Chapter 110: Chapter 110
Lysander’s pov
Tears spilled over my lower lashes, trailing down my flushed cheeks as I stared down at my mother.
Seeing her like this, completely broken, stripped of her haughty pride, on her knees in the middle of a VIP room sobbing for my forgiveness tore through my heart.
I loved her. Despite the years of quiet distance, despite the painful silence, I had always loved my mom. The terrifying thought that she would reject me for who I was had lived like an icy lump in my chest for so long.
I thought I would be left alone because of my sexuality and I dreaded the day she would know.
Looking at her now, I had a realization that I couldn’t blame her for what Darius and Gideon had done.
She hadn’t known. She was just another pawn in a house full of monsters, wrapped up in her own naive desire for a normal life while two predators operated in the dark. But she was here now. She accepted me. She was ready to throw away everything she had built with Darius just to hold onto me.
My chest hitched with a wet sob.
"Mommy..." I choked out, the old childhood word slipping past my lips before I could stop it.
My mother gasped. She pushed herself up from the carpet and threw her arms around my neck, pulling me down into a fierce, desperate embrace that knocked the breath right out of my lungs. She held me so tightly her whole body trembled against mine, burying her face into the crook of my neck, her hot tears soaking into the fabric of my sweater.
"My sweet boy..." she sobbed into my hair, her voice breaking over and over. "My sweet, sweet boy... I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry..."
I wrapped my arms around her back, burying my face into her shoulder, letting years of buried pain dissolve into the quiet room. We stayed locked in that embrace for a long time, the heavy weight of our past slowly unraveling into the soft hum of the club.
A low, deep voice cut through the quiet.
"I will leave you two alone for a short moment," Drake murmured from the shadows near the door.
Panic flared in my chest, the thought of Drake moving away from sent a spike of distress straight down my spine. I needed him as close as possible.
I was safe with my mother but I needed him.
"Drake—" I gasped, turning my head quickly.
He caught my gaze, his dark red eyes softening with a reassuring warmth. "I’m only stepping right outside the door, little bird," he promised softly, "Take your time."
He gave my mother a brief, respectful nod and slipped quietly out of the VIP suite, the heavy oak door clicking shut behind him.
My mother pulled back slightly, wiping her wet cheeks with the back of her designer sleeves, her eyes following the closed door with a bewildered frown.
"What is up with that man?" she asked, smoothing down her windblown hair as she took a shaky breath. "He’s... so intense. The way he looks at you... the way he stands. It’s overwhelming."
A small, nervous laugh escaped my throat. I rubbed the back of my neck, searching for a good, gentle way to break the news to her. How did you tell your human mother that your new partner wasn’t just a powerful man, but an ancient creature of the night?
I decided to just say it out loud.
"He’s a vampire, Mom," I said directly, watching her face.
My mother blinked. Then a faint, watery laugh bubbled up from her chest. "Right. Yes, of course, sweetie. And monsters under the bed exist too."
"No, Mom," I said, my voice dropping into a serious, steady tone as I looked her straight in the eyes. "I’m not joking. Drake is really a vampire. He’s the one who’s been protecting me from Darius all this time. We’re mated."
She stopped laughing. The smile faded from her lips as she searched my face for any sign of a joke. "Lysander..."
"And just... the day before yesterday," I added softly, taking a quiet breath, "he killed Gideon."
I braced myself. I clamped my teeth together, fully expecting her to scream, to faint, or to completely lose her mind at the horror of it all.
Instead, my mother’s eyes went wide. She froze for two seconds and then a sudden, bitter laugh burst out of her mouth.
"Good," she spat, wiping a stray tear from her eye with a sharp flick of her wrist. "Good! That boy was pure evil. He deserves every bit of the end he got. I don’t care what he was to Darius, he was a monster."
She paused, taking a breath, her brow furrowing slightly as she looked back toward the closed door. "I guess... I haven’t really thanked your boyfriend properly for taking care of my boy."
"Well, you can," I said quietly, a faint flush creeping up my neck. "Because... we’re sort of married now."
My mother’s jaw dropped completely. "What?! Really?! Lysander, why? What happened?!"
"It’s complicated, Mom," I said, stepping closer and taking both of her cold hands in mine. "There were rituals, and blood bonds, and... things had to happen to keep me safe. But I need you to understand that I didn’t make this decision lightly. I chose what was best for me. And so far... Drake has treated me like I’m the only thing that matters in the world. He makes me feel safe. I just wanted to tell you so you don’t worry. I’m okay."
Fresh tears welled up in her eyes, but this time they were quiet, heavy, and resigned. She looked at our joined hands, her shoulders slumping as she let out a long, shaky sigh.
"Okay..." she whispered, squeezing my fingers tight. "Fine. If you truly believe this is what’s best for you... if he makes you feel safe, then it’s fine. It’s good."
She looked up into my face, her expression turning fierce with a sudden, protective maternal authority.
"But there is one more thing, Lysander," she said firmly, her voice leaving no room for argument. "You have to go back to school."
I blinked. "Mom—"
"No, listen to me," she insisted, stepping into my space. "It was always my dream for you to graduate, to get your degree in fine arts, to become a better man, and to stand on your own two feet. Please... do not let this marriage or this strange new world ruin your future. Promise me you won’t give up on your dreams."
A soft, genuine smile finally touched my lips. The knot of anxiety in my chest completely dissolved.
"I promise, Mom," I said softly, nodding my head. "Once everything with Darius is completely settled, I’ll resume my classes."
"Thank God," she breathed.
I leaned forward and pulled her into another warm, quiet hug, resting my chin on her shoulder. "I miss you, Mommy."
"I miss you too, my sweet boy," she whispered into my ear, patting my back gently.
The heavy oak door swung open silently.
Drake stepped back into the VIP suite, his tall, dark figure bathed in the crimson ambient light. His red eyes scanned the room instantly, taking in the calm atmosphere before settling on me with a quiet, inquiring look.
The moment he appeared, my mother gently pulled away from me. She wiped her cheeks one last time, smoothed down her coat, and turned toward him.
Without a single moment of hesitation, she walked straight up a scowling Drake.
Drake stilled, his eyes widening slightly in rare surprise as my mother reached out, wrapping her arms around his waist and pulling him into a tight, genuine hug.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion as she pressed her cheek briefly against his chest. "Thank you for taking care of my son."
Drake stood frozen for half a second before his posture softened completely. He brought his broad, dark-clad arms around her shoulders, offering a gentle, protective embrace in return.
