Almost an hour had passed since the group had set off.
They could no longer see either the barrier or the closed front.
They had managed to reach the steepest part of the upper path. Now and then, they would spot just a few corrupted monsters and deal with them.
During this time, Dean had managed to collect a few more spirit orbs. Together with the Mid-Level Ghost Orbs in his inventory, this would provide him with a direct way to become stronger once he reached Mid-Level.
Of course, to do this, he first needed to find someone who could process the orbs.
Anyway.
When the group finally reached the end of the path, that is, the top of the slope they needed to descend, they were met with a sight they hadn’t expected at all.
There were a few angels approaching them slowly, who appeared to be equipped with mouth guards.
Just as Dean was about to ask what they were, the leader of the angels standing beside him turned to him and said, "We’ll defend you, but you must still be careful. These scoundrels will put up a fight."
Dean nodded to indicate he understood and, reaching into his inventory, pulled the Spear of Dawn straight out.
The moment he did so, the bodies of the angels beside him trembled instantly.
The energy radiating from the Spear of Dawn was so pure and powerful that it seemed to overwhelm the angels.
Well, of course, the very purpose of this spear was to kill the gods. One could say that this was only to be expected.
When the angels’ gazes turned once more to the front, or rather, to the enemy continuing to climb the slope, the group’s leader made a forward gesture with his hand.
At that very moment, every angel in the group charged straight forward.
As they began to run down the slope in earnest, the enemy angels had no idea what was happening.
Still, it didn’t take them long to regroup.
Each of them had drawn either a sword or a spear and taken up their positions.
As soon as Dean had gathered his courage, he turned to Percival and ordered, "Show no mercy to any of them," then charged straight forward, beginning to run to join the rest of the group.
He gripped his spear tightly; he had fastened the Pocket Watch directly to the inside pocket of his garment, whilst Moon’s Rope was slung over his left arm.
He held the spear with both hands.
He didn’t know any spear-fighting techniques. He was simply certain that, here, like this, at this very moment, he would not die.
Facing them were seven heavily armoured angels.
They weren’t invincible.
They were simply beyond Dean’s level.
Even so, the young man had equipped himself with no fewer than three S-Grade items.
He was certain he wouldn’t die here.
That’s why he was going to do everything in his power.
"Ching!"
"Shing!!!"
"DIE YOU WHORE!!!"
Clashes and shouts rang out one after another.
Dean was still busy running when the shouts had already begun to pierce his ears, and the sounds of the attacks on the heavily armoured angels were starting to distract him.
At that moment, he spotted an enemy angel charging towards him.
Just as he was about to move, Percival had practically pounced on the angel, whilst two of the friendly angels had also advanced to assist him.
Dean, however, was left on his own.
Seeing that he had been left alone, two of the enemy angels immediately attempted to pounce on him from the side, unseen.
Dean, however, extended his left arm towards them, infusing Moon’s Rope with his energy to make it move.
This artefact...item was incredible.
It was an artefact capable of gaining consciousness simply by infusing it with energy.
When Moon’s Rope wrapped itself around an angel, Dean turned to his right, gripped his spear tightly and thrust it straight forward.
"Swiiing..."
The spear in the angel’s hand and the spear in Dean’s hand clashed against one another.
When both spears were driven into the ground, Dean pulled his spear back and attempted to attack again.
"CHONG!!"
The spears had collided with such force that it sounded almost like a bell ringing.
Dean could feel the spear in his hand trembling violently.
The moment he regained his composure, he thrust his spear forward once more.
"SQUELLCH!!!"
As a loud, piercing sound rang out, Dean had successfully managed to pierce the angel directly through the heart.
As he withdrew his spear, the angel clutched his pierced armour with his hand, as if he couldn’t believe his eyes.
"Schlk..!!!!"
Blood gushing out from that area instantly began to cover Dean, and the same thought crossed the mind of everyone who had witnessed what was happening:
"An S-Grade!!!"
The enemies, driven by greed, were fighting on one hand whilst staring at the spear in Dean’s hands on the other.
The allied angels, meanwhile, could do nothing but smile and feel filled with hope.
The presence of an S-Grade on the battlefield could almost guarantee victory.
Of course, S-Grades were categorised among themselves, just as other grades were.
The one in Dean’s hand, however, was one of the highest-tier S-Grades.
Its ability to pierce even heavy armour had now made Dean the most dangerous person on the battlefield.
Dean had finally reached a point where he could ignore the blood spurting towards him.
He had barely managed to stop himself from vomiting and, eventually, turned round to attack that enemy angel who was still struggling to free himself from Moon’s Rope.
Instead of thrusting his spear, Dean had used it to slice through the armour.
"Swooosh...."
The spear sliced through the armour as if it were a knife cutting through butter.
"Schlk..!!"
This time, Dean had pulled back from the area to avoid being splattered with the angel’s blood and tried to see what was happening for the rest of the battle.
Percival and the other pair had already charged forward to kill another angel.
The others, meanwhile, were being pushed back.
It was quite clear where Dean needed to go.
He ran straight towards the group and, without a moment’s hesitation, thrust the spear he was holding straight forward.
He’d gripped the spear at its very tip and thrust it forward as if pushing it through.
He would pierce the enemy closest to him in just the same way.
