A few days passed before i reached Town YY, but not because it took that long but because I had found too good of prey, the number of Goolets, and Gruntlings in the area was tremendous, so a good culling was in order, and now that I was not sharing my gained experience, my personal levelling was back to the way it should be from the beginning.
Goolets being a type of slime often talked about by the visiting adventurers that could wind up dropping a sort of adhesive fluid that sold for a tiny sum, Gruntlings on the other hand were something halfway between Goblins and Hobgoblins.
Neither was all to difficult for me to defeat, well except for the Gruntlings if i managed to encounter an entire hunting party which only happened once!
Ultimately since they were monsters their bodies would disipate once defeated and only if you were lucky enough would a drop be left behind, all said and done after days of treking north, Carter only managed to collect a small sum of drops but even so, it should be more than enough to buy a room at an inn, perhaps even getting a new weapon he could.
That of course was also would depend on which guild i could join, i had a feeling like Cade would be joining the adventurers guild since that was always his dream and as a Hero he would be well taken care of there.
Cole on the otherhand, well he could go with Cade unless he was jealous of not being the hero, if that was the case he might go to find the local lord and pledge his sword to the lords order and become a true knight where he would serve that lord, receive training, and work alongside the other knights to do their lords will.
Alison... well that was a tough call, if she was the same as before i'd guess she would be an adventurer while healing Cade and Cole, but now... given her reactions she was probably going to beeline it to the nearest church and submit herself to the sisterhood to begin living the goodlife that was spoken up by the visiting priest.
I was indending to keep an eye on my former partymates and make sure none of them went to far astray, but first i'd need to find them.
No even more first, i'd need to get myself a job. Unless i was planning on being a vagrant or begger while following them around?
When I arrived at the town i quickly got a series of open faced slaps to the face.
I was too young to join the explorers Guild.
To low leveled to join the adventurers.
Didnt look strong enough to join the Mercenary guild.
So my options then became trying to become someones apprentice, their ward, or even turning to crime rather than remaining law abiding.
But my skills right now were aimed towards combat rather than creation, so rather brazenly I left the commercial district behind and instead headed for for the other side of town.

Was I joining the army?
No no no.
My destination wasnt the military district, but rather the industrial one.
My destination was to locate the blacksmiths guild, while i didnt have any desires at present to become a blacksmith myself, like all guilds there would be quests to collect materials, and while adventurers and explorers leaned towards monsters and animals, blacksmiths would need ore.
My strength was already equal to if not surpasing a normal adult so becoming a miner wasnt to far fetched and if i made a good enough relationship with a specific blacksmith i might even be able to get a discount on buying myself some equipment.
This turned out to be a good choice, as the guild happily accepted me and after probably the easiest interview in history, where i was only asked if i was a criminal before being asked to lay my hands on an orb that glowed a pale blue when i touched it.
Apparently if i had broken the worlds taboos, such as theft, murder and the like it would go red, black if i had a warrant out for my arrest by the knights.
After signing up and being given a simple wooden card that had my information burned into its surface, i was free to check out the wood ranked quests the guild could offer.
Luckily enough, goolet adhesive was on that list along with Gruntling fangs, so my entire inventory could be turned in on the spot and netting me some iron and copper coins for my trouble.
Beyond that, i also signed up for a couple of easy recurring quests, that were always going to available.
Quests asking for forging ingredients like adhesive, bones, horns, or fangs that could be used for fashioning hilts for various weapons.
Even feathers used for fletching on arrows.
But the most numerous was the ones asking for ore.
Everything from Copper, all the way up to Orichalcum.
Just looking at the quest board alone you would think this entire town was starving for ore, but that wasnt even close to the truth.
Even if a million tons of iron ore arrive tommorow, the quest would remain because the town would try to use what i could of the stock, while shipping what they couldnt use further up the road to the cities, and captial.
Since they were recurring there was no timelimit on when the quest needed to be turned in, which was perfect for Carter.
He needed the freedom to do what he wanted, and only wanted to work when he needed the money, and seeing as how he currently had coins in hand going to a mine or dungeon could wait for a day or two until he had completed his scouting of the town and gotten a good lay of what was going on with his three siblings.
But after he checked into a cheap inn, that gave him a bed for the low price of only 5 coppers a night.
The other luxury besides a bed in the room was a small mirror attached to the wall.
Which gave Carter the first true look at what he looked like beyond staring at his blurry reflection in still water.
Brown shaggy hair, with brown eyes flecked with green.
His face didnt match the clothes he was wearing, they looked to good for him while his face and hair made him look more like he belonged in the slums rather than paying for a room at an inn.
Deciding it was time for a change and thinking there was no better way than to hide his appearance than by simply changing how he looked he pulled a small dagger from its sheathe and began to slice away at the mop of hair atop his head until there was only a short almost buzz style cut left surely uneven all over but it served its purpose.
Even seeing himself in the mirror once he was finished he almost had to do a double take since he looked so vastly different than just minutes ago.
