Chapter 574: Chapter 574 - Training Camp
Bolly Mountain.
On a flat area of the mountain, a seemingly ordinary woman stood confronting an intermediate-level demonic boar.
She was unarmed, and there was no sign of Qi emanating from her, making her appear no different from a mortal. But how could a mortal possibly stand a chance against a demonic beast?
The demonic boar, on the other hand, had its left eye destroyed and bleeding profusely, clearly the woman’s handiwork. Its remaining eye burned with fury as it locked onto her.
Ukh! Ukh! Ukh! Hrraaarrgh!
With a furious roar, the boar lowered its head and charged.
Its massive body thundered across the ground, each step shaking the earth as its razor-sharp tusks pointed straight at the woman. Trees along its path trembled from the sheer force of its advance.
The instant the tusks were about to reach her, the woman shot upward.
The boar had expected that.
Instead of slowing down, it compressed its powerful hind legs and exploded into the air, carrying all the momentum of its charge with it. Its enormous body rose far higher than something of its size should have been capable of, the gleaming tusks arcing toward her chest.
But the woman had anticipated that as well.
Without the slightest panic, she shifted sideways in midair with a small movement, allowing the boar to rush past just inches away.
At the same moment, she thrust her hand toward its exposed left side.
Dozens of invisible swords that had been silently waiting around the battlefield shot forward all at once.
Like a pack of unseen predators finding an opening, they converged upon the same weak point she had discovered earlier.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
The invisible blades slammed through the boar’s thick hide one after another. Some failed to pierce completely, while others drove deeper, each strike forcing its way toward the heart.
The demonic boar crashed back onto the ground with a deafening boom.
ROOOAAARRR!!
A cry of agony erupted from its mouth.
Blinded by pain, it charged wildly in every direction, smashing into trees and boulders alike. Trunks snapped apart, rocks shattered into countless fragments, and the surrounding forest shook under its violent rampage.
Gradually, its movements became slower.
Its heavy breathing turned ragged.
Then, with one final stagger, the enormous body tilted to one side and collapsed onto the ground.
Boom!
The earth trembled beneath its weight.
Its limbs twitched several times before finally becoming still.
Blood continued to gush from the wound behind its front leg, where one of the invisible swords had pierced straight through its heart.
The woman remained where she was, quietly listening.
Using her spiritual hearing, she confirmed that the powerful heartbeat inside the demonic beast had completely ceased.
"Fuuhhh... I did it."
She let out a long breath as she slowly descended to the ground.
After a week of training, she had finally killed her first intermediate-level demonic beast without any assistance.
Entirely by her own ability.
"Hahaha! Good job, Gwen!" Leyvi emerged from his hiding spot.
He had been prepared to intervene if Gwen failed, but in the end, it wasn’t necessary.
Among the twenty-seven Spiritual Cultivators who came to experience real combat, about half completely lacked battle sense. The other half at least managed to kill a low-level demonic beast on their own.
After observing them throughout the week, Leyvi judged that only four possessed truly outstanding combat instincts. Gwen was one of them and, just before the training camp came to an end, she became the last among the four to successfully hunt an intermediate-level demonic beast without anyone’s assistance.
As for those who lacked battle sense, Leyvi focused on teaching them the fundamentals of survival. Instead of forcing them to win, he taught them how to defend themselves, retreat efficiently, and preserve their lives.
During this one-week training camp, it wasn’t only the Pure Spiritual Cultivators who learned something.
Leyvi himself had also gained many new insights from observing them.
Unlike Qi Cultivators, battles between Spiritual Cultivators were usually eerily silent and almost completely invisible to ordinary eyes, unless they entered the Zenith State.
Qi Cultivators naturally revealed themselves whenever they circulated Qi. Whether attacking or defending, streams of glowing Qi would wrap around their bodies or techniques, illuminating the battlefield. The color varied depending on the nature of their Qi and the technique they were using.
Spiritual Cultivators were the complete opposite.
Their mental power produced almost no visible phenomenon. Invisible blades sliced through the air without warning. Silent pressure descended from nowhere. A person could be lifted, restrained, or crushed without ever seeing what was happening.
Even their flight reflected this difference.
Qi Cultivators flew by propelling themselves with bursts of Qi. Every acceleration created subtle explosions of force, producing whistles and shockwaves through the air. Although masters with exceptional Qi control could greatly reduce the noise, it could never be eliminated entirely.
Spiritual Cultivators, on the other hand, flew by manipulating Spiritual Pressure.
Instead of pushing themselves forward, they continuously applied invisible force directly onto their own bodies, counteracting gravity before gently redirecting that force to move in any direction they desired.
As a result, an experienced Spiritual Cultivator could glide through the sky almost like a drifting leaf, leaving behind neither sound nor visible fluctuations.
Of course, that still depended on the individual.
If it were Leyvi...
