Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Lysander’s pov

I stared at them for a second and it dawned on me that they will never accept me as one of them, I will always be the one looking over from the outside.

The one people who were supposed to teach me things I might have missed were my enemies, well not enemies for real.

I would know.

"I get it, I won’t bother you guys again."

Corey started to say something but I turned my back on them and headed back. My mood went from a hundred to zero.

I headed back to the room and opened the door.

"Where were you?"

"Ahh!" I let out a scream and flinched.

My hand went to my chest to curb the erratic beating of my heart. "You scared the crap out of me."

Drake was seated in a chair with his shirt unbuttoned. He held a crystal tumbler in his right hand, his eyes fixed on my face.

"I went for a walk to clear my head and found myself at the lower fountain," I rasped. I walked toward the bed, "I stumbled on Corey and Clara again."

He raised a brow, "When did you meet them the first time?"

I waved him off, "that was a long time ago but they were not as welcoming considering they are humans like me. Clara was..."

I shook my head, unable to go on.

Drake set his glass on the stone and leaned back, resting his hands on the arms of the chair. "And what did Clara have to say?"

"I don’t even want to say."

"Little bird..." he warned.

"She said your venom replaces the mind," the world tumbled out of my mouth. said, I looked down at my hands. "She said if you leave me alone for a week, my pulse will drag until I can’t lift my head from the pillow. She also called it a cage."

I lifted my head, looking across the dim space between us. "Is it?"

Drake stood up and suddenly, the temperature in the room dropped. I expected him to shake me till my senses kicked in.

But he sat beside me on the mattress, his long fingers catching my chin, lifting my face toward him.

"Clara speaks from the perspective of a pet whose master keeps her on a chain of convenience," he murmured, his thumb smoothing over the high ridge of my cheekbone. "Her bond is weak, frayed, and built entirely on dominance. She cannot survive without her master but you on the other hand?"

"What about me?"

"What I offer you tomorrow night is not a leash, Little bird. It is an anchor."

He leaned in closer, "Yes, your body will crave my blood above all else. Yes, your heart will beat when I am not close to you but this, it grants you immunity under ancient law. You will be my mate, an extension of my house, my estate, and my power."

My chest heaved, a sudden, desperate tightness coiling in my throat. The taste of the blood he had given me earlier was fading, leaving my nerves raw and exposed. My hands reached up and held his wrist.

"Can I have a little more tonight?" I whispered greedily, my needy voice was completely devoid of pride. "Please? Before tomorrow."

A smile touched the corners of his thin lips. He lifted his left hand, dragging his thumb hard across his hand and held it out to me once the blood started welling up.

I leaned forward, wrapping my hands around his wrist, and pressed my mouth directly over the cut.

Drake’s free hand slid around the back of my neck, his long fingers threading through my l hair, cradling my head against his palm while I fed.

"You are insatiable tonight, little bird," he purred softly against my ear, his voice vibrating through my skull.

When I finally pulled back, my chin rested against his knee, my breath coming fast, my lips flushed crimson. The heavy haze of his power settled over my mind, making the room blur into soft streaks of amber and shadow. I looked up at him through the heat, my fingers still clutching his black cuff.

"Are you certain of this, Lysander?" He asked softly, his thumb wiping a stray drop of crimson from the corner of my mouth. "Once the exchange is completed tomorrow, there will be no turning back. Your life, your blood, and your breath will belong to me until the end of your days."

I tightened my grip on his wrist, pulling his cold palm firmer against my cheek, feeling the steady, heavy pulse running beneath his skin.

"I have spent my entire life being owned by men who hated me, Drake," I whispered, I tilted my head back, looking straight into his dark, fathomless eyes.

"You look at me and call me your mate," I said, my raspy voice steady in the quiet room. "I don’t want a life outside your shadow. I don’t want freedom if it means walking away from this room. I am sure. I want to be yours forever."

His eyes flared with desire before he leaned down and pressed his lips against mine. He pulled my frame off the edge of the mattress, wrapping his long arms around my waist, burying me flush against his cold chest.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, my fingers digging into his dark hair, anchoring myself to him.

I opened my mouth eagerly, taking in his tongue as it entwined with mine.

The taste of the blood and lips drove me insane till I was rocking my lips slowly to his thigh. He chuckled slightly and pulled away.

"I won’t be fucking you tonight, you need all the rest you can get."

I pouted, "But..."

He shushed me, placing a finger on my lips to stop my complaints.

"Rest tonight, my brave bird," he whispered against my mouth, his hand smoothing down the length of my back. "Tomorrow night, the world will bow before you and I will make sure you never regret a single second of it."

He shifted on the dark mattress, pulling my weak, heat-flushed body against his side, draping the heavy dark duvet over both of us.

I buried my face into the crook of his neck, wrapping my arm tight around his waist and as the thick mountain fog pressed against the high windows, I closed my eyes and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
