The Astral Avatar didn’t reply and had its sword pointed at Leon. Leon looked at the demon. He too was looking bewildered, staring at the avatar with his mouth hanging open.
Leon looked back at the avatar as the Demon Sword materialized in his hand from the system storage. He raised the sword and pointed the sword tip toward the avatar. "If you want a fight, then bring it on." Saying that, Leon leaned forward.
The avatar also moved. It leaned forward as well, drawing its hand with the sword back like a coiled spring.
And then...
Boooom!
Both bolted forward from their places and struck at each other.
Clanggggg! Metal met metal with a loud explosion. The avatar held its ground while Leon skidded back, his legs digging trenches in their wake.
Leon’s pupils contracted. "What the hell! It’s only in the Body Refinement realm, but I couldn’t overwhelm it with strength. I understand it’s condensed from the ninth layer and all, but how can the gap be this much? And what will happen when I wield this avatar? What will happen when it reaches the Martial Master realm like me?"
But before Leon could have his answers, the avatar moved again. It lunged at Leon, brandishing the massive Demon Sword.
Leon had no other option but to react, as the avatar didn’t look like it was only sparring. It looked like it was out for blood. Leon’s blood.
Clannngggggg!
Leon was again pushed back, this time through the air. The avatar spun on its heel and hurled the sword.
The giant sword cut through the air and reached Leon in an instant.
Leon knew he wouldn’t be able to defend against this with his sword and leapt back, dodging.
Booooooooooom! The sword struck the ground where Leon was just a moment ago.
Rumble!
Rumble!
Rumble!
The whole area shook as dust and debris rained down. Once the dust settled, Leon and the demon saw that a large crater had been created.
The avatar was already on the move again, flying toward Leon, its right arm outstretched, palm wanting to grab the sword from where it was.
"Mirror." Leon shouted.
The avatar abruptly stopped, its massive legs falling to the ground with loud thuds before sliding forward a bit.
The avatar then doubled over slightly, panting. The same thing Leon was doing at the moment.
"This fourth command. Consider this your first and last time getting this. What were you doing? Trying to kill me or something?" Leon asked.
The avatar mimicked his movements. The facial expressions, the twitching of eyebrows, hand gestures in frustration. But it didn’t say anything.
The demon walked forward. "That is strange, master. It’s my first time seeing an avatar act like this. Maybe it’s because the avatar is condensed from the astral energy of the ninth layer."
Leon straightened his back. "Who knows. But whatever the case, I am definitely not giving the fourth command again."
"Wise choice, master. I don’t think you will need that anyway. The four commands are already enough. Now about the fifth command. Should I explain about this?" The demon asked.
"Yes. Go on."
"The fifth command is ’Limit Break’. This is a very powerful move, Master. With this, the avatar will expand in size. Its expansion will depend on the wielder’s QI reserve. And once it has reached the limit of expansion, it can deliver one strike mimicking the wielder. But that one strike will contain every bit of strength the wielder can afford. If put in simple words, with this one strike, the master’s dantian will be totally emptied out."
Leon’s eyes widened. ’What an intriguing ability. I really need to see this in action. Because in a large-scale fight, this move can turn out to be a game-changer. But I should refrain from using it now, as I have to go through the test as well.’ Leon then looked at the demon. "How long do I have before the next phase starts?"
"Two hours, Master. Would you like to start it now?"
"No. I will cultivate the avatar for now. Though it’s strong, it’s only in the Body Refinement stage. Let’s see how far it can reach before I am done with all the tests."
"Very well, master. I will remind you when it’s time, then." The demon said respectfully.
Leon nodded and walked into the distance. After finding out a suitable location, he sat down into lotus position again. The avatar did the same.
Leon closed his eyes and tried to feel the astral energy from the ninth layer again. A brilliant beam of light descended once more, showering over Leon. He followed the Mystic Monarch Ascension technique to absorb the astral energy and refine it.
[You have absorbed astral Qi.]
[You have absorbed astral Qi.]
Notifications continued to flood the panel as Leon sat there unmoving. Only after five minutes...
[You have absorbed enough astral Qi for a breakthrough.]
[Your avatar has reached the second stage of the Body Refinement realm.]
After eleven more minutes, Leon achieved another breakthrough. Time continued to tick by. For the avatar’s progress, Leon didn’t even need to rely on monster cores. Though the earth didn’t have astral energy in the same way as spiritual energy, Leon could directly absorb it from the Astral River. If only he could do the same for his own cultivator as well.
By the time two hours ended, Leon’s avatar had already reached the seventh stage of the Body Refinement realm. The speed was just too shocking. Leon found it too unbelievable and felt a bit jealous as well.
"It’s time for your eighth phase, master."
"Yeah, I know," Leon said as he stood up and stretched his arms a bit. "Let’s get done with this so that I can again start cultivating."
"Certainly, Master." Saying that, the demon hovered in the air and went higher before snapping his fingers.
Two figures emerged from the ground. One male and one female. This time, Leon’s opponents weren’t monsters but humans. Humans with a strange appearance, though. The two people who had just emerged had pointed ears. And unlike the monsters, they didn’t have any traces of Qi in them. Rather, they were emanating an aura that contained dense mana.
"Mages," Leon whispered.
"Elves, Master." The demon said from the sky.