Silence was probably the last word anyone would use to describe his fighting style.
He rarely relied on precision alone. More often than not, he simply overwhelmed his opponents with absurd amounts of power, smashing everything in his path.
Among Spiritual Cultivators, he was probably the loudest one of them all.
During this training camp, each of them gradually developed their own preferred way of fighting.
Some conjured invisible swords, others favored spears, claws, needles, scythes, and many other sharp weapons as their primary means of attack.
Only Leyvi still fought using his gigantic invisible hands, crushing his targets with overwhelming force. He could conjure other kinds of weapons as well, but the enormous hands remained the combat style he was most comfortable with.
However, Leyvi understood why their fighting styles were so different.
His mental power was overwhelmingly stronger than theirs, allowing him to rely on brute force alone. Their mental power, on the other hand, was still relatively limited. Instead of trying to overpower their opponents, conjuring sharp weapons to maximize penetrating power was naturally the more efficient choice.
However, there was one aspect where he couldn’t compare to them at all.
The number of mental constructs they could conjure.
It was the same weakness he had always possessed.
Even after so much practice, the number of spiritual constructs he could create and control simultaneously had never exceeded a single digit.
The other Spiritual Cultivators, however, could maintain dozens of them at once. One among them could even control over a hundred simultaneously.
One of the four Spiritual Cultivators with exceptional combat sense, Zaman, fought using a hundred invisible needles.
His precision and control were astonishing. Each needle moved independently, weaving through the battlefield like an invisible swarm.
During one battle, he defeated an intermediate-level demonic beast by repeatedly sending the needles through tiny openings in its hide. They burrowed into its body, pierced its organs one after another, and inflicted countless internal injuries until the beast finally collapsed from accumulated damage.
It was a level of fine control that Leyvi readily admitted he couldn’t replicate.
All in all, Leyvi was extremely satisfied with the training camp.
He wasn’t sure how much the Spiritual Cultivators had learned from him, but he himself had learned a great deal from them.
"I was just lucky, Instructor Leyvi. I managed to injure the boar’s eye by accident early in the fight." Gwen didn’t let the victory get to her head.
She knew the demonic beasts here weren’t as dangerous as truly wild ones. This was a controlled training ground after all.
"That doesn’t matter. Accidents happen all the time in battle. What’s important is recognizing the opportunity and taking advantage of it immediately. You did exactly that, so good job." Leyvi praised.
"Besides, throughout this training camp, I deliberately restricted all of you to using only conjured weapons. If you were allowed to use actual weapons, you might be even stronger." He added.
Gwen shook her head.
"That’s what we thought too, at least in theory, since real swords have actual mass. But for some reason, I can feel that I’m actually stronger using the invisible swords I conjure myself than manipulating real ones."
"It’s not just me either. The others feel the same way."
"Really?" Leyvi was surprised. He had never compared the two because he had never tried manipulating real weapons with his Spiritual Touch.
"Yes. I think it’s related to our nature as Spiritual Cultivators. I’m not sure how it works yet, but we’ll have to study it once we get back." Gwen speculated.
"Hahaha! Great! Another mystery to solve." Leyvi laughed happily. "When you guys figure out the reason later, make sure to tell me, alright?"
"Of course. You’re our combat instructor after all. We learned a lot from you this past week. How could we leave you out?"
"Haha. I’ll take that as proof that I did a good job as your combat instructor." Leyvi smiled before turning around. "Alright, let’s head back to the others."
"Wait, Instructor Leyvi!" Gwen called out.
Leyvi turned his head. "What is it?"
"Please help me store this demonic boar. My space bag can’t fit something this big." Gwen requested.
"Oh, right. My bad." Leyvi walked over and stored the massive boar into his space ring.
He had been using his internal storage room for so long that he had completely forgotten about the storage limitations of average cultivators.
Not to mention, Gwen and the others weren’t wealthy. They couldn’t afford space rings, so they all still relied on space bags, which simply weren’t large enough to store something like this.
Leyvi chuckled inwardly.
It had been a demonic boar too when he first made use of his internal storage room.
After that, Leyvi and Gwen returned to the group, who had been waiting for them to finish.
The supervisor was very satisfied with everyone’s progress over the past week and thanked Leyvi for his cooperation.
Just as the supervisor was about to lead them back to the city, a thunderous roar echoed from the depths of the mountain.
Roar!!
The trees shook violently as a high-level demonic gorilla burst out from the forest, charging straight toward them with earth-shaking footsteps.
"Crazed demonic beast!" several people exclaimed.
"Weird. Where did this one come from? It shouldn’t be here." The supervisor frowned. "Let me take care of it."
"Wait, Supervisor Leo." Leyvi smiled as he stepped forward. "Let me deal with it."
He had spent an entire week watching others fight.
Now, he had been itching for a little fight himself.
