I Can Reincarnate Infinitely

Chapter 227 - 223: The Demon Race Reappears

When the meeting finally ended, they still hadn’t come to a resolution.

Shi Shentong held firm to his opinion. He refused to allow the Artifact Spirits of the Blood Slaughter Sword and the Rivers and Mountains Map to participate in the investigation, nor would he agree to treat Wandering Dragon and Yin Ruozhen as the main suspects.

However, after this meeting, the Holy Blood Sect’s Elder Council had already fractured into three camps.

The largest group was the neutral faction.

They didn’t want the situation to escalate. They only wanted to treat the symptoms, not the cause, agreeing to investigate the Demon-Hiding Vase but refusing to investigate Wandering Dragon.

Meanwhile, Wandering Dragon and Du Youqian each had a handful of supporters, leaving them evenly matched as they launched attacks against one another.

Additionally, about a dozen other Core Formation Masters hadn’t been involved. They were either in seclusion, garrisoning remote posts, or traveling the world in search of a breakthrough to the Golden Core Middle Stage.

Du Youqian led Meng Xiao back to his cave residence, the furious expression on his face vanishing.

His anger had just been an act for the others. In truth, he was perfectly calm and knew his proposal would never have gained widespread support.

’For the Sect, stability trumps all else.’

’Anyone with a discerning eye could see that the appearance of several hundred living members of the Demon Race signified that Momenan was facing a paradigm shift unseen in millennia.’

’Under such circumstances, they absolutely could not afford to start with internal strife.’

’Even with their suspicions about Wandering Dragon, any investigation had to be conducted privately and cautiously. Creating a schism was out of the question.’

’To be brutally honest, if the most powerful sect of the Human Race fractured from within, the entire Human Race would be in grave danger.’

’The resulting damage would be far worse than the appearance of a few dozen Core Formation Demon Kings.’

Still, Du Youqian had to raise the issue at the meeting. He needed to plant a seed of doubt in everyone’s mind.

The days that followed were calm and uneventful.

Even Du Youqian’s Core Formation Ceremony was a rather tepid affair.

Against the backdrop of the Demon Race’s appearance, no one was in the mood for a grand celebration.

Even Lin Sha didn’t seem to be in the mood for amorous entanglements with Du Youqian. She was more concerned with how the Holy Blood Sect planned to handle the emergence of the Demon Race.

Du Youqian told her of his suspicions about Wandering Dragon and Yin Ruozhen. Lin Sha revealed that the Heavenly Emotions and Oceanic Resentments Sect had also planted some very high-level moles within the Taihe Sect.

As one of the three titans of the Heavenly Emotions and Oceanic Resentments Sect, she could mobilize those moles to watch Yin Ruozhen and provide him with intelligence.

In his spare time, Du Youqian reviewed the Cultivation Techniques, Secret Techniques, and even Meng Xiao’s personal notes related to Human Dao Fortune. He familiarized himself with them but didn’t study them in depth.

He spent most of his time increasing his own combat prowess. He forged Treasures, created small, portable Arrays, and refined Elixirs to restore his Magical Power or provide explosive bursts of energy.

He was also hoping someone would attempt Core Formation soon. He wanted to use their Tribulation Thunder to temper his Golden Core and physical body, but unfortunately, no one in all of Momenan had attempted it in years.

As for his own Cultivation, he had barely performed any breathing exercises in the past few years.

After Tier Three, Elixirs for advancing one’s Cultivation became prohibitively expensive—so costly that even with his considerable wealth, he could hardly afford them.

If he relied solely on breathing exercises, his Middle Grade Fire-Wind Spirit Root meant it would take at least eighty to a hundred years of patient grinding to reach the Golden Core Middle Stage.

Therefore, it was far more cost-effective to focus on increasing his combat power first.

For the past few years, all the sects in the world, led by the Holy Blood and Taihe Sects, had been searching for that band of Demons. Du Youqian also had his own forces working tirelessly to gather intelligence, especially to confirm whether Yin Ruozhen and Wandering Dragon truly had ties to the Demon Race. Unfortunately, he had come up empty-handed.

Not only did those Demons never show any trace again, it was as if they had vanished into thin air.

Even Yin Ruozhen and Wandering Dragon had been behaving themselves, diligently cultivating in seclusion for years without exposing any issues.

It was said that Yin Ruozhen was attempting Core Formation and hadn’t left the Taihe Sect in years.

In fact, if you had to point to someone with ties to the Demon Race... it would be Du Youqian himself.

For example, right now.

If anyone saw the little monkey somersaulting on his shoulder, they would surely shout, "Master You De, why are you colluding with the Demon Race? You’re the thief crying ’thief’!"

Several years had passed in a flash since Du Youqian’s Core Formation, yet the Little Monkey still looked as adorable as a newborn, showing no signs of growing up.

The old monkey had grown much more decrepit, its movements slow and labored. But as it watched the lively Little Monkey, its eyes were filled with gentle affection.

It was clear its time was short. It would reach the end of its lifespan in three to five years at most, or perhaps in as little as one or two.

Du Youqian felt a pang of sadness. He also had a headache trying to figure out what to do with the Little Monkey.

For years, the entire world had been weaving an invisible net to find those elusive Demons.

Du Youqian was very worried the Little Monkey would be caught in the crossfire.

He couldn’t possibly keep the Little Monkey with him. But what would happen to it after the old monkey passed away?

Moreover, the Little Monkey was growing day by day.

If he didn’t want to end up fighting the Little Monkey to the death in the future, he had to educate it.

If he just let it grow up wild, what would he do when its natural demonic instincts took over, turning it bloodthirsty and violent?

All in all, it was a mountain of problems.

