BAM!
Han Yuan suddenly spun around, savagely and brutally smashing an iron elbow into Hong Kui’s head.
Hong Kui let out a bloodcurdling scream, then dissipated into a wisp of black smoke.
’It doesn’t even have a shadow... and it still tried to ambush me...’
Han Yuan shook his head slightly.
From the moment Hong Kui had appeared, he had sensed something was off about the guy.
In an environment like this, it was perfectly normal for Evil Spirits to spawn.
Han Yuan wasn’t surprised.
After dealing with the Evil Spirit impersonating Hong Kui, he walked for another ten or so li.
During this time, the white bones on the ground finally began to thin out, becoming less dense than before.
However, Han Yuan soon discovered that the underground riverbed had split into numerous tributaries, branching off in different directions.
After some thought, Han Yuan decided not to explore these tributaries and instead continued along the main riverbed.
’Exploring these tributaries would be a waste of time. I might even get lost. It’s not worth the risk.’
Just as Han Yuan was continuing forward, he suddenly heard a cry for help!
"Help me!"
A figure suddenly dashed out from a tributary to Han Yuan’s left.
Han Yuan took one look and saw that it was none other than Ding Zihu.
But the man’s hair was disheveled, and he looked utterly wretched.
However, when Ding Zihu saw Han Yuan, a look of immense joy immediately appeared on his face. "Han Yuan, quick!"
"There’s a monster chasing me!"
Han Yuan glanced at him and asked coolly, "When was the first time we met?"
"At the entrance to Sanling Village!"
"I’m not an Evil Spirit!"
Ding Zihu, of course, knew why Han Yuan was asking this.
"Just to be safe."
"Where is it?"
Han Yuan asked.
"It’s coming!" Ding Zihu said, his voice trembling.
RUMBLE!!!
The tributary tunnel began to shake as if some colossal beast was about to burst out from within.
Ding Zihu was so scared he hid behind Han Yuan.
Han Yuan, however, stared calmly at the tributary’s exit.
The next moment, a Dark Cyan Lizard shot out of the dark tributary.
The Dark Cyan Lizard had emerged with a ferocious momentum, as if ready to trample everything in its path.
But upon seeing Han Yuan, it was as if it had seen something terrifying. It screeched to a halt and immediately tried to flee.
"Well, well, look who it is. I let you get away last time."
"Let’s see you run this time!"
Han Yuan grinned when he saw the Dark Cyan Lizard.
There was still a bloody fist print on its forehead.
It was the very same one he had driven off earlier!
Han Yuan tossed the flint and steel in his hand to Ding Zihu and stomped his feet.
BOOM!
He left two deep footprints in the ground as his body shot forward like an arrow released from a bow. He grabbed the Dark Cyan Lizard leader’s tail with both hands and began smashing it against the ground.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!!
Again and again.
The entire underground riverbed shook violently, as if an earthquake had struck.
Watching this from a distance, Ding Zihu’s scalp tingled with fear.
It was too brutal!
The Dark Cyan Lizard leader struggled frantically.
But after being slammed more than ten times, its consciousness began to fade, and it gradually stopped resisting.
SPLAT~~~
Finally, Han Yuan smashed the Dark Cyan Lizard’s head open on the ground, splattering its brains everywhere.
"I let you escape once before."
"A shame you didn’t take your chance."
Han Yuan said coolly.
"Brother Han, you’re amazing~!"
Ding Zihu hurried over, giving him a thumbs-up.
"Spare me the flattery..."
"Have you found anything in this dried-up riverbed?"
Han Yuan asked.
"Not yet..." Ding Zihu shook his head.
"Then figure out where we go from here," Han Yuan said flatly.
When it came to finding the way, he admitted that he was no match for Ding Zihu.
Ding Zihu took out a Compass, studied it for a moment, and said, "We should keep going forward... The Energy readings seem stronger ahead."
Han Yuan nodded.
The two continued to follow the main riverbed.
This time, they didn’t have to walk for long before they were stunned to find that the dried-up riverbed had come to an end.
