I Have a Task Log

Chapter 461 - 460: Goblin’s Pocket

Chapter 461: Chapter 460: Goblin’s Pocket

Bob watched the fleeing goblins and said in surprise, "Just like that... it’s over?"

The carriage drivers and the Guards in the convoy had pretty much the same expression.

Everyone knew that a horde of goblins was hardly a threat to the Adventurers who had slain a dragon.

But what most people in the convoy hadn’t expected was how utterly defenseless the goblins were against these Adventurers. They were mowed down as easily as a farmer harvesting wheat.

Over a hundred goblins and a goblin Mage had been completely incapable of fighting back. A force of that size could normally wipe out an entire, well-guarded convoy.

"Twenty! I got twenty of ’em!"

Kase brandished his Shield, shouting at Dorn, "How many did you get, shorty?!"

Dorn finished off a goblin playing dead on the ground with a backhanded flick of his Dagger. "I’m an expert at dealing with tough opponents, not a bunch of stupid monkeys!"

"Anyone know how many I got?" Colin asked.

"Give it a rest, Colin." "Nobody wants to compete with you!" the two, who had just been arguing, said in unison.

As the group chatted, the others slowly snapped out of their daze.

"That’s what the heroes of Thousand Masts City look like!" "Nicely done!"

The carriage drivers grinned, shouting their thanks to Colin and the others.

Standing to the side, Albert put away his weapon, looking somewhat disappointed.

He had been guarding the convoy and barely got to fight any goblins at all.

The convoy Guards were in a similar position. Few goblins had dared to charge them, and the ones that did were all dealt with by Colin and his companions.

Albert said as he put his weapon away, "You have a lot of practical combat experience, Colin. You’re very skilled with Counterspell."

"Practice makes perfect is all."

Colin noticed the other man’s hand was still shaking. He couldn’t tell if it was from excitement or some other reason. ’He couldn’t possibly be Cursed by one of the Gods, too, could he?’

Bob, who was driving the carriage, glanced back at Ale sitting behind him. He swallowed hard and asked, "Can we get going now?"

"Hold on. Let’s see if these goblins have anything valuable on them," Colin said, hopping down from the carriage and walking toward the corpses. Kase and the others had already started looting the battlefield.

Colin first ran over to the goblin Caster’s body to take a look.

There was almost nothing on the ground, just the goblin’s charred remains scattered everywhere. In the end, he only found a single Silver Coin, blackened by the blast.

When he looked up, he saw Albert wandering around the battlefield.

The young noble was enthusiastically picking the goblins’ pockets. He noticed Colin’s gaze and said, "Don’t worry, I won’t be taking a share of the loot."

’That’s not what I’m worried about.’ Colin swallowed the rest of his sentence. He just thought it was strange to see a nobleman looting a goblin.

About half an hour later, they had finished clearing the battlefield.

However, since this was a goblin raiding party out for plunder, they didn’t have many valuables. The first wave to charge had consisted of low-caste goblins who were likely forced into it.

In cash, they only found scattered Silver Coins and Copper Coins, which in total amounted to about one hundred thirty Gold Coins, plus some loose change.

Then there were some Short Bows, Short Spears, and Beast Hide Armor, plus a few rusty copper rings and a small, shabby-looking piece of Dog Head Gold—a naturally occurring, low-purity form of Gold.

All told, these items should sell for over three hundred Gold Coins.

That meant everyone would get a share of over sixty Gold Coins, which was a nice little profit.

With Big Hoof Treasure around, no one had to carry the loot that wouldn’t fit in the Dimension Bag, which made life a lot easier for the whole team.

It was also worth noting that a goblin warband of this size wouldn’t normally be found near the trade routes. It was possible that the strict controls in Thousand Masts City a while back had starved them out.

Once the Griffin Knights withdrew, these creatures had eagerly come up to the Surface. You could only say they had some really bad luck, running straight into Colin and his group.

After packing everything away, Colin and the others climbed back into the carriage.

Colin said to Bob, "We can go now."

The driver was still staring blankly at the goblin corpses. He snapped out of it when Colin spoke, gave a quick "Right, right," and cracked his whip again, setting the carriage in motion.

After that little incident, they encountered no more attacks on the road.

Of course, you couldn’t blame the Griffin Knights for the appearance of the goblins. There was a reason the goblins around Flint Village had never been completely eradicated over the past decades.

After all, as long as they had the Underworld to retreat to, it was nearly impossible to get rid of the little cockroach-like creatures.

The carriage continued on and eventually arrived in Flint Village.

The village looked just as it always had, completely unchanged.

From a distance, Colin spotted the tavern that was using him for advertising.

The two Wolf Hides at the tavern’s entrance had been replaced with a large wooden plank, which boldly proclaimed: "The Dragon Slayer Team’s Favorite."

"Do you all want to eat at the tavern?" Bob asked, looking back.

"Let’s get some more Treasure Stew," Colin sighed. "That owner is certainly a sharp one."

The carriage then pulled into the tavern’s courtyard and came to a stop.

Once everyone was out of the carriage, Colin led the others inside.

Whether it was because of the advertisement out front or for some other reason, business inside the tavern had indeed improved quite a bit.

The moment the owner saw Colin, he bellowed, "The Dragon Slayer! The Dragon Slayer is here!"

The patrons in the tavern immediately looked over. It was unclear who shouted first, but soon everyone was cheering and applauding. Then, as if on cue, they all raised their mugs and GULP, GULP, drained their beer.

Colin gave the patrons an awkward wave, then turned to the owner. "We’ll have the Treasure Stew."

"Right away! The same Treasure Stew you had before! The Treasure Stew that’s as good as a Healing Potion!" the owner bellowed in reply. "You hear me? Get the Treasure Stew ready, you damned lazy oaf! Don’t keep our hero waiting!"

Colin didn’t dwell on the embarrassing display, instead leading the others to a table in the corner of the tavern.

While they waited for their food, he said, "Next, we’ll follow the main road to Moss Stone Village, then continue all the way to the North, heading for Weston Castle."

"We’re going to Wolf Castle, in the northwest," Albert said.

Colin rubbed his forehead.

Weston Castle was located in the heart of the Weston Clan’s lands; it was their ancestral fortress. Wolf Castle, on the other hand, was a border fortress. Anyone could see that going to Weston Castle would be much safer.

Colin couldn’t help but ask, "I’ll be blunt. Why, exactly, did you hire us to go to the North with you?"
