Part of their Quest was to stop the Titan from awakening before the tree died, but the real objective was to stop the Corrupted Titan from awakening.
So as long as they can stop the Titan from awakening, there may still be a chance, a chance to save everything.
The reasoning seemed logical, at least considering that the Main Quest was still available.
"Probably." Seris said.
"And if it wants to become complete, it has to return to the remaining part." Rindo continued.
"Exactly."
Finally, they had something that looked like a path, and if their guess was correct, their destination would be the Giant Graveyard.
Although it was only a guess, it was all they had, it might be wrong, but they had no choice except to check it.
"So maybe we still have a chance." Rindo took a deep breath.
"If we reach it before it releases the remaining part, maybe we can stop it from becoming complete." Cassian said.
"Decision made, we move tomorrow." The Student Council President nodded and then looked at Seris and Aren.
"But you two need to go to the infirmary first."
Seris immediately raised an eyebrow, but Rindo continued before she could object.
"I’m not discussing this, I’ll send every healer who can still stand, we’ll use every remaining medicine and healing tool we have."
Seris said nothing, she knew Rindo was right, if she faced Lian with her current body, the result would be even shorter than last time.
With all the healers using their healing powers on the two of them, her eye and Aren’s two arms had to be fully restored so they could use them again.
For the final battle ahead, a battle that could decide the fate of two worlds, all of them needed to be at their best.
"One will also be treated, by tomorrow we’ll restore as much of his body as possible." Rindo continued, that ant could also be a great help.
Seris only nodded and the meeting seemed to be over, several people were about to leave the room when Seraphina’s voice came.
"If the goal of this mission is to kill Lian, I’m not coming."
Everyone suddenly stopped and looked back at the person who had spoken.
"The first goal is to save him, first we will check whether we can separate the Black Silence from him or not." Rindo frowned and then his tone became heavier.
"If the answer is no... you have to accept that maybe there is no Lian left anymore." He did not want to give false hope.
Seraphina stayed silent for a long time, her eyes moved from Rindo to Seris and then to the floor, as if she was fighting something inside herself and finally let out a sigh.
"Fine, as long as we really try to save him, I’ll help." Then she paused.
"And maybe I have a way to suppress those five Cindari for a while."
Several people looked at her at the same time.
"How?" Rindo asked.
"If the place we are going to really has the Corrupted Titan, maybe it can be done." Seraphina did not answer directly, more exactly, she herself did not seem sure.
"What kind of help?" But the Student Council President seemed doubtful.
"You’ll find out later."
Seris looked at her for several seconds, the same feeling again, Seraphina knew something, but she clearly did not want to say it now.
’Could it be related to the inheritance she received?’ She thought for a moment, no matter how annoying this girl was, she had received a great inheritance.
The inheritance of a being that had managed to defeat and seal the Black Silence disaster once, many years ago.
That was why Seris truly did not underestimate her.
"Okay." Rindo finally nodded.
And finally, everyone left the place...
That night, Seris was lying in the Ashfall infirmary.
Several healers had taken turns working on the wounds on her body. Her broken ribs had mostly healed, her broken wrist had been put back into the correct position and the muscle damage caused by putting too much pressure on her body was quickly healing.
But her left eye was still hidden behind a layer of cloth and healing covering.
It was not supposed to return this quickly, according to the healers, it could take until morning.
The room was almost dark, but she could not sleep, a small panel opened in front of her only healthy eye.
[Evolution Goal: Kill the Disaster.]
Seris looked at the same sentence for a long time, then the image of Lian came to her mind.
Not normal Lian, but the thing that had come out of the cocoon.
Purple eyes, an empty look, the strike that had slammed One into the tree.
Then herself, the hand that had caught her sword, the slap, the broken wrist and finally that pause.
She brought her eyebrows together.
Why did he not kill them?
If the Black Silence had truly taken full control, what reason did it have to leave ready food behind?
One.
Seris herself.
Aren.
Selina.
All of them were alive, all of them were weak, none of them could stop it, but it left and ignored them.
Was it because of mercy? Or did that disaster not even consider them worthy of being called insects? Or.... was it resistance from the real Lian?
Seris closed the panel.
If she had to, could she really push her sword into Lian’s heart?
She did not answer.
Because she had not been forced to yet and until she was forced to, she did not want to know the answer.
In the morning, Ashfall seemed calmer than the night before, but this calm was not real, it was only the silence before another movement.
Seris came out of the infirmary.
Her body had recovered from all the injuries. Her mana had completely returned and she no longer felt a sharp pain in her side with every step and her lost eye had finally returned as well.
Aren was also in much better condition, the color had returned to his face and his mana was no longer dangerously low, his two arms had also returned.
One had also managed to stand on his own feet again.
His movement was still a little slow and several large cracks remained on his natural armor, but compared to six days ago, he looked almost like a different creature.
The group gathered in the central square.
Rindo.
Marcus.
Cassian.
Ethan.
Liana.
Seraphina.
Selina.
Seris.
Aren.
One.
And several other Awakened who had been chosen from among the strongest remaining people.
Everyone was ready to move.
Rindo looked at the people in front of him, they were about to begin the journey to the Giant Graveyard.
They were going toward a creature that Lian might still be alive inside, or maybe there was nothing left of him anymore, they were going to a place they might never return from alive.
He opened his mouth to give the order to move, but before he could say even one word, the sound of running came from one of the side streets.
An Awakened was running toward them at full speed, his face had no color, part of his clothes was covered in blood.
When he reached Rindo, he almost lost his balance.
"Sir!"
"What happened?"
The man tried to control his breathing, but could not.
"Something very bad happened."
"What?" Rindo’s frown became deeper.
The Awakened looked behind him for a moment, there was real fear in his eyes.
"Everyone..."
He took another breath.
"Everyone is attacking each other."
Several people changed their stance at the same time.
"What? Who? Why?" Marcus asked.
"The Awakened, the western barracks... the infirmary... even the guards." The man answered.
From not far away, a loud scream was heard, then the sound of breaking glass, then another scream.
"They’re killing each other! For no reason! One moment they’re normal, then suddenly it’s like they lose their minds!" The Awakened continued.
At that moment, the sound of an emergency horn rose from outside Ashfall, everyone turned their heads.
Once.
Then a second time.
And a third.
Everyone knew that sound, but the horn was not an attack signal from the Humans, this time it was an internal warning from the Cindari, which meant something had also happened on the other side of the walls.
Several more screams came from the streets of Ashfall.
Seris stood completely still, the images from the past six days returned to her mind one after another.
Wolves tearing open the stomachs of their own kind.
Monsters fighting their own groups for no reason.
Creatures that, even after their bodies were torn open, only thought about killing.
Aren also looked at her, apparently he had made the same connection.
Seris took her eyes away from the street and looked at the blood-red sky above Vhalaris, the sounds of fighting inside the city were becoming louder.
And outside the walls, the emergency horns of the Cindari continued to sound one after another.
"It has started, those monsters we saw on the way, all of them were going crazy." Seris’s voice became colder.
The sound of a sword hitting something came from one of the nearby buildings, followed by a painful scream, now she knew exactly what had happened.
The Forgotten Tree was dead.
The disaster had been born.
And now the same nightmare that had brought this world to the edge of destruction years ago was spreading again.
Seris looked at the sky one last time.
"The Black Silence is infecting this entire world again."
