Chapter 537: Chapter 537: This Is a Misunderstanding?
Ethan Kingsley: I admit it, I was blinded by lust. I mistook her for Corinne Linden and did... those things to her. I thought she was Corinne Linden, and I was drugged too. I was stupid, I admit it all.
Ethan Kingsley: Let me see her. I have to explain this to her face-to-face, or my conscience won’t be clear.
After reading his explanation, Claire Sinclair thought the man was hopeless and sent a cold reply: Only someone like you could do something like that and just feel a little "guilty." If it were me, my conscience would be killing me. But it’s a shame, because the damage is done. Until she agrees to see you, I won’t let you near her, lest you do something to hurt her again.
Ethan Kingsley furiously typed his reply: Claire Sinclair, don’t test my limits. Hand her over now.
Claire Sinclair: Fine. Then let’s just cut ties. Our values are completely different. We can’t be friends anymore.
Ethan Kingsley: Stop feeding me that meaningless crap. I want to see her.
Claire Sinclair didn’t reply.
She went to the guest room and saw Ivy Tanner just as she was coming out of the bathroom. Claire walked over and said, "Ethan Kingsley is at the front door. He says he wants to see you. I’ve tried to get rid of him a few times, but he won’t leave."
"I don’t want to see him," Ivy Tanner said resolutely.
"Don’t worry, he can’t get in. When Mr. Quincy gets back, if he still hasn’t left, Mr. Quincy will help us make him leave."
Ivy Tanner lowered her head, feeling a weight in her heart. "When he came looking for me," she asked in a low voice, "did he say anything?"
"He said the person who drugged you has been caught. He also said he wasn’t behind it, and that he was drugged too."
Ivy Tanner’s head snapped up. She stared at Claire in astonishment, her lips parting, but she didn’t know what to say.
’So, this was all a misunderstanding?’
Seeing her expression, Claire Sinclair knew that Ivy had believed Ethan Kingsley’s explanation.
’Oh well, it’s better for an outsider like me not to get involved.’ Claire then said, "You should take a moment to calm down. He probably won’t be leaving anytime soon. If you want to see him, I’ll go downstairs and open the door."
With that, Claire Sinclair turned and left the room.
Ivy Tanner walked to the window. Unfortunately, the room didn’t overlook the main entrance, so she couldn’t see where the man was.
’If Ethan Kingsley wasn’t the one who arranged for it to happen, then I could pretend that part never occurred. But what about what happened between him and me? What am I supposed to do about that?’
’I’m a simpleton. There’s no way he would take responsibility for me, and I can’t afford for him to, either.’
’It’s all meaningless anyway...’
’But I’m a simpleton. Simpletons don’t understand adult matters. I can’t stay angry for long, can I?’
At this thought, Ivy Tanner’s worries eased. She turned and walked out of the room.
Downstairs in the living room, Claire Sinclair was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through social media on her phone.
She’d barely had a chance to sit down when she saw Ivy Tanner coming down the stairs. It looked like she had made up her mind.
Claire Sinclair asked her directly, "Should I go open the door?"
Ivy Tanner shook her head. "I’ll go."
Claire Sinclair nodded without another word.
Ivy Tanner walked to the door, took a deep breath, and then pulled it open.
The next second, Ethan Kingsley rushed over like a man possessed, grabbing her arm urgently. "Little Cutie, come back with me!"
Ivy Tanner tilted her head back, pretending to be upset as she shook his hand off her arm. "Brother Kingsley, you’re being mean! I don’t like it!"
Ethan Kingsley gazed at her watery eyes, which were filled with hurt, and his heart twisted in agony. "You’re right, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been so harsh with you. Please forgive me. I’ll take you home and get you something delicious to eat, okay?"
