"Kekekeke!"

Eerie laughter rolled across the sky, and the light dimmed as though a curtain had been drawn across the sun.

Eric, Rude, and Caesar shot to their feet and drew their weapons.

"C-Could it be..."

"He actually chased us all the way here..."

Ethan followed their gaze.

"Hehehe... So you were hiding here?"

A skeleton mage in tattered robes was walking toward them, two clusters of red flame burned in its eye sockets.

The sudden appearance of the undead caught the elves off guard, they all looked at Ethan, only to see him standing there, expressionless.

"Run!"

"We’ll hold him off — you go quickly!"

"He’s coming for us..."

"Hm? A human?" The Lich’s red gaze fell upon Ethan.

"There’s actually a human still alive?"

Ethan bowed slightly. "Hello."

"Hehehe... What luck, to actually encounter a human — said to have vanished from legend — and three elves to boot, what an unexpected harvest."

The Lich stroked his chin, clearly satisfied with the haul.

Eric gritted his teeth. "Damn it, it’s our fault for dragging Ethan into this..."

Ethan had saved their lives, yet they had brought trouble right to his doorstep.

The guilt was crushing, even as a noble, he couldn’t cause harm to his benefactor, that was a disgrace to the name, he had to protect Ethan, no matter the cost.

Eric clenched his fists, making up his mind, his companions, Rude and Caesar, were also ready for battle, they set their stances beside him.

All three had decided, they would fight to the death to protect Ethan.

"Hmph, so you aren’t planning to scurry away like rats this time?" The Lich laughed.

"If you knew this would happen, why resist in the first place? Wouldn’t it be better to obediently become my collectibles?"

"Collectibles?" Ethan asked.

"That’s right, I’m going to turn these elves into undead knights and expand my sphere of influence in the cursed lands."

The Lich seemed to have no intention of hiding his plan, he spoke casually, then raised his hand.

His shadow rapidly expanded, and countless black figures crawled out from within it.

"That’s..."

"Shadow Fiends...!"

Summoning undead usually required corpses, but a Lich was a high-level undead, he possessed immense power and could use shadows alone to create them from nothing.

"Ethan!!"

"Run away!"

"Go quickly!!"

Seeing the Shadow Fiends swarming out, Eric, Rude, and Caesar shouted and charged.

They brandished their weapons and tore into the horde.

"Haaah!!"

Sword light flashed, the Shadow Fiends turned to black smoke and dissipated one after another.

"This... my sword feels lighter?!" Eric said in surprise.

It was different from their last battle, last time, facing the undead controlled by the Lich, the fight had been incredibly grueling, but this time, the combat felt much easier.

Eric, Rude, and Caesar slaughtered the Shadow Fiends with ease, surprising even the Lich, their strength was much greater than last time.

The Lich gnashed his teeth. ’Could fighting desperately have stimulated their potential?’

But Eric knew the real reason, his gaze fell upon Ethan, compared to last time, the only difference was that they had eaten the meal he prepared, to think that Ethan’s cooking actually had such miraculous effects.

Overjoyed, Eric attacked the Lich even more fiercely.

"Yaaah!!"

He swung his blade and stabbed the Lich right in the chest, last time, he couldn’t even cut through the Lich’s robes.

This time, he actually managed to wound him.

The Lich realized that if this continued, he might actually lose, he swung his staff, repelling Eric, and then flew into the air, he didn’t continue fighting Eric and the others directly, instead, he began chanting an incantation to summon more undead.

"Ugh...!"

With the Lich at the center, a massive shadow appeared on the ground, countless Shadow Fiends poured out from the shadow, completely surrounding the three elves, although they were still holding on, if this kept up, their stamina would sooner or later be drained completely.

Seeing this, Ethan spoke up. "Stop."

"Hm? Haha, human, just wait, once I finish off these elves, I’ll—"

Before the Lich could finish his sentence, Ethan raised his scythe.

The Scythe of Gaia seemed to sense its master’s danger and had already transformed into its massive combat form.

"T-That’s?! Damned Gaia..." the Lich exclaimed.

"Wrath of the Earth," Ethan said softly.

During combat, the scythe changed its form and could also unleash this technique, Ethan recalled the description of the Scythe of Gaia and released its power.

Rumble!!

The earth shook, massive fissures cracked open across the ground, as if the land itself were furious.

Crack, crack, crack!!

Countless sharp stone spears thrust up from beneath the earth, piercing toward the Shadow Fiends, impaled by the stone spears, they turned to black smoke and vanished, one after another.

Hundreds of Shadow Fiends, annihilated without putting up any resistance, the Lich roared.

"Damned Gaia...!!!"

But his fury could not stop the Wrath of the Earth, on the contrary, the attack grew even more intense. Stone spears launched themselves toward the Lich.

"Haaah!!"

The Lich gathered a mass of black energy in his hands and prepared to counter with magic.

A massive black fireball flew at the stone spears, black lightning crackled, trying to block them, currents of black water surged forth, attempting to bind them.

All in vain.

No magic, no resistance could stop the Wrath of the Earth.

"This..." Eric and the others were completely stunned.

Crunch!!

A stone spear pierced through the Lich’s body, he let out an agonized groan.

"W-When did you—?!"

Ethan had already arrived right in front of him, in his hand, he grasped the Blade of the Holy Elf.

The holy sword of the elf tribe.

"You..."

The Lich looked at Ethan in astonishment, before he even had time to speak, the holy sword swung down.

A clean, decisive strike.
