The starship slowly decelerated, gradually flying toward the interstellar teleportation point.
The concept of interstellar teleportation points was something Zhao Rui had only learned about while in the dueling arena.
In the vast universe, journeys were long. It was common to travel for decades or even centuries without seeing a single star.
No matter how capable you were, or how advanced your technological ecosystem, the boundless universe would still make you feel powerless.
To facilitate interstellar travel, many major factions set up teleportation points within their territories, which also doubled as supply depots.
These teleportation points could initiate interstellar travel by folding the dimension between the target location and the point of origin, making it possible to traverse thousands of light-years in an instant.
Of course, only major factions possessed such technology.
These major factions included not only technologically advanced powers, but also those focused on the Martial Dao.
At the highest levels, technology and the Martial Dao were two sides of the same coin; both represented an ultimate understanding and utilization of the universe.
The spatial compression and warping achieved through technology could also be accomplished through the Martial Dao.
The teleportation point Zhao Rui and his companions arrived at belonged to a major faction of a sub-human species.
A "sub-human" species was one that was partially similar to humans in appearance or physiology, but also possessed distinct differences.
It was a term Zhao Rui had coined.
An example was the blue-skinned race from the planet they had previously visited.
’Zhao Rui wasn’t sure if they were reproductively compatible. After all, while the blue-skinned girls were quite attractive, he found it hard to get past the psychological hang-up.’
’During his time on that planet, he had only satisfied his curiosity with his hands, inspecting and exploring a bit in the spirit of scientific inquiry.’
He still preferred women of his own race and skin color.
As the starship approached the interstellar dock, a team of robots with a clear division of labor secured the vessel and began conducting biosecurity scans on the personnel.
"BEEP BEEP. RACIAL CLASSIFICATION: SUSPECTED BRIGHT RACE OFFSHOOT. VERIFYING BIO-SECURITY..."
After a few more mechanical beeps from the scanner, Zhao Rui stepped into the massive interstellar transit station.
"’Hah, look what we have here. People of the Bright Race! Their ancestor is nothing but a stray dog, yet his descendants are still bold enough to wander around!’"
Zhao Rui had only taken about a hundred steps when a group of warriors walked in from another entrance. They looked remarkably similar to him—or rather, to the Bright Race People.
These men wore Armor resembling that of Saint Warriors, and they carried themselves with an imposing air.
The speaker was a short man among them, a fellow whose Armor was adorned with a pair of bull horns.
"’How dare you! Such disrespect toward our master!’"
The Fifth Immortal was enraged. He was one of his master’s followers now, so it was his duty to defend him. He immediately stepped forward, glaring as he rebuked them.
"’You insignificant barbarian! How dare you be so insolent!’"
The horned warrior’s eyes flashed. A powerful aura erupted from his body. He pointed from a distance, and an uncanny stream of Energy instantly enveloped the Fifth Immortal.
But the Fifth Immortal was no pushover. After all, he had lived for a very long time and had wandered the cosmos for many years.
With a loud roar, boundless Flame Power surged from his body, just barely managing to block the incoming Energy assault.
"’Oh? A master? How rare!’"
A faint smile played on the horned warrior’s lips. His figure abruptly vanished, reappearing before the Fifth Immortal in the blink of an eye.
Seeing this, the Fifth Immortal didn’t dare hold back. He unleashed his full power and engaged his opponent in battle.
Their fists and feet met, all the Force of their blows contained within inches of their bodies. To an observer, it looked like a simple, unremarkable practice of Techniques.
But anyone with a discerning eye could tell that the Energy fluctuations between the two were terrifying.
An ordinary person wouldn’t even need to be struck; just getting within that close range would have them pulverized by the contained Energy.
"’You Bulong Star People are said to have long lifespans. You must be an old monster of several thousand years, right? To possess such strength is truly remarkable. Why not join me? Become one of my divine warriors...’"
The horned warrior was clearly more at ease. A battle of this intensity didn’t seem to drain him in the slightest, as he continued to speak with the casual air of someone taking a stroll.
The Fifth Immortal, in contrast, was gritting his teeth just to hold on, clearly on the defensive.
"Brother..."
The other Immortals all looked to their leader, the First Immortal, worried that their fifth brother was no match for his opponent.
Though they had pledged allegiance to Zhao Rui, it was to him as an individual.
They had not pledged themselves to the Bright Divine Domain he represented, which made their current position rather awkward.
The First Immortal waved a hand to silence his brothers, his solemn gaze fixed on the fight, and he said nothing.
Seeing this, the other Immortals had no choice but to wait patiently.
After they had exchanged dozens of blows, their fight finally attracted the attention of the station’s security. A squad of fully armed mechanical soldiers rushed over.
"’Alright, that’s enough!’"
Seeing the mechanical soldiers approach, the lead Armor Warrior waved a hand, halting the horned warrior’s attack.
At the command, the horned warrior’s figure flickered, and he landed lightly back in his original spot.
The lead Armor Warrior then led his men away, striding toward a distant passageway without giving Zhao Rui’s group a second glance.
"’We’ll meet again!!’"
The horned warrior glanced back, flashing a metallic token and sneering at them before turning and swaggering off.
"DETECTED ENERGY CLASH. ENERGY SIGNATURES IDENTIFIED. THREAT LEVEL: HIGH. NON-INTERVENTION PROTOCOL ACTIVATED... RESIDUAL ENERGY BELOW THRESHOLD. SITUATION CONFIRMED: SAFE..."
The mechanical soldiers, who had arrived late to the scene, performed a quick light-based scan and then simply turned and walked away.
They showed no intention of questioning Zhao Rui’s party or pursuing the horned warrior and his companions.
Zhao Rui was a little dumbfounded by this.
’So these mechanical soldiers actually assess the combatants’ strength. If you’re strong enough, they just ignore you.’
’Who says robots don’t have feelings? Their masters’ personalities naturally dictate their underlying logical architecture.’
Zhao Rui gave a silent smile and also turned to walk toward the teleportation corridor.
The Five Immortals followed closely behind him without hesitation, though a strange new look had appeared in their eyes.
The teleportation corridor was an Energy channel built by major factions specifically for medium- to long-distance travel.
Its internal structure was extremely complex, a vast and precise work of engineering.
The moment Zhao Rui stepped inside, he was stunned by this marvel of engineering, the likes of which he had never seen in his past life or his present one.
The entire apparatus was as massive and towering as the Himalayas. Countless mechanical devices operated within, their components moving along complex, orderly trajectories.
Brilliant ribbons of light zipped through it, interspersed with endless streams of incomprehensible runes and data.
Before it, Zhao Rui and his companions were as insignificant as ants.
This transit system was completely different from the colossal, purely architectural structure of the dueling arena; it was something complex, intricate, and profound.
"’Master, this...’"
The Five Immortals were frozen in place. Even for powerhouses like them, who had once dominated an entire planet, the sight of this man-made creation—a colossal work of engineering that far surpassed any natural wonder—left them utterly speechless.
