Chapter 462: Chapter 461: Changing the Subject
"Do you remember the first time we met?" Albert smiled.
Colin replied, "I do, but I still don’t know why."
"Because I find it interesting, Colin. I’m very interested in this whole adventuring business."
"’Interest’? That’s a cruel word for it," Dorn said from the side. "Countless people die every year for what you call ’interest.’ Most of them are just unlucky souls with no other choice."
"He’s not wrong," Colin said. "If I were you, I’d train my combat Skills to their absolute limit in my own castle. Then, if I was still interested, I’d go out adventuring."
Albert didn’t respond, changing the subject instead. "If you don’t mind, I hope you’ll take on other jobs along the way, just like you normally would. I want to experience the life of an Adventurer. Speaking of which, can I join your battles?"
Hearing this, Colin suddenly had the urge to pry open Albert’s skull and see what was inside.
’I’ll never understand the way these rich kids think, not in this lifetime or the next.’
Colin asked, "Speaking of which, what’s your combat style?"
"I don’t have the aptitude to be a Warrior, so I paid to hire an Arcane Knight who taught me some techniques for Casting while wearing Armor," Albert said. "But my Casting Ability is nothing compared to yours. I can only cast Tier Two Magic, and I have almost no practical combat experience."
"I’ve read that wearing Heavy Armor severely restricts an Arcane Knight’s Casting Ability," Colin said. "The fact that you can manage that is already impressive."
Albert asked expectantly, "So, can I join your battles?"
Seeing how insistent he was, Colin felt conflicted.
Albert had helped them a great deal. Fulfilling this small request, as long as they could control the situation, shouldn’t be a problem.
But on the other hand, it was precisely because Albert had helped them so much that Colin would feel guilty if the young noble got even slightly injured. If any kind of accident happened in battle, Colin didn’t dare to imagine the consequences.
"Well, to ensure our fights go smoothly, I brought a little something," Albert said, pulling several potions from his backpack and placing them on the table.
A closer look revealed they were, to his surprise, ten bottles of [High-Level Healing Potion].
[High-Level Healing Potion / Non-Ordinary Level Potion]
[Upon consumption, the user will restore 8-20 Life Value.]
"Two bottles for each of you. I have other potions for my own protection. At the very least, I don’t think the Death Deity will get its hands on me so easily."
Glancing at the Potions on the table, Colin said hesitantly, "If we’re not up against anything too strange... I suppose it could work."
"In that case, I’ll be looking forward to it," Albert said with a smile.
’You might not be so excited when the time actually comes,’ Colin thought to himself.
After they finished eating, Colin and the others said goodbye to Bob.
Bob and his caravan, in turn, reported the large goblin warband they’d encountered to the local Guard, asking them to warn other traveling caravans, post a bounty, and the like.
Meanwhile, Colin’s group sold off the loot they had acquired. In the end, each member of the party received a share of just over sixty Gold Coins.
Colin was very happy to get the money.
He’d been pretty broke lately, so the more money, the better.
The group led Big Hoof Treasure to the village’s north gate.
Gazing at the road leading to the Supreme Forest, Colin took a deep breath of the dry, dusty air. "Well, folks," he said, "looks like we’re back to a real, honest-to-goodness adventure."
"The last time felt like this was when we went to that Shaman’s Hut with Spiketail," Kase said wistfully. "After that, it was all going underground this and into some forest that. So boring."
"That was a Monastery, not a Shaman’s Hut, Mr. Kase," Orelia corrected him, as insistent as ever.
Nearby, Albert took several deep breaths.
He spread his arms wide and yelled excitedly, "A real adventure! Here I come!"
「Night fell in a flash.」
As they marched on, Colin glanced at Albert, who was walking beside him, panting for breath.
The guy had fallen completely silent, looking like a different person from the man who’d set out at the start.
Even though his Armor was much lighter than ordinary Full Plate Armor thanks to its Enchantment, he was a young noble, after all. Trekking long distances through the wilderness was completely new territory for him, and this was the result.
Just then, Kase, walking at the head of the party, turned and called out, "This is a good spot over here! Come on, let’s get ready to make camp!"
Colin glanced over. It was a small cave, sheltered from the wind—a decent spot indeed.
He said to the others, "Alright, let’s make camp. Gather some firewood. Kase just took care of a few snakes, so we can have some hot soup tonight."
"Okay, Ale and I will go," Orelia said, linking arms with Ale as they walked off.
Kase returned to tether Big Hoof Treasure, while Colin and Dorn took out their companions’ sleeping bags and spread them on the ground.
While they were busy, Albert pulled a tent and a sleeping bag from his pack and set himself up in a corner of the cave.
Ale and Orelia soon returned with the dry brush and firewood they had gathered.
Colin used a [Flaming Arrow] to start the fire. Kase took out his Dagger, skinned the snakes, and then set up a pot to stew the meat.
"Wait, I have this," Albert said, taking out a small bag.
[Portable Spice Bag / Ordinary-Level Magic Item]
[Portable Spice: When opening the bag, the user may simply state the name of a desired seasoning for it to appear inside. Can be used ten times per day.]
Kase frowned. "What the hell is this thing?" he asked.
"A little something to do with Magic." Colin took the bag from him and began seasoning the snake soup, also tossing in some potatoes and chickpeas from his [Dimension Bag].
Dorn teased, "As the team’s only wilderness Survival expert with a tent, what other amazing little gadgets did you bring?"
"Oh, far too many. My backpack can hold a lot." Albert took a blanket from his pack, spread it on the ground, and then sat down carefully. "Soap, a woolen blanket... oh, and most importantly, a coffee pot that can produce ten liters of hot coffee a day. I have to say, the roast is nearly identical to what you’d get in an Ordinary coffee shop. You really should try it."
Hearing Albert rattle off such a long list, Dorn stared at Colin with wide eyes, his expression a complicated mix of emotions.
"We actually usually rely on Ale’s Magic to do our laundry," Colin said. "And we can repair our gear with Magic, too."
Albert smiled. "Well then, if we end up in a dead-magic zone or somewhere else where Magic can’t be used, won’t my soap come in handy?"
"If we end up in a place like that, being smelly will probably be the least of our worries," Kase muttered.
