That morning’s physical training was even more intense than the previous ones, as though Clavor were testing his son’s limits.
Long runs through the forest, his feet finding the terrain with growing confidence. Jumps over logs and rocks, avoiding obstacles with an agility that had not existed before. Sudden changes of direction, demanding ever faster reflexes.
Lukas ran while holding his sword the entire time, his hand never leaving the hilt. Clavor did not allow him to let go of it, not even during the most difficult jumps.
Then came the strikes. Hundreds of them, repeated until every movement became automatic. Vertical, the blade descending like lightning. Horizontal, slicing through the air in a clean arc. Diagonal, the perfect angle. Thrusts, the tip driving forward in a straight line. Upward strikes, rising from the ground. Circular movements, the wooden blade tracing invisible patterns.
Each sequence had to be repeated until his body responded automatically, without the need for conscious thought. Whenever Lukas made the slightest mistake, even the smallest deviation in his technique, Clavor’s firm voice would immediately remind him.
"Shoulders."
"Hips."
"Balance."
"Breathing."
"Use your legs."
Even after forming the Lunar Source, nothing had changed in that regard. The foundation was still the body, technique, and discipline. Mana was merely the next step, not a shortcut.
Sweat streamed down his face, dripping onto the ground. His arms burned from the endless repetition. His legs trembled, threatening to give way. His heart pounded in his chest, every beat reminding him that he was alive.
Even so, Lukas noticed something different. Whenever his heart raced during training, the little Source in his chest seemed to respond ever so slightly. It still did not release mana, nor did it strengthen his muscles, but it seemed to pulse together with him, as though it too were being trained, as though it too were learning.
That subtle sensation only strengthened his determination, a flame burning brighter with every heartbeat.
When the sun finally reached its highest point in the sky, its brilliant light shining directly over the clearing, Clavor slowly lowered his sword.
"That’s enough."
Lukas breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling rapidly. Sweat ran down his face, soaking his clothes. Even exhausted, he wore a smile, his eyes shining with satisfaction.
Clavor observed his son for a few seconds, silently assessing his condition.
"Now comes the most important part."
Lukas raised an eyebrow, curious.
"Resting?"
"Exactly." The boy looked surprised, his expression filled with confusion.
Clavor smiled faintly, a smile carrying quiet wisdom.
"The Lunar Source doesn’t grow only by absorbing mana. It also needs a peaceful mind and a well-rested body."
He continued, his voice taking on a tone of explanation.
"If you arrive at night with a mentally exhausted mind, it will be much harder to guide mana. An exhausted mind creates barriers that mana cannot pass through."
Lukas understood immediately, a wave of clarity washing over him. It was exactly what had happened during the first week. The more frustrated he became, the harder it seemed to sense mana, as though his own anxiety created a barrier.
"So rest. Play with your companions. Walk through the forest. Observe the animals. Empty your mind."
Clavor sheathed his sword, his movements precise.
"I have a few matters to take care of at the mansion."
He glanced briefly at the sky, judging the sun’s position.
"I’ll return when the moon rises."
Lukas nodded, his thoughts already turning toward the afternoon ahead.
"Alright."
Clavor disappeared among the trees, his footsteps gradually fading until they vanished completely.
As soon as he was gone, Lukas smiled, a smile of freedom. He looked around at the forest, at the sunlight dancing through the leaves. He let out a soft whistle, a sound that had become familiar over the past few weeks.
A few seconds later, Astra descended from the sky, his wings slicing through the air with precision.
Prata emerged from among the branches, her dark form slipping out of the shadows. Tilbo slowly walked over to his side, his enormous presence both imposing and comforting.
Rourke came running through the grass, his little body moving with pure joy.
Lukas simply laughed, a sound that was pure and happy.
That afternoon, there would be no demands, no pressure, no expectations. Only rest, only peace, only the company of his friends.
And when the moon once again illuminated the forest, he would take another small step toward strengthening his newly born Lunar Source.
...
Five days passed before Lukas even realized it.
The routine became so constant that the days themselves seemed to blend into one another.
Every morning began before sunrise. Clavor would be waiting for him in the clearing, and the physical training grew more intense with each passing day.
Long runs through the forest, strikes repeated thousands of times, and exercises for strength, balance, and endurance. His body changed before his eyes. His muscles became denser, his movements more precise and natural, and the wooden sword felt more and more like an extension of his own arm.
But in the afternoons, everything changed.
Following Clavor’s guidance, Lukas no longer trained his body.
He rested his mind.
He spent hours walking through the forest alongside Tilbo, Prata, Astra, and Rourke. Sometimes he simply sat and watched ants working together in perfect organization.
At other times, he merely closed his eyes and listened to the wind passing through the trees while Rourke explored the surroundings under Astra’s watchful gaze.
There were no demands. No anxiety. Only tranquility.
And when the moon finally appeared in the sky...
The true training began.
Sitting in the center of the clearing, Lukas repeated the Lunar Breathing countless times, carefully guiding tiny particles of mana into his own body.
Particle... after particle...
Layer... after layer...
Every night, the tiny crescent moon within his heart became a little clearer.
On the first day, it was still barely larger than a grain of sand. On the second, its outline had already become distinct.
On the third, its pulse matched his heartbeat perfectly.
On the fourth, absorbing mana became much more natural, as though his body had finally accepted that energy as part of itself.
And on the fifth night...
Lukas took one final deep breath.
The mana of the night flowed gently through his body, gathering at the center of his chest.
Then...
The tiny crescent moon was finally completed.
The image within his mind no longer seemed fragile or incomplete. Now it was a perfectly formed moon, small, stable, and radiant, spreading a gentle sensation of coolness throughout his chest.
His Lunar Mana Source... was complete.
Lukas slowly opened his eyes. He placed a hand over his heart.
Unlike the previous days, the Source’s pulse remained steady even without his maintaining constant concentration. It was like a second heart, silent yet alive, storing the mana he had gathered over those five nights.
A smile slowly spread across his lips. He had done it.
The most difficult stage of the foundation was complete.
But that was only the beginning.
Now that he possessed a stable Mana Source, the time had come to take the next step, connecting that energy to every part of his body.
Arms. Legs. Torso. Eyes.
Each part would need to be connected to the Source so that mana could flow freely, strengthening his muscles and increasing his speed, endurance, and power.
Lukas raised his face toward the moon shining above the clearing.
His journey as a true warrior of the Dmond Family was only just beginning. The first foundation had been laid.
From that moment on, he would finally learn how to transform mana... into strength.
