Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Moon’s Anger

After managing to convince Moon to help disguise Solaris’s way-too-obvious Lightbringer family features, Mars left them to it and decided to take a bath.

He didn’t stay in long, since he was trying to reach his old restaurant during the lunch break.

That was the moment his former boss would inevitably be in his office, stuffing meat after meat into his already fleshy body.

So in 3–4 minutes, he was done washing away the sweat. His body was still rather sore after the training, but nothing too crippling.

He put on his clothes, all black, and left his room, heading to where his wives were sitting.

There, Mars found Solaris already ready.

Her hair was dyed a dull black, and her golden eyes had been changed to bright blue thanks to the contacts Moon had given her.

As an actress, Moon Skygazer had many ways to alter her appearance. It helped her sink deeper into the characters she played, which made it easier.

However, it was quite obvious, from her expression, that she didn’t like using her own expensive things on Solaris.

"I know this bitch isn’t going to pay me," Moon said, slightly irritated. "But you, sweetheart, need to give me something."

"Even though all of this is so we can afford dinner tonight?" Mars replied, but Moon was shameless.

"Yes," she shrugged, smiling at him. "I still want you to pay me."

"Can we just kill her?" Solaris proposed, looking at Willow and Mars. "I swear we’d be better off without this snake. You, Willow, already know the reputation of the Skygazer. They’re traitors."

"What about your fanatical, corrupt family?" Moon sneered at her. "Going around New France preaching the glory of the Sun God while doing everything but what your god commands. You’re one hell of a bitch to talk."

"I don’t care," Solaris replied. "I’ve never believed whatever my family believes."

"And I’m your bitch of a mother who cheated—!"

"Moon," Mars cut her off straightaway, his hazel eyes narrowing. "Too far." He turned to Solaris, whose body had begun to flicker with fire, her eyes dead cold on Moon.

Moon looked at Mars’s serious face, then back at Solaris. She wasn’t impressed in the slightest, but it wasn’t wise to make her sweetheart like her less than the other two.

She had to always be the most liked. Just like always.

So she smiled at Solaris, a venomous, fake smile, and said, "I’m sorry. Seems like I overstepped."

It was obvious Moon wasn’t sincere. She didn’t care at all.

"One day," Solaris said through gritted teeth after a moment, and Mars’s mind spun at the intense anger he felt radiating from her, "one day I will kill you, Moon. I swear."

’Oh, fucking hell, come on!’ Mars sighed wearily to himself.

"Let’s see who kills who," Moon chuckled, then turned to look at Mars, whose face was clearly annoyed by all this. "And as for how to pay me, sweetheart, just sleep with me for one night in my room."

She winked at him. "Only sleeping, nothing else. I promise."

Mars looked at her for a moment before sighing. "We’ll talk about it once I’m back."

He approached Solaris and took her hand. Solaris flicked his hand away again, but with less force than usual.

She looked at him, clicked her tongue, and walked towards the door.

Mars sighed again and looked at Moon. "You’re making things difficult, Moon. This isn’t what we talked about."

"I said sorry, didn’t I?" she replied, eyes slightly narrowed. "What else do you want me to do? Kneel down in front of this bitch? Hm?"

Mars could feel a faint wave of anger rising inside Moon. He decided it was best to let the matter drop for now.

He shifted his attention to the silent Willow and nodded at her. "Alright, then. Well, we’re going. Take care of the house."

Mars then followed Solaris out of the house, leaving Willow and Moon behind. The latter immediately clicked her tongue in irritation when she heard the door open and close.

She looked at her makeup box beside her and slapped it away, sending it crashing onto the nearby couch, her purple eyes deep with anger.

Willow watched her with flat eyes, then spoke. "You truly are a bitch."

"Fuck you, Willow. I’m not in the mood, alright?" Moon snapped. "One training session, and he’s already trailing around after that sun bitch like a dog."

"You’re in the wrong. Mars did nothing."

"Didn’t I say shut up?"

