King Maelor stepped to the head of the oval table, his massive shadow falling across the dark wood.

Jack Kaiser stopped half a pace to the King’s left, his dark coat falling loosely around his shoulders, his hands tucked comfortably into his trousers.

Rhys stood to the right, his hands resting naturally near the hilts of his twin daggers.

The silence in the annex stretched for five long, suffocating seconds.

Elowen Ashwood rose to her feet, the green velvet of her gown rustling softly against the duskwood.

Her green eyes moved from Maelor’s grim expression to the human standing at his side, her aristocratic composure masking the tension coiling in her shoulders.

"Your Majesty," Elowen spoke, her voice clear, resonant, and carrying the measured cadence of an experienced courtier.

"We were pulled from our estates under the authority of a supreme sovereign summons. We were instructed to assemble in the West Annex rather than the Grand Chamber of the High Council. We sit here without our kin, without our house patriarchs, and without an explanation. What is the meaning of this gathering, and why are there only ten of us seated at this table?"

Sylvea Starling leaned forward, her voice trembling slightly as her lavender eyes locked onto Maelor’s face.

"Where is my brother, Your Majesty? Lord Rowan was attending the morning legislative session. He has not returned to the family carriage, and the palace sentries have barred the perimeter of the upper courts. What has happened?"

Jack Kaiser took a single step forward. The heels of his boots made a sharp, clean sound against the floor. His heterochromic eyes swept across the ten nobles, lingering briefly on Sable Malakor’s amethyst gaze before settling on the center of the table.

"The old Council is dead," Jack said, his voice flat, clear, and devoid of theatricality. "Every single one of your kin has been executed. You ten are sitting in those chairs because you have been selected to take their place."

The words dropped into the room like heavy blocks of lead.

For four full seconds, the breath left the ten nobles in absolute, stunned silence.

Then, the chamber erupted.

"What madness is this?!" Calix Meridan roared, shoving his chair back violently as he sprang to his feet, his amber eyes blazing with sudden, violent rage.

His hand dropped toward the hilt of the rapier at his waist, his knuckles turning white.

"Executed?! The High Council of Caeloria butchered in the sovereign palace?! And you expect us to listen to a human mongrel standing beside our King?!"

Daemon Archon rose slowly, his platinum hair falling across his pale cheek, his hazel eyes narrowing to razor-sharp points.

"A common human issuing pronouncements of life and death to the Great Houses? Maelor, explain this outrage immediately. By the sacred charter of the Founders, the Crown possesses no authority to dissolve the High Council, much less execute the bloodline heads of the founding families without a formal trial before the peerage!"

"Where is Caspian?!" Selene Alyon shrieked, her hands flying to her throat as tears welled in her pale blue eyes. She stumbled out of her seat, her silk gown catching on the chair legs.

"What have you done to my brother?!"

"Silence," King Maelor’s voice crashed through the annex like a falling mountain.

The ancient King did not draw his weapon, but the mana radiating from his chest surged outward in a heavy, physical pulse that slammed against the walls.

The air in the room grew instantly hot, suffocating, and dense, forcing Calix and Daemon back into their seats with the sheer gravity of his presence.

The chandeliers rattled violently above them, their silver chains groaning under the sudden atmospheric pressure.

Maelor’s golden eyes burned as he swept his gaze across the ten frozen aristocrats.

"You speak of charters," Maelor said, his voice deep, gravelly, and carrying an absolute, unyielding finality.

"You speak of trials and the sacred rights of your bloodlines. While you sat comfortably in your provincial villas, your kin were systematically dismantling this realm from the inside out. For five years, Caspian Alyon, Sariel Nyctelios, and Queen Morvana operated an illegal subterranean network beneath this capital.

They refined the narcotic Bloodrush in hidden refineries beneath our streets, utilizing our own citizens from the lower wards and harvesting captured Krogar scouts to fuel an illicit trade that funneled millions in gold into their private vaults."

The color drained from Sirius Anake’s weathered face. The veteran officer leaned forward, his scarred hands flat on the table. "Bloodrush? The border drug?"

"The very same," Maelor continued, each word landing like an iron hammer. "The tensions along the western front were not the result of barbarian aggression. They were deliberately engineered by the High Council. Caspian provided the transport wagons with forged royal seals. Sariel coordinated the voting blocs to suppress all military inquiries.

And Morvana authorized the slaughter of frontier garrisons to keep the trade routes clear. One hundred thousand orc warriors are currently mobilized along our western border, prepared to burn Caeloria to the bedrock because your families farmed their youth for alchemical distillation."

Selene Alyon collapsed back into her chair, her head dropping into her hands as silent, violent sobs wracked her slender frame.

The realization that her brother was not merely dead, but had been executed as a treasonous dog whose crimes threatened the entire kingdom, shattered her completely.

"With the direct intervention of Jack Kaiser, Emissary of Elysium, and my true son and champion, Prince Rhys, the conspiracy was uncovered and liquidated within the throne room this morning," Maelor stated, his gaze locking onto Sable Malakor.

"Leandros died with poison in his veins. Caspian was dissolved into sludge. And Sariel’s treason was too much, that his entire clan was purged from the northern estates. House Nyctelios no longer exists upon this continent. That is why the eleventh chair is empty."

Astraea Ouroboros’s slate-gray eyes widened in pure, unadulterated horror.

Her breath caught in her throat, her rigid posture suddenly sagging against the high back of her chair.

To hear that an entire Great House, a lineage of masters that had stood for a millennium had been wiped from the historical records in a matter of days sent a freezing wave of dread through every noble at the table.

Jack Kaiser reached into his dimensional storage and produced ten thick sheets of pale gold parchment, heavy with dense, glowing runic scripts.

With a flick of his wrist, he sent the documents sliding across the duskwood table.

They glided with supernatural precision, stopping directly before each of the ten seated nobles.

"These are your new terms of existence," Jack said, his voice cold and rhythmic.

"You will sign these charters, swearing absolute, unyielding allegiance to King Maelor, to his restructured regime, and to the formal recognition of the true heir to the throne of Caeloria.

In return, the Crown will graciously overlook the peripheral involvement of your secondary family branches. You will retain your lives, your personal estates, and your seats at this table. Refuse, and your lineages will follow House Nyctelios into the dirt before the sun sets."

Sirius Anake looked down at the parchment, his jaw clenching as his fingers traced the glowing borders of the document.
