Chapter 549: Chapter 549: Potential Stock
’A strong woman like Corinne Linden acting cute with a man... Claire Sinclair couldn’t even picture it.’
But Ivy Tanner’s words served as a reminder.
"A woman’s jealousy can be terrifying. You need to be on your guard. Corinne Linden is so smart. If she gets blinded by jealousy, I’m afraid she’ll find a way to come after you."
"I know." Ivy Tanner sighed. "I’m worried about it too. I don’t know how to handle this situation. I want to leave, but I can’t. It’s so frustrating."
Claire Sinclair thought for a moment, then asked, "Does Corinne Linden know about you and Ethan Kingsley?"
Ivy Tanner shook her head. "Not yet. Ethan Kingsley managed to brush it off. That man is very good at deceiving women. Otherwise, how could Corinne Linden be so utterly devoted to him?"
Claire Sinclair was suddenly at a loss for words.
It was clear that Ivy Tanner understood Ethan Kingsley well. But even with that understanding, she couldn’t get away from him, which showed she was at the end of her rope.
Ivy Tanner’s gaze drifted involuntarily to the lush green lawn outside the window. On a sudden whim, she said, "Next time you come, can you bring me some vegetable seeds? And some flower and tree saplings. It’s such a waste to leave this huge piece of land empty. I could plant some flowers and things to pass the time."
"Of course. I’ll go take a look at the flower and bird market later."
"You don’t have to make a special trip. I’m not in a hurry. If it’s inconvenient for you, you can just order them online."
Claire Sinclair smiled. "The flower and bird market is very close to my newspaper office. It’s no trouble for me to go."
"Oh, good." Ivy Tanner finally let out a sigh of relief.
The two of them talked for a long time. By the end, Claire Sinclair realized that although Ivy Tanner was smart, there were many things she didn’t actually know. She couldn’t even recognize all the words.
It couldn’t be helped. Ivy Tanner had become intellectually disabled at twelve, which meant her education had stopped at a twelve-year-old’s level. Fortunately, after it happened, the Tanner Family, not wanting to bother with her care, would lock her up at home and never let her out. As a result, all the unused rooms in the estate became her personal domain, including the study.
Ivy Tanner would often lock herself in her grandfather’s study to teach herself. Unfortunately, most of the books in the study were quite old, so what she learned was rather traditional.
Luckily, she also had free access to the storage room, which was basically a recycling depot. The Tanner Family temporarily stored all their discarded, recyclable items there, including old magazines and newspapers.
Best of all, the maid the Tanner Family hired to look after her wasn’t abusive, just very lazy. To keep Ivy from running around, the maid had just given her a phone to entertain herself for the past few years.
Although Ivy Tanner’s literacy was limited, her eagerness to learn made up for it. She learned a lot online and understood all the internet slang, though she wasn’t very good at writing by hand.
In short, the girl was full of potential.
Claire Sinclair decided that next time she visited, she would bring Ivy a laptop and teach her some basic computer skills. If she had a knack for it, Claire would consider teaching her some hacking techniques.
Claire Sinclair felt that she and Ivy Tanner had clicked instantly, and she regretted not having met her sooner. Unfortunately, time was limited. It wasn’t until the maid came to report that The Great Demon King Quincy was waiting for her outside that she realized it had gotten dark and she had to go home.
After saying goodbye to Ivy Tanner, Claire Sinclair walked out of the courtyard and saw a black sedan parked outside the gate. It was The Great Demon King Quincy’s private car.
She walked over in pleasant surprise, opened the car door, and slipped inside. The moment she sat down, she was met with a scolding from The Great Demon King Quincy. "What time is it? Why aren’t you home? What were you doing in there?"
Feeling a little guilty, Claire Sinclair stuck out her tongue. "I was just having a heart-to-heart with Third Miss Tanner. It’s not like I was doing anything bad."
