Lukas sat down on the bed as Rourke climbed up his leg until he reached his lap, his little body warm against him. He gently stroked the little rat, feeling his soft fur.
"Today it truly begins." His gaze drifted once again to his chest, where his Source pulsed softly.
The previous night, he had created the Source. Now he needed to strengthen it every single day, for years, perhaps for the rest of his life.
He stood up, his movements still slow but filled with purpose. He calmly put on his training clothes, fastened the wooden sword to his waist with a gesture that had become automatic, and washed his face in the small basin beside the window. The cold water drove away the last traces of sleep, refreshing his skin.
When he finished, he looked once more at his four companions, his eyes passing over each of them.
"Let’s go."
As if that single word were a command they all understood perfectly, each of them began to move. Astra took flight, his wings beating softly.
Prata disappeared through the window, her dark form blending into the morning shadows. Tilbo slowly walked behind him, his enormous body moving with surprising grace. Rourke scampered up onto his shoulder, his tiny body balancing with ease.
Together, they left the room, ready for a new day.
...
The aroma of breakfast filled the entire dining room as Lukas walked downstairs, a familiar and comforting scent that welcomed him like an embrace.
Freshly baked bread, still warm from the oven. Creamy scrambled eggs, perfectly seasoned. Herbal tea, its steam rising in delicate spirals.
Aurora was arranging the plates on the table, her movements precise and efficient.
Judite was finishing spreading butter on a slice of bread, the tip of her tongue peeking out between her lips in concentration. Clavor was already seated, his expression as calm as ever, his eyes scanning a small open book resting on the table.
As soon as Lukas entered, Aurora smiled, her eyes lighting up.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Very well." It was the truth. It had been days since he had rested so deeply, since he had awakened with so much energy. All the anxiety that had built up throughout the week had vanished after the formation of the Lunar Source, as if an enormous weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
He quickly took his seat, his body responding with renewed energy.
Aurora watched the two of them curiously, her eyes shifting between father and son.
"Now can you tell me what happened?"
Lukas practically forgot about breakfast, leaving his meal untouched in front of him in his excitement.
"Mom... I managed to create my Mana Source!"
Aurora blinked, her eyes widening.
"You... succeeded?"
"Yes!" Lukas was practically radiating happiness, his smile so wide that it seemed too large for his face.
"It’s still very small... really tiny... but it exists!"
Aurora brought her hands to her mouth, her eyes filling with tears of joy. Her gaze overflowed with pride, with a love so deep that it seemed impossible to contain. She reached across the table and gently stroked her son’s hair, her fingers gliding softly through it.
"Congratulations..." Her voice came out softly, filled with emotion.
"I knew you could do it."
Lukas smiled even more brightly, his heart warmed by his mother’s words.
Judite, who had been quietly watching the conversation with curious eyes, clapped her hands excitedly.
"So now you’re already a warrior?"
Lukas laughed, shaking his head.
"I don’t think so. Not yet."
Before he could say anything else, Clavor spoke, his voice calm but firm.
"You still have a long way to go."
Lukas nodded immediately, his enthusiasm undiminished.
"My Source is tiny. I still can’t strengthen a single muscle."
"Exactly." Clavor rested his arms on the table, his eyes meeting his son’s.
"Most people believe that forming the Source means becoming strong."
He paused briefly, allowing the words to settle.
"They’re wrong."
Lukas paid close attention to every word, his mind absorbing the lesson.
"Forming the Source simply means that now you can finally begin cultivating as a true warrior." Clavor’s voice was steady, carrying the weight of experience.
Aurora listened attentively as well, her eyes shifting between father and son.
"Think of it as a seed." Clavor continued, his tone becoming instructional.
"It already exists. But it still needs to grow, take root, become stronger, and learn how to store mana."
Lukas nodded, understanding perfectly. The night before, he had already imagined something similar. Even so, hearing it spoken aloud made everything feel even clearer, even more real.
At that moment, Judite smiled, a smile filled with pride.
"I’m making progress too."
Everyone looked at her, their faces turning in her direction. A hint of pride showed on her face, her eyes shining brightly.
"Master Thorne said my First Mental Circle is already practically stable."
Lukas smiled, genuinely happy for his sister.
"Really?"
She nodded energetically, her head bobbing with enthusiasm.
"If I keep this up, I’ll be able to form my Second Circle before long."
"Congratulations!" Lukas’ voice was filled with admiration and joy.
The two siblings smiled at one another, sharing a moment of connection that transcended their different journeys. Although they were following completely different paths, they were both growing, both becoming stronger. One would become a great warrior. The other, a great mage.
Aurora watched the scene in silence, her eyes moving across the faces of her children. Her heart felt warm, wrapped in a sense of fulfillment that embraced her like a blanket. Seeing both of her children progressing so quickly, each on their own path, filled her with happiness and pride.
Even Clavor allowed a small smile to appear on his lips, a rare and genuine smile that brightened his face for a brief moment.
...
Shortly after breakfast, father and son headed once again toward the forest. The path leading to the clearing had already become part of their routine, every turn, every tree, every stone as familiar as the walls of his own bedroom.
The grass was still covered with the morning dew, tiny droplets sparkling like diamonds beneath the light of the rising sun. The cool morning air filled their lungs, refreshing and pure.
As soon as they reached the center of the clearing, Clavor drew his wooden sword, its blade gleaming beneath the sunlight.
"Let’s begin."
