"You demand our absolute surrender under threat of extermination. You strip the Council of its founding authority and place an outsider’s boot upon our necks. And who is this ’true heir’ you expect us to bow to? Morvana’s daughters hold the legal succession!"

"The princesses hold nothing," Jack’s voice cut through the air, low and razor-sharp.

The young, arrogant Jack stepped forward, looking directly into Selene Alyon’s weeping eyes, then sweeping his heterochromic gaze across Elowen, Calix, and Sable.

"Before Queen Morvana was placed in abyssal chains, she gave a full, uncoerced confession before her King," Jack said, every syllable calculated to dismantle the last shred of their aristocratic illusions.

"Miravelle, Elysanthe, and Rosethiel are not of royal blood. Not a single one of them carries Maelor’s lineage. Caspian Alyon fathered them while the King was deployed to the frontiers. They are the illegitimate spawn of a traitorous clerk."

The declaration struck the annex like a bomb exploding at the front gate.

Selene gasped, her breath stopped as she looked up in sheer terror.

Calix’s amber eyes darted frantically between Maelor and Jack, his throat working as he tried to process the destruction of the royal succession.

Elowen’s emerald eyes darkened with cold, calculating realization; the three pureblood princesses who had formed the entire political future of the high houses were fraudulent bastards whose claims were completely void.

Down at the right side of the table, Prince Rhys stood tall, his hands resting easily on his hips.

As the reality of Jack’s words washed over the room, a profound, unshakeable clarity settled into Rhys’s chest.

For years, Miravelle, Elysanthe, and Rosethiel had looked down on him from their velvet-lined balconies.

They had sneered at his mixed blood, mocking him as a Vileblood stain that polluted the sacred halls of Nobility.

The trash that he was and the fact that his mother, a human, was constantly allowed access to the palace was too much for nobility.

Every bruise he had taken in the Academy courtyards, every legislative restriction that had forced him into the slums of the lower city to converse with his kind, had been justified under the false divinity of their "unbroken" lineage.

Yet they were never his half-sisters.

They carried no royal authority, no sacred blood, and no right to the crown.

In this entire palace, across all the grand halls and ancestral chambers, the half-blood prince they had despised had been the only true-blooded royal in the realm the entire time.

A faint, cold smirk touched the corners of Rhys’s lips.

A quiet, lethal satisfaction that mirrored the absolute dominance of his mentor.

"I am the true heir," Rhys spoke, his voice ringing through the annex with absolute clarity.

Calix Meridan’s face flushed a violent, mottled red.

The humiliation of the situation, combined with the sudden elevation of the half-blood he had spent decades looking down upon, snapped the last thread of his composure.

"Shut your mouth, Vileblood!" Calix expressed his displeasure, rising slightly from his seat as he fixed his gaze on Rhys; his forehead and neck veins popped out as his anger rose.

"You are an impure mongrel born of a common whore! You think because the Council is dead you can claim the Throne? You have no standing, no pureblood endorsement, and no right to speak in the presence of the Great Houses!"

Rhys did not flinch. He did not raise his voice. He held Calix’s gaze, his eyes narrowing slightly as a dangerous, predatory smile spread across his face.

CLANK-SHING!

In absolute, terrifying unison, the twenty white-armored sentries lining the perimeter of the annex drew their pristine blades.

The sound of twenty sheets of enchanted steel clearing their scabbards echoed off the duskwood walls like a single, massive crack of thunder.

With formidable precision, the guards advanced, positioning the points of their two-handed broadswords precisely two inches from the throats of the ten seated councilors.

They did not waver in their response, and held still like sentries, unwavering in their conviction.

The air in the room plummeted by ten degrees. A dense, lightless spiritual pressure radiated from the white helms, freezing the ten nobles in their seats.

Calix choked on his breath, his hands frozen in mid-air as the broadsword hovering before his jugular hummed with mana from his own body.

Sylvea let out a small, terrified squeak, pressing her back flat against her chair, while Yandor Sideris gripped the armrests of his seat, his cobalt eyes wide with shock.

"Captain!" Yandor shouted, his voice cracking with rising panic as he looked toward the lead sentry. "What is the meaning of this treason?! We are the high nobility of Caeloria! You are sworn to protect the Crown and its magistrates!"

The lead sentry did not adjust his stance. His faceless white visor remained locked forward, his deep, gravelly voice emerging from beneath the steel with the ancient, terrifying resonance of an immortal soldier:

"We do not serve the Great Houses. We do not answer to your magistrates. Our blades serve only King Maelor... and his male bloodline."

The words struck the table with crushing finality.

Rhys stepped forward, resting his palms flat against the duskwood table, leaning in toward Calix.

His green contracted-state markings flared with a sharp, luminous pulse beneath his skin, his eyes locking onto the trembling nobleman with absolute supremacy.

"You can sign those papers and agree to serve as the New Council," Rhys said, his voice dropping into a low, terrifyingly calm register.

"Or every single Great House represented at this table will be eradicated before tomorrow’s dawn. Jack Kaiser is my mentor. You all saw the scrying feeds from the Dragon War. You saw what his armies did to the ancient dragons. You know exactly what he can do. If you force his hand, he will not hesitate to guarantee the total slaughter of your race."

The ten nobles looked down at the pale gold parchments before them, their hands trembling as their eyes scanned the glowing text.

The terms were brutal, and left no room for political maneuver.

The High Council was no longer a governing body with legislative supremacy.

The eight-vote veto that had held the Crown hostage for centuries was permanently dismantled.

Under this new charter, the Council was stripped of its executive power and reduced to an advisory body whose sole legal function was to carry out the sovereign decrees of the King and his recognized heir.

Jack Kaiser stepped up to the edge of the table, his lips curving into a sharp, knowing smile as he watched the aristocratic pride crumble from their faces.

"Consider your positions carefully," Jack added, his voice smooth and conversational.

"Queen Morvana has been deposed and stripped of her titles. King Maelor is now a single man. If you have unmarried sisters, daughters, or cousins within your lineages, they may be presented as royal concubines to the King.

Your families stand to gain immense imperial favor and elevated status under the new dynasty... provided you are standing on the right side of history when this day ends. This is the best thing that could have happened for you.

None of you were ever going to be on The Elven Council anyways. So think carefully."

The tension in the annex shifted palpably.
