.

Qin Fan couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up abruptly and said, “I’ve got something to do. I’ll head off first.” Without waiting for a reply, he turned around and left, a look of disappointment on his face as he walked back to Ma Hongsheng’s private room.

Wang Haoran casually checked the series of system messages he just received, and immediately felt satisfied. Judging by Qin Fan’s reaction, the guy was clearly bitter as hell but didn’t show any signs of hatred. Everything was going exactly as planned.

Once Qin Fan left, the couple finished their dinner without interruption. Afterward, Wang Haoran chatted with Mu Nanzhi for a bit and then drove her back to Jinhao Hotel. The whole ride, he didn’t try anything or cross any lines.

Because of what happened earlier, Mu Nanzhi was a little on edge. But Wang Haoran’s respectful distance put her at ease. When they said their goodbyes, she looked genuinely happy as she headed back to her room.

“I thought you weren’t coming back tonight,” Bian Suwen teased as she opened the door for Mu Nanzhi.

“What nonsense are you imagining? We only just met today,” Mu Nanzhi scolded lightly, her voice tinged with shyness.

“You’re in a good mood, though, so things must’ve gone well. Come on, spill it. What’s the situation?” Bian Suwen’s gossip radar was on full blast.

Mu Nanzhi got a little embarrassed but gave a vague reply. “We’re… officially dating now.”

“You just met today and are already dating? That’s fast,” Bian Suwen looked surprised.

Mu Nanzhi looked a bit flustered. “I didn’t mean for it to happen so quickly, but I was scared that if I turned him down, I might miss my chance… so…”

“Alright, I’m not teasing you anymore. I’m actually really happy for you,” Bian Suwen dropped the playful tone and smiled sincerely.

“So, when are you bringing your boyfriend out to meet us?” Mu Nanzhi asked casually, remembering their previous conversation.

“No rush,” Bian Suwen’s expression turned serious. “We’ve got more important things to deal with.”

Mu Nanzhi’s heart skipped. “You mean… there’s news on Shao Wanwan?”

“Yeah,” Bian Suwen nodded. “I’ve confirmed that she’s using a fake identity and enrolled in the graduate program at Qingling University. Not sure what she’s up to… but that’s not important. What matters is, she’s all alone, out in the open, while we’re in the shadows. This is the perfect chance.”

“You’re confident we can take her down?” Mu Nanzhi asked, a little uneasy. She was afraid that if they messed up and alerted Shao Wanwan, she might snap and leak that video.

If that happened, it would be a disaster. She could live with a damaged reputation, but if it cost her this new relationship, she wouldn’t be able to accept that.

“If we go the righteous route, it’s a toss-up,” Bian Suwen replied, confidence in her eyes. “But if we play dirty, I’m a hundred percent sure. And I’m not alone—I’ve got backup.”

“Good,” Mu Nanzhi finally relaxed.

The two continued discussing the details of their plan to deal with Shao Wanwan.

Meanwhile, Shao Wanwan was completely unaware she was already a target.

Following her ancestor’s orders, she was still playing the part of a graduate student, living a quiet and repetitive campus life while secretly monitoring Gu Yurou’s every move.

Before long, another day came and went.

After her evening class, Shao Wanwan walked along a dim, narrow path near the campus on her way back to her rented apartment. The moonlight barely lit the road, and there weren’t any streetlamps. Normally, no girl dared to walk this way at night.

But Shao Wanwan was no ordinary girl. She had skills. Even when a few thugs tried to stop her here once, she wasn’t the one who suffered. Those idiots got more than they bargained for. A few flirtatious lines from them had cost them thirty years of their lives.

Like always, she took the shortcut.

But as she walked, she suddenly felt like someone was behind her.

Whipping around, she scanned the path.

Nothing.

Must’ve been her nerves.

She didn’t think much of it and kept walking.

Then a faint whooshing sound sliced through the air.

She shifted her body slightly, and a silver needle gleaming with moonlight shot past her cheek and stabbed into a nearby tree.

Shao Wanwan’s gaze snapped toward the direction the needle came from.

From the shadows, Bian Suwen slowly stepped forward.

“A divine doctor resorting to sneak attacks from behind? That’s a little cheap, isn’t it? And your sneak attack was pretty sloppy, too,” Shao Wanwan said with a mocking smile, clearly proud of how easily she dodged it.

Bian Suwen just smiled without saying a word.

That smile made Shao Wanwan uneasy. She instinctively turned, ready to leave.

But the moment she lifted her foot, she felt a tap on her back.

A burst of Internal Energy surged into her body, which sealed her acupoints.

She couldn’t move.

Her expression changed instantly.

“Who said I came alone?” Bian Suwen’s voice was soft, but her words sent a chill straight through Shao Wanwan’s bones.
