Chapter 84: Chapter 84
Lysander’s pov
The time was finally here.
All the prepping my body had gone through couldn’t prepare me for tonight.
I was dressed in a white flowing dress, Drake said it was customary for the ceremony. My body was numb from the anxiety that clouded my mind.
I stood in front of the mirror staring at my reflection, I had bags under my eye like I haven’t slept for months.
I was just hungry, the lack of blood made me look like Casper the ghost.
I looked up just as a knock came to the door, the door opened and the last person I expected to see peeked through the door.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
My eyes widened with shock, "Clara?"
She gave me a shy smile, "In the flesh."
"What are you doing here?" I folded my arms, I haven’t forgotten how she treated me the last time, or even the other time.
She stepped into the room, raising her hand in surrender, "I know I am the last person you expected to see but I volunteered to walk you down so you are not alone."
She must have seen the shocked look on my face because she chuckled, "I also came to apologize. You were right, I was taking out my anger on you and you don’t deserve it. You are very lucky to have Drake by your side."
"Thank you," a small smile touched my lips.
She smiled and extended her arm to me, "Come on, let’s go get you mated."
Against my better judgment, I wound my hand around her arm and we set off together. She placed her other hand on my arm when she noticed I was trembling.
"Relax, it will be over before you know it." She assured me.
We got to the hall and the doors opened, I marveled at the splendor that is the decor itself.
Four towering wrought-iron chandeliers hung from the vaulted stone ceiling, casting a harsh, flickering amber glow over the three hundred vampires assembled below the dais.
They stood shoulder to shoulder in silence, their unblinking red eyes all fixed on the raised marble platform at the front of the room.
I stood at the edge of the stairs, my knees trembling so much that it weighed my ankles down.
My chest felt tight, my breath coming in short, shallow gasps through my teeth. The cold, polished black stone collar around my throat felt suffocatingly heavy.
My skin flushed burning hot with a deep, paralyzing shame as I looked at the vast, silent crowd waiting in the shadows.
I was suddenly taken back to the moment Gideon had fucked me in front of those perverted men, treating my body like a cheap spectacle for others to mock.
Panic seized my throat, locking my lungs, a cold sweat broke out across my bare back as the terrifying thought flashed through my mind that this was going to be the exact same violation.
I didn’t want a repeat of that.
"Drake..." I rasped out, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I clutched at the seams of my dress.
Drake stood at the center of the dais beside an ancient stone altar draped in red linens. He looked imposing, a towering figure in a long black embroidered tunic with silver thread down the lapels, his dark eyes glowing.
He turned his head slightly, his gaze catching mine across the distance.
He didn’t speak, but he reached out one long, pale hand, his fingers extending toward me.
I took a slow, trembling step forward. Every pair of eyes in the hall tracked my movement. I heard the faint, amused rustle of silk as a female lord in the front row leaned in to whisper to her companion, her cold smile making my stomach twist into a hard knot.
I kept my head bowed, my face burning, staring fixedly at the polished slate floorboards beneath my legs until I reached the center of the platform.
A vampire stepped forward from the shadows behind the altar, holding a paper.
"Lords and Ladies of the night," he bellowed out. "We gather under the Moon to witness the joining of an immortal to his beloved mate bound by blood."
The vampire turned his milky, unblinking eyes toward me.
"Step forward, human," he rasped, the command echoing off the high rafters. "And swear the Vow of Submission before the Elders."
Right, the submission vow that I have been made to recite all through the fast.
My throat locked up completely. I looked up at Drake, my eyes wide and bright with terror, my hands clutching so tightly at the fabric of my dress that my knuckles turned white.
Drake stepped closer. He reached out, his cool fingers catching my chin, lifting my face toward his.
"Speak the words, little bird," he murmured softly, his thumb smoothing over the trembling line of my lower lip, "Let them hear exactly who you belong to."
I swallowed hard, forcing the stagnant air out of my lungs, my voice shaking as I spoke. "I... I swear..."
"Louder," The vampire commanded from the altar.
I pressed my chin against the cold edge of the heavy collar, lifting my voice so it is louder.
"I swear to yield my body, my blood, and my will to Lord Balthazar. I swear to obey his commands without hesitation, to serve his house without condition, and to remain in his shadow until my final breath."
A low, collective murmur rippled across the assembly of vampires as the vow satisfied them.
"The vow is spoken," the vampire declared, stepping back into the shadows. "Now let the blood seal the vein."
Drake caught the front of my dress with one hand and tore it right down the center.
The fabric filled with a loud sound. My bare chest and stomach were instantly exposed to the freezing air of the hall and to the hundreds of predatory eyes watching from the floor below.
A hot wave of mortification rushed straight to my face. I covered my chest with my arms on pure instinct, shrinking back, my eyes brimming with tears as I stared on helplessly.
"Drake, please..." I whispered, my voice cracking, my small frame shivering violently against the cold air. "Not... not like this... not in front of them..."
Of all the warnings I had been given, I still did not prepare myself for this part. Being taken in front of all these people.
Drake caught both of my wrists in one hand, pulling them up over my head, pinning them together in an iron grip.
He backed me forcefully against the altar, his solid, freezing body pressing flush against mine, trapping me completely.
"They need to see, Lysander," Drake purred directly into my ear, "They need to know that every single inch of this skin belongs to me. Let the ghost of the past burn away."
He reached down with his free hand, unbuckling his belt and taking down his pants. No attempt in modesty.
The vampire stepped closer for a better look. I closed my eyes tight, hot tears slipping down my flushed cheeks, my teeth biting down hard on my lower lip to stifle a sob as Drake lifted my hips, aligning his heavy weight against mine.
"Look at me, little bird."
I brought my gaze up to his face, "please..."
"Don’t worry, focus on just me. Eyes on me, Lysander." He said as he drove himself inside me with a brutal thrust.