They seemed to have walked into a vast, empty cavern inside a mountain.
"What’s that?"
Han Yuan asked in surprise.
By the light of the flame, he could faintly make out some dark silhouettes in the distance.
"They look like the outlines of buildings."
Ding Zihu’s eyes widened.
But he wasn’t sure either.
"Let’s go take a look first."
Han Yuan said in a low voice.
Ding Zihu nodded and carefully followed behind Han Yuan.
After walking for a few li, they were finally able to see what the silhouettes were.
It was a dark, dilapidated, ancient city in ruins!
However, it seemed some great catastrophe had befallen the city. More than half of the city walls had collapsed, and most of the buildings within were reduced to ash and rubble.
"There’s an ancient city hidden beneath this Cave Mansion!"
Ding Zihu was utterly horrified.
He had originally thought this place was just a Cave Mansion.
Judging from the current situation, his assumption couldn’t have been more wrong.
This place most likely held some earth-shattering secret.
’This ancient city... When exactly did it exist?’
The question also arose in Han Yuan’s mind.
"Let’s go inside and see... If we can find any writing, I might be able to identify it."
Ding Zihu said seriously.
He seemed to have developed a great interest in this ancient city.
"Be careful... I’m afraid this ancient city might be hiding something."
Han Yuan warned.
A place this mysterious and ancient... who knows what’s here.
"But I’ve still got you, don’t I?" Ding Zihu grinned.
"Then let’s go," Han Yuan said in a low voice.
The two cautiously entered the dilapidated ancient city, immediately feeling an aura of dark, ancient history permeating the air.
Most of the houses had already collapsed into rubble, so they could only search for intact ancient buildings.
They walked cautiously through the ruined city.
After walking for a while, they finally saw a relatively intact building.
It was a house built from stacked stones, its design simple and archaic.
Ding Zihu, however, looked as if he had discovered a new continent. He took the flint and steel and carefully approached the stone house to observe it.
"Brother Han, look at these runes."
Ding Zihu said excitedly.
Han Yuan narrowed his eyes.
He saw that the surfaces of the stones making up the house were all engraved with ancient, mysterious runes.
"These runes are actually characters from the Chaotic Ancient Era. They mean ’peace’ or ’tranquility’."
Ding Zihu explained.
"You can actually read the script of the Chaotic Ancient Era?"
Hearing this, Han Yuan was stunned.
He had searched all of Cangshui County and hadn’t found a single book about the Chaotic Ancient Era.
"I know a little..." Ding Zihu said with a smile.
Han Yuan gave Ding Zihu a meaningful look but didn’t press the matter.
He returned to the topic. "So, you’re saying this stone house is a building from the Chaotic Ancient Era?"
"It should be... In other words, this whole ancient city is a relic left over from the Chaotic Ancient Era."
"This is an incredible discovery."
Ding Zihu said excitedly.
You have to understand, in the entire Great Ling Dynasty, there are currently no confirmed ruins from the Chaotic Ancient Era.
If this discovery were to be confirmed, it would surely shake the entire Great Ling Dynasty.
"Don’t get ahead of yourself."
"Let’s first figure out how to get out of here safely."
Han Yuan threw a bucket of cold water on Ding Zihu’s excitement.
"You’re right... We need to be able to leave first."
Ding Zihu nodded.
Although the Spiritual Qi Storm was still raging outside, he agreed with Han Yuan. No matter what, they had to find a way out first.
They could wait for the Spiritual Qi Storm to subside before actually leaving.
Otherwise, if the Spiritual Qi Storm ended and they still hadn’t found a way out, they would be well and truly finished.
"Let’s check other places."
Han Yuan looked around and said in a low voice.
This dark, ruined city was quite large, probably even larger than Cangshui County Town.
It would likely take a considerable amount of time to explore the entire place.
The two continued to investigate the ruined city, searching for clues.
Ding Zihu soon found similar runes on another building.
He grew more and more certain.
This ancient city was definitely a remnant from the Chaotic Ancient Era.
"AHHH!!!"
Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream came from not far away.
