The lightning sphere continued to grow in size in the sky as if there were no end to it. The place where Sylus was standing caved in as a dark ring appeared and continued to grow in size. The space distorted as air howled violently.
The gust of wind caused by the sphere pushed everyone back.
"He’s gone mad. He’s going to kill all of us." The elder said in a panicked voice. "Let’s leave. Fast." Saying that, she turned around and quickly left with Hazel and Wren.
Amber and Chen also spun on their heels before bolting away.
"Leon, let’s run. He’s going all out." Emily said while grabbing Leon’s wrist, ready to leave. But as she tried to run, she found that Leon wasn’t moving. Not even an inch. She snapped back. "What are you doing?" She found that Leon was looking up, staring at the growing energy ball. There was no fear, no tension in his face. Rather, he looked eager. It was as if he was waiting for Sylus to throw that lightning sphere at him.
Snow wasn’t moving either. She had seen what Leon could do. She had seen him taking fireballs like they meant nothing. And looking at Leon now, she knew he had more surprises for her.
Sol wasn’t feeling very positive either. Leon’s earlier display of battle prowess had stunned and shocked him beyond words. But he still wasn’t that confident that Leon could take this attack and come out unscathed. It was better to be safe than sorry. "Big bro, let’s leave." He also grabbed Leon’s other wrist and tried to pull him away.
Leon finally looked at them and smiled helplessly. "Why don’t you guys leave first? Don’t worry about me. I know what I am doing." He then looked at Snow. "You, too."
"I am not leaving without you," Emily said with a straight face.
"I want to witness whatever is about to happen from close range. The closer, the better." Snow added.
Leon sighed. "Alright. But at least stand one hundred meters away from me."
"Just one hundred? Four to five hundred may be better, no?" Sol said with an awkward smile. He wanted to leave. Though he cared about Leon, he had no intention of being a part of an experiment. What if Leon failed in whatever he was trying to do? But with Emily present, he knew he couldn’t leave.
Leon didn’t reply and focused on the sphere that was growing bigger with each passing second.
Emily and Snow moved back. Sol followed immediately. They continued to create distance and finally stopped when they were about one hundred meters away.
The sphere got so big that the shadow covered the whole mountain.
"You guys need to move back more. Go to the other mountaintop if possible." Leon shouted.
"I am not going," Emily said.
"Me neither." Snow followed.
"Snow, don’t be stupid. That attack will raze this place to the ground." Snow’s uncle, who had also stayed behind, tried to persuade her.
"Uncle, don’t worry about me. He came back from the Red Horn’s Nest. Don’t you think if he didn’t even have the ability to withstand something like this, then he would have already died inside the volcano?"
Snow’s uncle became speechless at that. Her reasoning was accurate. But if only she knew that Leon survived with ease inside the volcano because he already had fire immunity. But now, he was about to fight against a totally new element. He had already achieved some bit of lightning resistance as well, but that would not be enough to easily deal with the attack that was coming.
"He isn’t telling you to totally leave," Sol said hurriedly. "He’s only telling us to move back. What if we don’t follow and he gets distracted because of it? You two ladies wouldn’t want that, would you?"
At his words, Emily and Snow shared a glance. Nobody moved, as if no one wanted to be the first to show weakness.
Meanwhile, Sylus’s lips curved into a malicious smile. ’Fool. You could have run and avoided this. But just to act high and mighty, you stayed behind. Now it’s time for you to pay for your ignorance.’
The massive lightning sphere crackled. Its diameter was at least five hundred meters. Even Sylus looked like an ant in comparison to it. The sphere wasn’t growing anymore. The violent aura sent a chill down everyone’s spine. Even those who were standing on other mountaintops weren’t spared.
And then...
Sylus waved his hand down.
Rumble!
Rumble!
Rumble!
The sphere descended like a meteor, lightning arcs trailing behind it.
Huuuuuuuuuuu! The air howled.
Noticing that Emily and others hadn’t left the mountain, Leon sighed a little. He looked up and leaned forward slightly. And then...
He jumped, soaring high in the sky.
The sphere and Leon both charged at each other.
"What?" Sol was bewildered to see Leon charge like that. Others wore the same expression as well.
Boooooooooooooom!
A loud shockwave erupted as the lightning sphere exploded the moment it came into contact with Leon’s fist. Lightning streaked across the sky. Leon’s body was flung downward, but he landed on his feet. The ground at the mountaintop caved in. Energy waves erupted outward, sending everyone still present flying.
Zzzzzzzzzzz!
A round barrier of lightning arcs swallowed Leon. His clothes charred. His hair became straight like spikes. His body stiffened as the lightning energy entered his body and tried to make him explode.
"LEON!!!!!!" Both Emily and Snow screamed at the same time, still in the air.
But Leon couldn’t hear them. All his focus was on the wild energy that was running rampant inside his body, trying to tear each cell apart.
And on the notifications.
[Host is exposed to extreme lightning. Lightning Resistance has increased drastically.]
[Lightning Resistance: 5%]
[Lightning Resistance: 10%]
[Lightning Resistance: 15%]
[Lightning Resistance: 22%]
The crater caved in even farther. The mountain’s height was reduced by twenty meters with a loud bang as stones and dust erupted.
Lightning continued to char his skin and internal organs. But his self-healing ability kicked in as well. His body was being destroyed and regenerated at the same time.
Everyone could only watch. Some in amazement, others in shock or fear.
Booooom!
Leon’s legs cratered deeper. The mountain’s height was reduced by another one hundred meters.
Sylus’s smile vanished.
Because the explosion effect was slowly reducing, the lightning arcs fading. Yet Leon was still alive. He was fighting to live, yes. He looked in pain, yes. But he was still alive.
And...
He was actually smiling.