"What if I don’t want to shut up?" Willow’s tone was as calm as ever, yet the pressure around her was shifting, turning into something lethal. "What will you do, Moon?"

Moon stared at her, then slowly stood up from the ground. "It just so happens I wanted to train today." A purple, poisonous aura began to shroud her body. "Maybe you’d like to be my partner, Willow?"

Willow smiled thinly, her bloodlust barely in check. "As you wish."

...

Outside the house, before Mars even had the chance to calm Solaris down, they came face to face with a scene that made them halt right at the doorstep, looking just beside their house, in their neighborhood.

"What did you just say to me?" The young woman, around 18 or so, black hair and red eyes, wearing a blue and white college uniform, screamed at the old woman in front of her.

Looking at the old woman, Mars recognized her as the woman he’d met the evening before, when he came back from the beating.

She looked around 40, with a few wrinkles here and there. She had long black hair with few strands of white and silver eyes, her body truly a sight to behold despite her modest clothing.

She was wine-like beautiful, with an air of warmth and sternness about her.

"I said, Alissa, that your skirt is way too short," the old woman said as calmly as possible. "You’re going to college, not the strip club, as far as I know. So go back and change it, and let’s avoid another scene. It’s too early for this."

"It’s my body!" the girl, Alissa apparently, refused, her cold face twisting in anger. "I do whatever the fuck I want. And mind your own business, you’re not my mother, okay? Now move!"

"I won’t move until you change your skirt."

"I said move!" Alissa gritted her teeth, her anger reaching such a level that tears welled up around her red eyes. "I’ll scream if you don’t move."

"Then scream," the old woman said calmly.

Mars and Solaris found themselves witnesses to the scene, not knowing what to do.

Mars looked at the young woman’s skirt and knew that if she bent over even slightly, everything would be visible.

He couldn’t blame the old woman.

Solaris, meanwhile, wasn’t of the same mind. She hated anyone trying to dictate what women should wear.

And given her already wrathful mood thanks to Moon, she was about to jump into the scene if Mars hadn’t caught her hand in time.

"What the hell are you doing?" Mars hissed.

"Who is she to tell her to change—!"

"Solaris, mind your own business, damn it!" Mars didn’t even let her finish, moving quickly and dragging Solaris along behind him. "We have enough problems as it is, for goodness’ sake!"

"You bloody plebeian!"

Mars didn’t even respond.

Their rapid, stressed footsteps caught the attention of both the young woman and the old woman, who turned to look at them as they passed right in front of their door.

Before Solaris could open her mouth, Mars already spoke. "Hey, how are you? We’re your neighbors, it seems." He smiled wryly, pointing at their house. "Nice to meet you. Forgive us, but we’re in a hurry! We’ll catch up another time."

Afraid of his wife’s loud, foul mouth, Mars picked up his pace and was soon far off in the distance, heading towards the metro station.

However, his actions had distracted the old woman just enough for the young woman, Alissa, to slip past her, jump the fence, and run with all her strength.

"Alissa!!!" the old woman screamed, while Alissa, once far enough away, turned and flicked her middle finger back at her.

"I’m not sleeping at home tonight!" Alissa bellowed. "Tell that to Father, since he only listens to you! Fuck this house!"

The old woman watched Alissa disappear into the distance and shook her head.

This clearly wasn’t the first time it had happened, and by now she knew how to deal with it.

She took out her phone, dialed a number, and pressed call.

The person on the other end answered instantly.

"Yes, madam?"

"After school, bring her back home," she said right away, her silver eyes calm as the surface of a lake.

"What if she runs away like last time?"

"Knock her out if you need to," she replied. "But I want this little girl back in the house once she’s done with college, do you hear me?"

"Roger that, madam!"

She hung up immediately after, closing her eyes for a moment. Then she turned her head towards the house the young man and woman had come out of earlier.

Her silver eyes narrowed.

"Another strange neighbor in this godforsaken neighborhood."
