Soon, Leon and the others reached their destination. They were standing four hundred meters away from the cave of the monster.
"We are here," Luna said.
"No matter what, we must obtain the egg today," Juan added
Leon didn’t say anything and looked ahead. The monster was standing just outside the cave. Its eyes were closed, chest slowly rising and falling.
"Juan. You and Naveen stay here. Mini, you will come with us, but hide behind a boulder or cover. You will keep supporting us from there. Luna, you will take the right side, and I will take the left. Leon, do you think you can charge from the front?" Riven asked.
"I will try," Leon said. ’Want me to take the front? Why does it feel like they want to use me as bait?’ Leon wondered.
Everyone moved. Juan and Naveen took cover behind tall trees. Juan drew the bowstring, nocking an arrow. He aimed at the monster. Naveen did nothing but mentally prepare himself to act at any moment.
At a distance of one hundred meters, Mini hid behind a boulder.
But just as Leon, Riven, and Luna were about to disperse in three directions...
Booooooooom!
A loud explosion erupted, sending a shockwave.
Leon and the other two were flung through the air. The boulder Mini was hiding behind cracked slightly.
When the dust settled, everyone found the bull monster standing where the explosion had occurred. Its left arm hung, holding the shield. The sword in its right hand rested on its shoulder.
Before anyone could react, the monster appeared before Luna. It thrust the shield forward. Luna held her sword to block, but the moment it clashed against the shield, her hand went numb due to the force. Cracks appeared on the blade. Blood sprayed from her mouth as her feet left the ground and she was sent flying.
Riven was already rushing toward Luna when the monster vanished from its position and appeared beside Riven. Before he even had the chance to react, the sword in the monster’s hand flashed through the air.
The sharp blade raked his chest in one smooth swing.
Whoooooosh!
Riven’s body was sent flying, something shattering in his chest. A defensive artifact. If not for it, the last attack surely would have sent him to his death’s door.
The monster vanished again, lunging toward its next target. Leon.
Leon gritted his teeth as the second bloodline activated. A wave of energy erupted from his body.
The monster appeared before him, ready to attack. But something changed. The monster’s eyes narrowed as if it had noticed something.
Whoosh!
Whooosh!
Whoooosh!
Right then, three arrows whistled through the air. The monster also reacted instantly. Its blade cut two of them in quick succession. But just when the third arrow was about to be cut down, the arrowhead lifted upward, dodging the slash. The next moment, it pierced through the skin on the monster’s forehead.
The monster’s eyes snapped toward Juan in the distance. It was about to charge toward him, but just then, Leon lowered his body and pivoted around one of his heels.
Bam!
The rear legs were forced outward. The monster was about to fall when six explosive fireballs slammed into its body one after another.
Boooom!
Booooom!
Boooom!
The monster’s body was thrown away.
Luna and Riven acted decisively. Even after their injuries, they charged at the monster at once.
The halberd in Riven’s hand flashed dangerously. From a distance, Mini used her reinforcement magic to amplify the strength behind Riven’s attack.
Before the monster could react, the sharp edge of the halberd slashed through one of the monster’s arms.
Schlk!
Blood sprayed as one of the monster’s arms was chopped off.
Luna’s attack followed. The sword flashed, a stream of white energy trailing behind it. She was aiming for the remaining arm. The monster reacted at the last moment. Though it tried to dodge the full attack, the sword tip raked its shoulder deeply, drawing fresh blood.
Leon appeared before it again, his knees burying in the monster’s chest.
Bammm!
The monster was flung through the air. It cratered into the ground. It had no time to react as fireballs and arrows rained down on it.
Dust and smoke rose.
Leon stood where he was. For some reason, he felt something was wrong. ’When the monster was about to attack me earlier, why did it feel like it hesitated for a moment? And right after that, it started fighting defensively.’
Juan and Naveen didn’t stop. They continued to attack relentlessly.
The ground where the monster had cratered caved in.
The explosions continued for several minutes before finally coming to a stop.
Nobody moved. They all waited for the dust to settle.
"Is it dead?" Naveen asked.
"Can’t say. But I hope it is," Juan replied.
Mini also raised her head from behind the boulder to see what the current condition was.
Luna and Riven walked up to Leon and stopped beside him. Riven was still holding the halberd in a fighting stance. Luna, too, was holding her sword tightly.
"Did we do it? Did we really kill it?" Riven asked excitedly.
"Maybe," Luna said, but for some reason, her brows were furrowed.
The dust slowly settled. And they all could finally see the monster again. It lay sprawled, blood pooling beneath it. One arm was chopped off. Multiple wounds on the body. Some deep. Some shallow. It wasn’t moving at all.
"Hahahhahahaha." Riven burst into laughter. "We did it. We really did it."
Luna’s face also relaxed a little.
Juan and Naveen came toward them from the distance. Mini also arrived.
"Congratulations," Leon said. "Finally, your village can be free of the curse."
"Yes. It’s all thanks to you," Riven said.
"I did nothing extra. It was a combined effort."
"You are too humble, brother," Riven said.
"Let’s go and check the egg first," Leon said as he started walking toward the cave. He was curious to see what was so great about the egg that it was affecting the environment.
"Sure. But before that..." Riven said. Something sharp and cold touched Leon’s back.