’If I had known things would turn out this way, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to hatch it.’

Du Youqian racked his brain but couldn’t find a solution. Even Divination offered no inspiration.

Perhaps the Little Monkey’s status was simply too high. After all, it possessed the Great Sage Bloodline. The information he received from Divination was incredibly obscure.

’I can only take it one step at a time.’

After playing with the Little Monkey for two days and nurturing their bond, Du Youqian finally left.

The Little Monkey waved its forelimbs, reluctant to see him go. Even when the Flying Boat was several miles away, he could look back and still see it in the distance, waving its "hand."

When he returned to the Holy Blood Sect, Du Youqian found the atmosphere in the Sect was completely different.

He hadn’t even returned to his cave residence when Luo Jinyu and Fang Hua came to find him.

"Something big has happened!" Luo Jinyu said. "That group of Demons has appeared again! This time they slaughtered a Foundation Establishment Clan in the Yue Kingdom, taking all the clan’s Cultivators and the hundreds of thousands of Mortals under their protection as Blood Food!"

Du Youqian’s gaze hardened. "The Yue Kingdom... that’s in the Red Lotus Sect’s territory, isn’t it? Did they manage to capture any of the Demons?"

Luo Jinyu shook her head. "That Foundation Establishment Clan was slaughtered completely, not a single living person escaped. By the time a passing traveling merchant noticed something was wrong and the Red Lotus Sect rushed over, those Demons had long since disappeared again."

Du Youqian pondered for a moment, then asked, "Was there anything special about that Foundation Establishment Clan?"

Luo Jinyu said, "I heard it was a very ordinary clan, nothing special about it."

Du Youqian was completely baffled. "Then why target a clan like that? Was it just because they were close?"

Luo Jinyu didn’t quite understand either. "Perhaps that’s it."

Du Youqian asked again, "You’ve also reached Foundation Establishment Perfection. When do you plan to attempt Core Formation?"

Luo Jinyu said, "I think I’ll accumulate for another ten or twenty years. I’m only in my nineties, so it’s still early. There’s no rush. Brother Yu, you should give your resources to Fang Hua first. Her foundation is deeper than mine, and she has a better chance of reaching Core Formation."

Du Youqian did not express an opinion.

To him, it was like choosing between the palm and the back of his hand—both were precious.

Gu Xiaofang was unconscious, so Fang Hua and Luo Jinyu were the people he trusted the most.

If one of them could reach Core Formation, or even if both did, he would have a much stronger voice in the Elder Council. He might even be able to force an investigation into Wandering Dragon.

Between the two of them, he actually felt Luo Jinyu had a better chance of reaching Core Formation.

However, in terms of Sword Fighting, Fang Hua was more than a notch above Luo Jinyu. Once she reached Core Formation, she would definitely be an expert capable of fighting two opponents at once. If Luo Jinyu reached Core Formation, however, she would just be an ordinary, rather mediocre Core Formation Master.

Du Youqian’s current resources were limited. He also needed to exchange for a Tier Five Bao Yu to "record" that peerless sword strike.

In the short term, he could only support one person in their attempt at Core Formation.

He hadn’t decided who to support either.

’I should observe them for a while longer!’

After chatting a bit more with Luo Jinyu, sure enough, Supreme Elder Shi Shentong sent out a notice to convene an Elder Council meeting.

At the meeting, Shi Shentong expressed his shock and fury over the annihilation of that Foundation Establishment Clan and declared that the Red Lotus Sect would be severely reprimanded.

If such a thing happened again in the Yue Kingdom, they would have to consider reclaiming some of the Ore Veins or Evil Pools managed by the Red Lotus Sect as punishment.

In addition, the Elder Council discussed and approved two other matters.

The first was a decree to build a world-spanning network for monitoring Demon Qi. This would be achieved by deploying a vast number of Spiritual Artifact "base stations" to achieve total surveillance.

This was a colossal undertaking that would require an immense investment of resources. It also made it clear that the Blood Slaughter Sword and the Rivers and Mountains Map were indeed facing serious issues. Otherwise, they could have just relied on those two "seniors" to monitor the world, rather than wasting precious resources on such a network.

The second matter was to expand the Sect’s Eight Desolates Hall. Three Core Formation Masters would be chosen to oversee it, and they would be equipped with Treasures that allowed for rapid travel, such as the Thousand-Mile Shuttle.

Once Demons were discovered wreaking havoc anywhere, the Eight Desolates Hall would be immediately dispatched to provide support.

Everyone could feel Supreme Elder Shi Shentong’s determination to make a big move.

And yet, just as they did this, the Demons fell silent once more, not reappearing for several years.

Lin Sha sent news that Yin Ruozhen had already begun Core Formation. The Heavenly Emotions and Oceanic Resentments Sect’s mole had personally confirmed Yin Ruozhen’s Core Formation Celestial Phenomenon at the Taihe Sect.

The old monkey was dead.

Du Youqian respected its wishes and buried it next to the old Daoist.

"I don’t know if you were happier in the days you spent with the old Daoist, or more joyful in the days you were free in the mountain forest," Du Youqian poured a gourd of Spirit Wine onto the monkey’s grave. "In any case, you can go keep the old Daoist company for now. He’s been lonely down there for too long."

"If one day I finally attain the Dao, I will definitely come for you both and help you enter the Dao through my Guiding."

Turning to look at the Little Monkey’s sorrowful expression, Du Youqian felt deeply helpless.

"What am I supposed to do with you?"

The Little Monkey looked up at Du Youqian pitifully, its small eyes filled with tears of grief and pleading. It clearly wanted to go with him.

"Sigh," Du Youqian couldn’t bring himself to abandon it after all. "You wait here for me for a while. I’ll go think of something."
