Chapter 296: 296:A huge feeling.

Ravenna smiled. Perhaps he was right, the further they travelled, the more developed the Green Zone became. There were farms, small settlements,roadside stations,commercial buildings,and a large signs advertising research centres.

She even saw a group of children playing in an enclosed field while their parents watched from nearby. Ravenna slowed her breathing. It was strange to see people living normally. She had become so accustomed to danger that ordinary life almost seemed unreal.

Then Antony suddenly spoke.

"Look."

Ravenna turned toward him. He pointed ahead. At first, she couldn’t see what he meant, then she noticed something. Far beyond the trees, a dark line stretched across the horizon.

At first, Ravenna thought it was a mountain range but it was too straight and massive.

She narrowed her eyes.

"What is that?"

Antony smiled.

"Alpha Three."

Ravenna’s eyes widened. She sat upright.

"That’s Alpha Three?"

"Part of it."

She stared through the windshield. The structures were still extremely far away, yet she could already see the enormous walls surrounding portions of the sanctuary.

Towers rose above them. Some were so tall they appeared to disappear into the sky. There were countless structures behind the walls. The distant skyline seemed almost endless.

Ravenna’s mouth opened slightly.

"We can see it from here."

"Apparently."

"How far away are we?"

"Still a while."

She stared.

"That’s enormous."

Antony laughed.

"You haven’t even seen the gates yet."

Ravenna looked at him.

"The gates are bigger?"

"You’ll see, I’ve seen the pictures."

She turned back toward the horizon.

The closer they came, the more visible Alpha Three became. It was difficult to describe the scale. The sanctuary seemed less like a city and more like an entire civilization enclosed behind walls.

The distant defensive structures were enormous. Even from this distance, Ravenna could see what appeared to be multiple layers of walls.

Aircraft moved through the sky above the sanctuary; some were civilian planes while others were smaller military or Contractor craft.

She watched one aircraft disappear behind a tower.

"How many people live there?"

"Millions, probably."

"Millions?"

"Alpha Three is the largest sanctuary under our Delta system."

Ravenna nodded slowly.

She had knew that before but learning about it was different from seeing it. This was where the main Association headquarters were located.

Where the largest research facilities operated. Where some of the most powerful Contractors gathered. Where the academy was located.

And somewhere inside that enormous sanctuary was Mallory.

Ravenna remembered her maid. She hadn’t spoken to her since leaving Delta four. Mallory had been sent ahead to secure their accommodation because the academy admission period was approaching.

Ravenna wondered whether she had managed to find somewhere suitable.

She smiled faintly.

"At least Mallory will be happy to see us."

Antony nodded then turned to her.

"Who is that again?"

Ravenna looked at him.

"My maid. We sent her before us to secure accommodations."

"Then she’ll probably be happy to see you. You two really thought far ahead."

"Yeah, it was better that way since we were planning on training"

"Hope she’ll like me. Do you think she’ll assume you dumped Silver and picked me."

Ravenna narrowed her eyes, glaring at him.

"No, she knows I won’t leave him for the world."

"That’s so cheesy. Do people in love talk like that, you’re kind of discouraging me."

Ravenna punched him lightly on the shoulder. Antony laughed.

"You’re going to cause an accident."

The road ahead became increasingly crowded as more vehicles appeared. Soon, they were surrounded by traffic.

Ravenna looked around in surprise.

"There are even more people."

Antony sighed.

"That’s Alpha Three for you."

The convoy slowed.

Several lanes of traffic merged ahead of them. Large signs indicated different entrances into the sanctuary.

Commercial vehicles were being directed toward one side. Private vehicles toward another. Contractor convoys had their own lanes. There were even dedicated routes for aircraft transport vehicles and military units.

Ravenna looked toward the massive walls. The closer they came, the more overwhelming the scale became. She could now see the enormous gates. They were so large that several vehicles could pass through simultaneously.

Towers stood on either side. Weapons were mounted along the walls and barrier systems hummed faintly in the distance.

Ravenna stared.

"So this is Alpha Three, I can’t believe it."

Antony smiled.

"Welcome."

The convoy slowly joined the traffic leading toward the gates. Ravenna looked down at the tracker one last time.

Her expression fell.

She closed her hand around it her heart still aching.

The massive gates of Alpha Three drew closer with every passing minute. Ravenna felt as though she was finally approaching the place where she could actually do something.

She just hoped she wasn’t too late. Ravenna stared through the windshield.

"That’s just the entrance?"

Antony nodded.

"Apparently."

"How long do you think the wall is?"

"Don’t ask me."

"You don’t know?"

"I know enough to understand that I’d get tired before I reached the other side."

Ravenna continued staring.

The road ahead had become a sea of vehicles. Cars filled almost every lane, trucks crawled forward under the weight of their cargo, and Contractor vehicles bearing different insignias moved between the civilian traffic.

There were buses packed with people, large transporters carrying supplies, and heavily armored vehicles that looked as though they belonged to military organizations.

The closer they got to the gates, the slower everything became. Eventually, the convoy nearly stopped.

Antony leaned back in his seat.

"Traffic jam."

Ravenna looked ahead.

"Here?"

"Where else would there be one?"

"Alpha Three."

"Exactly."

She sighed.

They had travelled through Red Zones, fought dangerous beasts, survived Death Row Valley, and somehow the thing slowing them down was traffic. Ravenna couldn’t help finding that almost funny.

She looked toward the sky.

A passenger plane was descending toward the sanctuary, its massive body passing above the outer wall before disappearing behind the distant buildings.

Another aircraft followed several minutes later. There were even smaller vehicles moving through designated air lanes. It was a foreign and fascinating sight.
