I Married the President

Chapter 538: There Will Be No Good End

Chapter 538: Chapter 538: There Will Be No Good End

Ivy Tanner shook her head vigorously. "No!"

"Why not?" Ethan Kingsley asked patiently.

Ivy Tanner pouted and mumbled quietly, "Brother Kingsley bit me and hit me. It hurts."

"It won’t be like this anymore. I won’t bite you or hit you again. I won’t hurt you. I’ll be good, okay?"

"Uhh..." Ivy Tanner tilted her head, as if in thought.

Ethan Kingsley reached out and gently tousled the damp ends of her hair, his tone unnervingly gentle. "Little Cutie, I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life. I won’t let anyone bully you ever again."

At his words, a fleeting look of shock—or perhaps panic—flashed in Ivy Tanner’s eyes.

’He said he’d take care of me for the rest of my life, but last time he explicitly said that was impossible. Does he just want to keep me forever... like a dog?’

’Eventually, he’s going to marry Corinne Linden. No wife in the world would tolerate her husband keeping another woman, even if that woman is an idiot.’

’This won’t end well!’

Fear gripped Ivy Tanner, and she instinctively took a step back, refusing in a small, timid voice, "No."

Ethan Kingsley obviously hadn’t expected her to refuse him. "Why not?" he asked in return.

Ivy Tanner didn’t reply, only looking at him with a wronged expression that made her appear all the more fragile and captivating.

For some reason, Ethan Kingsley’s chest tightened. An unfamiliar emotion stirred within him, and a stifling sensation suddenly took hold. "Don’t be afraid of me," he said. "I won’t be harsh with you again."

"Harsh..." Ivy Tanner mumbled, as if recalling what had happened between them.

Ethan Kingsley started to reach for her, but she flinched away instinctively. His hand froze in mid-air.

Ivy Tanner turned and looked toward Claire Sinclair, who had appeared in the doorway at some point. "Sinclair..."

Claire Sinclair said, "If you don’t want to go back with him, you can stay here. I have plenty of rooms; you can have your pick."

Ivy Tanner feigned a look of temptation, hesitating on whether to walk over to her.

Ethan Kingsley suddenly grabbed her arm. "Little Cutie, come home with me. Don’t bother Sinclair. She has to work tomorrow."

"Uhh..." Ivy Tanner hesitated.

Claire Sinclair, however, was unfazed. "My work isn’t an issue. I’m more worried that Mr. Kingsley will carelessly let someone drug Third Miss Tanner again, or that he won’t be able to control himself. By comparison, I think she’s safer here with me."

Ethan Kingsley’s cold eyes narrowed, and his voice grew husky. "I told you, it was an accident."

"Accident or not, it was a senseless ordeal for Third Miss Tanner. She shouldn’t have to return to the wolf’s den. At least here, I can guarantee her physical safety."

"Claire Sinclair, that’s enough," he said impatiently. "Her affairs are no longer your concern." With that, Ethan Kingsley forcefully swept Ivy Tanner into his arms and turned to leave.

Seeing this, Claire Sinclair quickly tried to stop him. "Mr. Kingsley, please respect Third Miss Tanner’s decision! She hasn’t made her choice yet."

"She doesn’t have a choice," Ethan Kingsley said coldly, walking toward his car without a backward glance.

However, before he could reach the community gate, a car blocked his path.

Adrian Quincy stepped out of the car and walked up to them. His icy gaze swept over Ethan Kingsley’s face before finally landing on the girl in his arms, but he said nothing.

Two cold, arrogant figures, one righteous and the other sinister, faced off in the dark. A vicious battle seemed imminent.
