Chapter 460: Chapter 459: Simple Battle
For the next while, Albert didn’t say much.
He kept looking around curiously, occasionally turning back to check the cargo on the wagon, fascinated by everything around him.
Colin couldn’t be bothered to disturb him, focusing instead on tinkering with the lenses.
An unknown amount of time passed.
Once he felt it was just right, Colin took out his Spellbook, cast another Spell on the lens, and then glued it to the inside of the Helmet’s eye slit.
Colin carefully examined the Helmet he had modified.
[Night Vision Dog-faced Helmet/Ordinary-Level Magic Item]
[Darkvision: When you equip this item, you gain Darkvision with a thirty-meter range.]
The Darkvision range had doubled. The modification was a success.
Colin could craft other pieces of equipment as well, but he’d have to spend money on materials.
Money, money, money...
Colin sighed. ’It feels like the moment I get some downtime, everything starts revolving around money. You really can’t get anything done without it.’
Before he knew it, his mindset had reverted to how it was when he first left the city—he was actually hoping they’d run into more monsters on the road.
Time passed slowly, and the scenery gave way to hills strewn with gravel and rock.
Kase, riding in the rear wagon, suddenly shouted to the front, "There’s a group of goblins watching us from the front left! What’s the plan?"
Hearing this, a murmur of discussion spread through the caravan.
Colin looked up in the direction Kase had indicated.
All he could see were bare hills and rocks; there was no sign of any goblins. Still, he knew Kase wouldn’t joke about something like this.
"It shouldn’t be a problem!" Colin shouted to the others. "Unless several hundred goblins swarm us at once, we’re in no real danger."
He jumped off the wagon, pulling on his Helmet as he went, and fell into step behind it.
A moment later, a rustling sound started up all around them, just as expected.
*"Booyahg! Booyahg!"*
A series of sharp cries broke the silence, and Colin looked up.
A horde of goblins was charging out from between the rocks.
Some of them wore ill-fitting Leather Armor, and their weapons were forged from steel. It was clear at a glance that they belonged to a sizable tribe.
The lead goblin stood on a rock, raising its Magic Staff and screeching.
As it shrieked in the hoarse, grating Goblin Language, tendrils of Flame gathered from all directions, converging on the short staff of the goblin Mage.
"Dammit, that goblin can use Magic!"
An alarmed cry came from someone in the caravan.
Albert, who had been sitting next to Colin, scrambled off the wagon. He fumbled to draw the Armed Sword at his waist and unhooked a Kite Shield from his large backpack.
Colin turned to look at the goblin Caster.
He took a deep breath and raised his left hand.
The goblin’s Casting was incredibly crude; any proper Mage could spot the flaws at a glance.
Colin snapped his fingers. The invisible Magic Net beside him immediately twisted and gathered, surging toward the goblin. The Flame coalescing above its Magic Staff instantly dispersed, dissolving into a few fading sparks.
From the rear, Ale raised her Magic Staff. The White Frost heart affixed to its tip bloomed with golden light.
A ball of fire shot directly toward the goblin Caster, blasting it and the several guards around it to smithereens.
Kase leaped from the rear wagon.
He kept low behind his Large Shield and charged forward. His two-meter-tall frame and bulging muscles were unstoppable. The goblins were like weeds, mowed down by the Half-Orc.
The small creatures couldn’t even withstand a single impact. They could do nothing but shriek and try to dodge, which only served to obstruct their comrades behind them.
Kase alone threw the goblins’ offensive on the caravan’s left flank into utter chaos.
Dorn, in the rear wagon, climbed atop the cargo. His hands became a blur as his silver Spiritual Daggers flashed, picking off the stragglers who slipped past Kase’s charge one by one.
Thanks to Ale’s Fireball Technique, the goblins on the right flank were too scared to charge. They hid in the crevices between the rocks, their shifty eyes peeking out tentatively.
Orelia, in the wagon ahead of Colin, raised her Holy Emblem high.
As she recited her prayers, a Spiritual Weapon in the form of a hovering Nail Head Hammer materialized beside her. She raised her Kite Shield and charged forward, the floating hammer at her side.
She intercepted the few goblins on the right who dared to show their faces.
Even while splitting her focus to command the Spiritual Weapon, Orelia was still able to fend off the attacks of several goblins at once.
Through long periods of training and real combat, the Priest who was once unskilled in melee had become more than capable of holding her own.
Standing on the wagon, Ale raised her Magic Staff again.
A terrifyingly cold wind swept forth, instantly freezing the few goblins who had dared to charge out.
At the same time, Colin flipped open his Spellbook and began to chant a Spell.
He held out his palm, aiming at a rocky crevice where several goblins were gathered.
The sound of Shatter instantly erupted. The intense vibrations pulverized the massive, bare boulder, along with the goblins hiding behind it.
Under the constant barrage of Magic, all the goblins began to cower.
Any intelligent creature would react this way after witnessing two Casters unleash a magical bombardment, especially goblins, who were known for being selfish and cunning.
Just then, several Poison Arrows flew toward them.
The Arrows glanced off Colin’s Armor with a series of CLANGS, failing to cause any real Damage.
The goblins seemed to be deliberately targeting the Casters. Ale, who was not far off, was also attacked, but a few Arrows were nothing to a Dragon Vein Mage, whose body was exceptionally sturdy and protected by Dragon Scales.
Colin looked in the direction the Poison Arrows had come from.
There were a few more Goblin Warriors in Leather Armor over there; they were likely high-caste goblins.
’It looks like routing these guys just needs a final push.’
Colin immediately began Spellcasting. The pages of his Spellbook flipped over once more as he slowly raised his hand. A large glob of acid was drawn from the pages, hovering in midair.
With a wave of his arm, the thirty-centimeter-diameter Acidic Liquid Ball flew over the rock crevice and instantly exploded.
The acid rapidly expanded and sprayed in all directions. White smoke billowed from the rock face in a seven-meter radius, and most of the goblins hiding behind the rocks collapsed, wailing, into the crevices.
The rest began to scream and scatter in every direction.
However, they hadn’t taken more than a few steps before the acid-splashed parts of their bodies began to rapidly dissolve. Not even the bones beneath their skin were spared. In moments, the unlucky creatures collapsed to the ground.
*"Blee-yah! Blee-yah!"*
Witnessing this horrifying sight, all the remaining goblins shrieked and fled back the way they came, disappearing in moments among the countless crevices in the hills.
Colin glanced down at his palm.
’Tier Four Magic... not bad at all.’
