"How about it? Not bad, right?"
"Really good. Please pass my thanks to Eric."
"Haha, I’ll let him know, oh, Eric couldn’t come to see you this time, he’s been grounded by his family."
It seemed his little escape into the Great Forest had made the elders furious, they had punished him and restricted his freedom on top of it.
"That’s a pity, I wanted to thank him in person."
"Do you have anything else you want me to pass on?"
"No, but you can give him this."
Ethan brought out a piece of pottery he had made earlier, an exquisitely shaped white ceramic vase that caught the sunlight with a soft luster, and handed it to Leon.
"Speaking of which, your pottery has been very popular in elven noble circles," Leon said, taking the vase with a smile.
"Is that so? That’s great," Ethan said.
"Many elven nobles are interested in you and hope to meet you, whenever you have some free time, you should visit the Elven Kingdom as a guest," Leon offered.
’The Elven Kingdom?’
Ethan had always wanted to see it, there had to be plants there he had never encountered.
"Sure, if I get the chance, I’ll visit."
"Haha, wonderful!" Leon laughed.
"Alright, I should get going."
He loaded his goods onto the handcart and left, a bit reluctantly, it seemed.
"Alright, time to make Candied Honey Sweet Potatoes," Ethan said to Pearl.
"Meow~! We also need to prepare lunch, meow!"
"Then let’s just have the candied sweet potatoes for lunch," Ethan said with a smile.
He patted Pearl’s head and got to work, with the Cauldron of Blessing, he turned out dozens of plates in short order, into the Exchange Box they went, and back came dozens of Sun Stones.
"With these Sun Stones and the greenhouse, we should be able to grow southern fruits." He held the stones up, feeling confident.
"If it’s not enough, we can just make more Candied Honey Sweet Potatoes to exchange, meow," Pearl said.
"You’re right, the question is how to build the greenhouse."
He already had hundreds of glass panes, he just needed to make the window frames, Ethan knew the process, and with his crafting skills it should go fast.
"Hey! Are you done trading?"
Zharok’s voice drifted over from the trees.
"Yeah, already done," Ethan called back.
Zharok jogged over, a large leather sack slung across his back, he spotted the glass and snatched up a pane, turning it in his claws.
"Oh? Is this glass? Let me see... Wow, sturdy and light, the mages from Leon’s family made this, right?"
"That’s right, with this, I can build the greenhouse."
"You’re going to build a greenhouse? Then when are we setting off?"
"After the greenhouse is built."
"What? We still have to wait that long?" Zharok’s tail twitched with displeasure.
"What happens to this place while we’re gone? What if beasts or monsters come to cause trouble?"
"You don’t have to worry about that, I will handle it."
A deep voice came from behind, Ethan and Zharok turned to find Walter.
He walked forward, raised one hand in a small gesture, and two Blood Jade Beasts materialized in the air, standing at attention behind him.
"I’ll leave my Blood Jade Beasts here for guard duty and patrols, take your Blood Jade Beast south with you, the dangers there are unknown, so bring it just in case."
"Thank you," Ethan said.
"No need, just come back safely."
Walter’s motives were transparent, without Ethan, his supply of morning tomato juice dried up, and he had no intention of going back to a life without it.
"I actually wanted to go along as well, but..." Walter trailed off with a note of regret.
"Rest assured! With the great and powerful Zharok here, I guarantee nothing will happen to him," Zharok said, thumping his chest.
"You? I’m more worried you’ll make things worse and cause trouble for Ethan," Walter shot back.
"Hey! What are you—"
"Alright, alright, knock it off." Ethan stepped between them.
"I’ll set off tomorrow, minotaur village first, then straight south."
"I’ll go back and prepare today, we’ll gather here tomorrow morning." Zharok turned and hurried off.
"I should take my leave as well, today’s tomato juice was as delicious as ever." Walter finished his last sip with a refined nod and stood to go.
Ethan watched them both disappear, stretched, and stepped outside.
The afternoon sun sat warm on his shoulders, still plenty of daylight left.
"Time to start working."
He picked Pearl up, set it on his shoulder, and headed for the fields.
On the day of departure, Ethan packed his luggage piece by piece into gunny sacks and secured them onto the handcart, last of all, he picked up the Blade of the Holy Elf.
"Meow? Why are you bringing the sword?" Pearl tilted its head.
"Zharok said we wouldn’t encounter danger, but we should be prepared for anything."
He stowed the blade carefully, even with Zharok as a bodyguard, he couldn’t hand his safety entirely to someone else. That was just who he was.
"Meow? Do you know how to use a sword?" Pearl asked.
"Of course I do, and I’m very good at it." Ethan raised his eyebrows.
"Oh? Then how about we spar sometime?"
Zharok had appeared out of nowhere, claws out, their edges glinting in the sunlight, he had seen Ethan kill a monster with a single strike once, the memory still itched.
But Ethan had long since moved past the need to prove himself.
"No thanks, I have no interest in sparring, I’m a farmer, not a swordsman." He waved a hand and turned away.
"What a buzzkill." Zharok deflated for a moment, then bounced right back.
"So, everything packed?"
"Yeah, everything’s ready."
Ethan loaded their road food and water onto the handcart, preparations were complete.
Walter watched them from the side, reluctance plain on his face, he let out a sigh.
"What a pity, I won’t be able to drink Moonlight Tomato juice for quite some time."
