If the previous Dark Cyan Lizards were only the size of calves,
then the one that now appeared before Han Yuan was as strong and massive as a wild bull. The claws on its four feet were sharp as blades, glinting with a terrifying cold light.
Its powerful muscles bulged beneath its Scale Armor, and when it charged, it was as unstoppable as a tank!
’This must be the lizard leader.’
Han Yuan wasn’t flustered in the slightest. He watched the charging Dark Cyan Lizard leader and gave a disdainful smirk.
He sheathed his Dragon Sparrow Cloud-Splitting Saber on his back, stepped forward with his left foot, and in the same instant, gathered his Qi Power into his right fist and punched.
BOOM!!!
As his fist flew, the very air in the underground riverbed seemed to be pulled along, forming a terrifying shockwave that slammed heavily into the Dark Cyan Lizard leader’s head.
THUD!
The Dark Cyan Lizard leader’s massive body was sent flying back a dozen meters. After tumbling across the ground, it roared at Han Yuan.
A fist-shaped indentation had been punched straight into its head, which was now dripping with fresh blood.
Han Yuan was a little surprised himself.
He hadn’t expected the Dark Cyan Lizard leader’s head to be so hard.
He had failed to make it explode with a single punch.
"HISSS~~~"
The Dark Cyan Lizard leader shrieked strangely at Han Yuan.
Han Yuan had thought it was about to attack, but the next second, the lizard unexpectedly turned and fled.
Since he was unfamiliar with the underground riverbed, the light was dim, and he didn’t know what dangers lay ahead, Han Yuan decided not to give chase.
’This thing... has some brains, at least.’
Han Yuan shook his head, raised his flint and steel for light, and slowly continued forward.
The underground riverbed stretched on and on, as if it had no end.
The ground was covered in scattered rocks, and the darkness was so thick it felt like he was stepping into a passage of death.
After walking for about ten li—a distance he had estimated purely by feel—Han Yuan finally noticed a change.
In the gloomy, ancient riverbed ahead, the area illuminated by his flint and steel revealed densely packed, decaying white bones.
The bones were not intact; it was as if countless corpses had been smashed to pieces, their skeletons jumbled together.
The entire scene had an indescribably sinister and eerie aura, like a hell made of white bones.
It was chilling, bleak, and terrifying...
When Han Yuan peered further, he could vaguely make out even more ghastly white bones deeper in the riverbed.
’Why are so many remains piled up here?’
Han Yuan frowned.
Only someone like him, who had witnessed numerous bizarre scenes, could face a ground littered with bones without panicking in the slightest.
Han Yuan crouched down to examine a decaying skull on the ground.
Judging from the skull’s condition, the person had been dead for a very, very long time. The bone itself seemed to have undergone some kind of change.
However, Han Yuan couldn’t determine exactly how long they had been dead.
But judging by the bones that covered the ground, something must have happened here a long, long time ago.
’Looks like I’ve walked into a Dragon Pool and a tiger’s den.’
’This is getting more and more interesting.’
Han Yuan smiled and stood up.
Not wanting to step on the bones, he walked slowly along the edge of the riverbed.
Soon, he discovered remnants of shattered armor plates and rusted, broken Weapons among the scattered bones...
’Could these bones have belonged to soldiers?’
Han Yuan speculated.
Just then, he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps approaching from up ahead.
Immediately after, a flicker of firelight appeared in the darkness ahead.
Along with the light came a human figure.
"Director Han?"
Hong Kui hadn’t expected to run into Han Yuan here either.
Just like Han Yuan, he had fallen from the dark tunnel above into this dry riverbed and had been exploring it alone for a long time.
When Hong Kui saw the bones littering the dry riverbed, he was still somewhat affected, becoming extremely tense.
Now that he had finally seen a companion, he was naturally overjoyed.
"So it’s Brother Hong."
"Are you alone too?"
Han Yuan’s expression, in contrast, was very calm.
"Yes... after I fell from above, it’s just been me."
"I don’t know where the others fell."
Hong Kui nodded.
"Same here."
"It seems we were both wrong... That dark tunnel did have a Restriction on it after all."
"Now that Restriction has scattered us to different parts of the riverbed."
Han Yuan analyzed.
"Right... and this riverbed is exceptionally dangerous."
"I just encountered several attacks from wild beasts."
Hong Kui’s expression was grave.
He had indeed just endured several attacks. If he hadn’t been careful and cautious enough, he might not have lived to see Han Yuan.
"Mhm, I ran into one too."
"But that one was pretty clever."
"It took a punch from me and ran right off."
Han Yuan said softly.
"So what do we do next?"
Hong Kui asked.
"First, we have to find the others. We’ll figure it out from there."
For the time being, Han Yuan couldn’t get a grasp on the situation here either.
This underground river was simply too mysterious and ancient.
"Alright."
Hong Kui agreed.
And so, the two of them journeyed together, walking through the underground riverbed.
"Look out!"
Suddenly, Hong Kui shouted!
His shout instantly shattered the dead silence of the gloomy riverbed.
"What is it?"
Han Yuan’s expression changed.
"I just saw a black shadow flash by up ahead!"
Hong Kui said hurriedly.
Han Yuan frowned deeply, raising his flint and steel toward the distance ahead.
All he could see ahead was gloomy darkness and a field of white bones; there was no black shadow to be seen.
Just then, a bizarre smile appeared on Hong Kui’s face. The nails on his right hand grew wildly as he viciously stabbed at Han Yuan’s back.
