Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Lysander’s pov

The second she turned around and saw me, her eyes widened, and she dropped her dish towel onto the counter.

She rushed across the room and pulled me into a tight, suffocating hug, smothering my face against her shoulder.

She pulled back, her hands cupping my face as she inspected my pale features with intense scrutiny.

"Oh, my sweet boy! You look so exhausted, darling! I knew we were right to come back from the resort early."

"There was no need for you to stay overnight on campus, you look like you’re practically wasting away!"

"I’ve just been really busy with school, Mom," I lied softly, pasting a faint, reassuring smile on my face.

"School is important, dear, but your health is infinitely more vital! You are far too delicate to be pushing yourself like this."

Elena turned her sharp, anxious gaze toward her husband. "Thank you for bringing my sweet boy home."

"I am fine, mom." I groaned.

She mellowed visibly, her shoulders relaxing as she scrutinized my face one last time.

Satisfied, she leaned in and pressed a warm, lingering kiss to my forehead before floating back over to the counter.

Soon, with our combined efforts, we laid out the dishes and set the formal dining table.

I sat down, picking at my food silently while listening to my mother converse animatedly with Darius.

She kept checking on my plate, making sure I was eating enough, which made my heart ache with a strange warmth.

"How was the rest of your trip?" I asked finally, trying to hide how physically sore I felt sitting in the chair.

She brightened instantly, resting her chin on her hands. "Oh, it was spectacular, darling! The resort was pure paradise."

"The community was so hospitable and kind. You would absolutely adore visiting there, Lysander."

"We could all go together during the upcoming semester break," Darius offered smoothly, neatly cutting into his steak.

"Sure," I mumbled, offering a soft smile. "That sounds really nice."

My mom then shot Darius a playful, scolding look. "That’s if you manage to keep your attention off work next time, Darius."

"You barely spent any time with me at the spa because you were on your phone."

I winced sympathetically, Darius definitely had some groveling to do.

"I am so sorry, my love," Darius said repentantly, dropping his cutlery. "I promise I will do much better next time."

She hummed a dubious, teasing sound. "If you say so, dear."

"I do say so. And..." Darius reached into his inner suit pocket, pulling out a small velvet jeweler’s box."I hope this little gift helps convince you of my absolute sincerity."

She accepted the box flippantly, but the second she flipped open the latch, her lips parted in a surprised, breathless gasp.

Gingerly, she pulled out a sparkling, diamond-encrusted bracelet that shimmered brilliantly beneath the warm glow of the chandelier.

"Oh, Darius..." she breathed out dreamily, her eyes shining with delight. "It’s breathtaking, darling! Thank you!"

"Anything for my queen," Darius replied dotingly, leaning over to kiss the back of her hand.

I watched my mother sigh happily over the bracelet as he helped her clasp it around her wrist.

Even though I instinctively cringed at the overly romantic display. My mother deserved the absolute world, and it was evident Darius was more than willing to give it to her.

Darius then turned his attention to me, offering a warm smile. "Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you, Lysander."

He reached into the same pocket and pulled out a slim, rectangular velvet case, sliding it across the tablecloth to me. "Open it."

I carefully lifted the lid, and my breath caught in my throat.

Inside lay an exquisite silver chain carrying an elaborate, antique pendant studded with deep blue sapphires that shimmered in the light.

I gaped at the piece, completely at a loss for words. "I... Darius, it’s incredible. It’s so beautiful."

"Your mother saw it in the boutique and insisted it would match your eyes," Darius’s smile widened. "I guess she was right."

"Of course I was right!" Elena beamed, her eyes softening as she looked at me with pure adoration. "Wasn’t I, sweet boy?"

I glanced up at my mom, my throat tightening with a sudden wave of heavy emotion. "Yes, Mom. It’s lovely. Thank you so much."

"No, thank you, darling," Elena’s voice turned incredibly tender."I know things have been difficult with the move and adjusting after the divorce from your father."

"You’ve never once complained, but I know how much you’ve carried. Thank you for being so strong through it all, my sweet boy. I love you so much."

My eyes stung with fresh tears. "You really mean that? You’ll always love me no matter what happens?"

"Always and forever," she promised without a second of hesitation.

Wiping a stray tear from my cheek, I murmured waterily, "I love you both so much too."

I lingered in the kitchen for a while after dinner, chatting with my mom while Darius cleared the table and did the dishes.

I stayed close to them for as long as I physically could before my eyelids grew far too heavy to keep open.

"I think I’m going to head upstairs to sleep," I announced, rising from the tall stool in front of the counter.

"Goodnight, my sweet boy," Elena said, giving my hand a loving squeeze. "I’ll bring up some warm tea in a bit!"

"Don’t forget to take pain relief," Darius called out after wishing me a good night.

Murmuring a quiet reply, I swallowed the medicine with a glass of ice water before leaving the warm kitchen.

When I reached my bedroom, I locked the door and reflexively stripped off my clothes, ready to take a hot shower.

I regretted it the exact second I caught sight of my reflection in the full-length mirror against the wall.

A cold wave of revulsion washed over me, my entire body was covered in horrific bruises.

Vesper had been completely right when he said I looked like I’d been brutally fucked by a bear.

Finger-shaped bruises, dark red hickeys, and swollen marks littered almost every single inch of my fair skin.

I looked like exactly what I felt like on the inside: a cheap, broken toy.

The female doctor at the clinic earlier hadn’t been able to hide her alarm when she first examined my body.

She had tried to maintain her professional mask, but there was no hiding the absolute horror on her face.

Mortified beyond belief, I had practically begged her on my knees not to say anything to Darius or my mother.

She had reluctantly agreed, as an adult, she couldn’t violate patient-doctor confidentiality without risking her license.

Darius hadn’t pressed me on the physical injuries either. I was sure he knew, but he didn’t pry, and I was immensely grateful for his restraint.

Still, every mark on my skin was a physical testament to Drake and Gideon’s sheer brutality.

My entire body was still sore, aching deeply from how roughly and carelessly it had been used.

I wiped fresh tears from my eyes, staring at my reflection until the image blurred into a watery mess.

I turned away from the glass before I gave in to the violent urge to punch the mirror until it shattered into pieces.

I desperately needed to talk to someone, someone who wouldn’t judge me, someone who would hold space for me to break down and weep.

I thought about streaming, but fear instantly paralyzed me.

For all I knew, Drake or Gideon were already monitoring my online activity.

If they saw me go live, they would somehow leak the news straight to my parents, and my life would be ruined forever.

My regular viewers wouldn’t even offer genuine comfort anyway.

Some would wonder why I was suddenly live after announcing I was quitting, assuming I only did it to chase clout.

The more toxic users would openly mock me for whining about getting dicked down by two hot guys.

After all, they’d sneer, I had no problem doing lewd stuff online and using toys, so why was I crying over getting fucked in the flesh?

They would call me a promiscuous, dramatic whore... and deep down, I feared they might be right.

In the end, none of it mattered, I couldn’t risk going live under any circumstances.

Gideon and Drake would definitely see it, and they would take sick pleasure in watching me sob on camera.

I couldn’t bear to imagine the smug, triumphant expression Gideon would wear if he caught me crying over him.

Disappearing into the master bath, I took a hasty, silent shower, avoiding looking down at my body.

Afterward, I slipped straight beneath the silk duvet completely naked, far too raw and sore to tolerate the touch of fabric against my skin.

Burying my face into the cold pillow, I closed my eyes and let the dark, heavy exhaustion finally drag me under.
