Chapter 539: Chapter 539: Some Things Should Only Go So Far

Seeing this, Claire Sinclair hurried over and explained the situation simply. "Mr. Quincy, Mr. Kingsley is insisting on taking Third Miss Tanner away. I hope Third Miss Tanner can make her own decision."

Adrian Quincy gave a slight nod. He suddenly lifted his gaze to meet Ethan Kingsley’s, his domineering aura like that of a wild beast poised to strike.

Ethan Kingsley’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Control your woman," he said, his face impassive. "And stay out of things that don’t concern you."

Adrian Quincy ignored him and looked down at the girl in Ethan’s arms. "Ivy Tanner, do you want to go back with him?"

Ivy Tanner looked dazed for a moment, then gave a weak nod.

’If I don’t nod now, God knows if these two are going to start a fight.’

Only then did Adrian Quincy speak. "Take her."

Ethan Kingsley let out a cold snort, bypassed the two of them, and strode away.

Claire Sinclair watched them get into the car. She could clearly see the despair and helplessness in Ivy Tanner’s eyes during that final glance back at her. In the end, she hadn’t been able to help at all.

She didn’t look away until the car had vanished completely into the darkness. Overwhelmed with emotion, she sighed, "I don’t know what’s going to happen to Third Miss Tanner now..."

Adrian Quincy’s voice was grave. "Claire, some things are best not to get involved in. The way Ethan Kingsley looks at Ivy Tanner has changed. Don’t provoke him from now on."

"Huh?" Claire Sinclair didn’t quite understand.

"Have you taken a shower?"

"No."

"Go take a shower. Get to bed early tonight. We’re going to the hospital to see Grandpa tomorrow."

"Mhm!" Claire Sinclair nodded. The Great Demon King Quincy’s orders were more important, after all.

On the way back, Ivy Tanner sat obediently in the passenger seat like a tamed lamb.

In reality, the car was a two-seater—the highest-performance supercar in Ethan Kingsley’s garage.

He had been so intent on bringing her back that he had driven his fastest car, and this was the first time Ivy Tanner had ever been in his prized vehicle.

But Ivy Tanner’s heart was already dead. No matter how special his treatment of her was, she felt nothing.

’Once I go back, my life is probably over. Maybe someone who despises me will get me killed. Whether I die old and alone or suffer a gruesome death, neither is a good fate.’

’So be it,’ she thought in despair.

The car pulled slowly into the courtyard of a luxurious villa. This was Ethan Kingsley’s private residence. She’d heard he never brought women back here; the people he dated in the past were either taken to a hotel or he would spend the night at their place.

’To think I’ve been sullied by a man so impure in body and mind, yet I don’t even have the right to complain... My life is becoming more and more of a joke.’

’Well, that’s what I get for being a fool.’

Ethan Kingsley got out, walked over to the passenger side to open her door, and then personally lifted her out of the car.

She simply lay in his arms, motionless.

Once inside, Ethan Kingsley carried her straight to the second floor and laid her down on the bed in a guest room.

He didn’t leave right away. Instead, he sat on the edge of the bed, looking down at her stunningly beautiful face. "Little Cutie, you’ve already showered, haven’t you?"

Ivy Tanner nodded. "I have."

"Then get some sleep."

"Mhm." Ivy Tanner closed her eyes, truly not wanting to look at the man who had ruined her life.

’But... I’ve already closed my eyes. Why isn’t he leaving?’

Ethan Kingsley suddenly reached out and took her small hand. His voice was low as he said, "If you wake up hungry, let me know. I’ll find you something to eat."

’It’s this late, and he still remembers I haven’t eaten.’

Ivy Tanner wanted to laugh, but it wasn’t a laugh of joy. It was a bitter one.

’Ethan Kingsley... you don’t love me. You don’t love me.’
