Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Are You Okay?

DING!

[You have received a Quest!]

[First Time Together with Wife!]

[Description: This is your first time doing something alone with Solaris Lightbringer, your wife. And that first time is about robbing someone... well, that’s quite the first time.

Do it and earn Solaris’s favor.]

[Rewards: Cinema Tickets (x4); Limited Edition Frieren T-Shirt; Storage Ring (C rank)]

Mars looked at the description and rewards of the quest and let out a small smile.

The Limited Edition Frieren T-shirt alone made all of this worth it. He didn’t know how many years he’d been dreaming of obtaining a Limited Edition item of an anime he loved.

There was also the Storage Ring, which was incredibly rare and useful, especially one at C rank.

’Cinema tickets... four of them. And there are four of us.’ Mars sighed inwardly. ’You’re setting me up, System. I can see your game. You can’t fool me!’

[I wasn’t hiding my intentions, Consort Fox.]

’Don’t talk back!’

"Hide my face?" Solaris’s voice snapped Mars’s focus back to the present. "How? And why should I even hide my face?"

"Because you’re famous, Solaris." Mars grabbed his towel, wrapped it around his neck, and started to exit the gym. "And not for the good reasons, I remind you."

"And you think I fucking care what these plebeians and bastards think of me?"

"I know you don’t. But you should," he replied, and Solaris soon caught up to him, the two taking the elevator down to the ground floor. "What we’re going to do isn’t... legal, to say the least. And I don’t want to add to your already long list of incidents."

Stepping into the elevator, Mars leaned against the steel wall, while Solaris stood straight like a pillar of stone shaped by fire.

"What about you?" She spared him a glance from the corner of her eye. "Are you going to hide your face?"

Mars smiled. "There’s no need. I’m no one. No one would spare me a second glance even if I stood naked in the middle of the street."

"Pathetic. You’re truly a plebeian."

"Well, at least I can roam the streets without needing to hide my face, something you clearly can’t do. So yeah, I’ll take the plebeian’s title." He shot back, just as the elevator opened.

Solaris only mumbled a curse under her breath before stepping out, walking towards the living room.

"I don’t know how to cover my face," she said at last, stepping into the living room.

There, Mars saw Willow on the couch, listening to music through her pink headphones. Her fingers moved as if trying to follow the flow of the music.

Moon sat on the ground, a bunch of tools Mars didn’t even recognize sprawled around her. Clearly, these were tools for taking care of her nails and skin.

At their appearance, both women stopped what they were doing and turned their heads towards them.

"See, Willow?" Moon said right away, giggling. "The sun bitch really was training sweetheart."

"Strange," Willow said curtly.

"Who are you calling sun bitch, you fucking whore?" Solaris growled, walking menacingly towards Moon.

But the latter didn’t even spare her a glance, looking at Mars instead.

"Are you alright, sweetheart?" she asked gently. "She didn’t make it unnecessarily hard for you, did she? And why did you ask her to train you? I could’ve done it better!"

"Why? Because you’re bloody weak!"

"Me, weak?"

"Weaker than me!"

"Just because you scream louder and flaunt your fat ass everywhere you go doesn’t mean you’re stronger, Solaris," Moon said with a provocative smirk. "It just means you’re hungry for attention, like a—!"

"Alright, alright," Mars clapped his hands, stopping the words that would surely have sent Solaris into a frenzy of fury. "I asked Solaris because she’s better at hand-to-hand combat, and her fighting style is more physical than you two. That’s what I want to get better at."

"Because you were beaten?" Moon said, narrowing her purple eyes. "Will you not tell us who did this to you?"

"Yes," Willow added, looking at him with cold, flat pink eyes behind her glasses. "Who?"

Mars looked at the two women for a moment before smiling and shaking his head slowly. "This is kind of embarrassing. I feel like a child who got beaten up outside and came home to tell his big sisters everything."

"Big sister?" Moon laughed, setting down her lipstick. "No, sweetheart! Call me mommy! I’ll sugar-mommy you, I promise!"

"You’re fucking broke," Solaris hissed. "You’ll sugar-mommy no one."

"Solaris, why the fuck can’t you stay out of my business? I wasn’t talking to you."

"Broke bitch."

"You goddamn sun—!"

"Call me big sister," Willow interrupted them all, speaking to Mars with all the seriousness in the world. "Call me big sister, Mars."

Her pink eyes suddenly went blank, and Mars felt a chill run down his spine at the sight.

"W-What?" he said shakily.

"Big sister," Willow repeated. "Call me big sister. And tell your big sister who beat you."

’This is so fucking strange. What in the hell?!’

"Well, huh, what would you do to them?" he asked.

"I would kill them."

’Oh yeah, of course,’ Mars added dryly to himself.

"I appreciate the thought, but it’ll be fine." Mars pointed to Solaris, standing close to the seated Moon. "Solaris and I are going out today. And she needs to hide her face and her whole ’I’m a Lightbringer’ look."

He looked at the tools sprawled around Moon. "So, Moon, if you could help her — I don’t know — dye her hair a different color, get her some colored contacts, or just anything... help her."

"Where are you going?" Both Moon and Willow asked in unison, surprised to see the two going out together.

TOGETHER!

That was unbelievable.

"We’re going to my old restaurant to ask for the money my boss owes me. We need it, as you can see."

"We’re not only asking," Solaris added with a big grin, crossing her arms. "We’re going to beat his bloody ass and take all his money!"

"Wow. As expected of a brute like you," Moon said dryly.

"Me? The fuck do you mean?! It was Mars who proposed that!"

"Wow. You corrupted my sweetheart." Moon replied in a flat tone. "Mars, my sweetheart, come to mommy. I’ll give you a hug to dispel this sun bitch’s corruption."

"Haha... hahah." Mars laughed nervously before shaking his head. "Another time, Moon. We need to prepare and go now. So can you please help Solaris? We don’t want any more problems, and that’s certainly what we’ll have if we go do this with her current face."

Moon hesitated for a moment, looking disdainfully at Solaris before sighing. "Well, if that’s what my sweetheart wants, I’ll do it." Then she glared at Solaris. "Get your fat ass down here, bitch. I don’t have time to waste."

"You’re just jealous of my body," Solaris scoffed but obeyed anyway.

"And you’ll pay me back for all of this later. These cost too much money to waste on you."

"Just shut up."

Willow, meanwhile, was still looking at Mars intensely. She suddenly stood up from the couch and approached him, stopping a few steps away.

Mars stared at her nervously.

If he barely knew how to handle Moon, even though he always failed at it anyway, or even how to speak with Solaris, he knew nothing about what to do with Willow.

She was far too quiet for him to guess anything.

Yet strangely, he felt a bit more comfortable around her than the other two.

Especially now, because the feeling Mars usually got from Willow was erratic and full of hidden bloodlust. But at that moment, her bloodlust was focused on one thing.

"Tell me who beat you," she asked again.

"I’ll tell you once we have the money," Mars replied, knowing he couldn’t hide that fact forever. "For now, I don’t want us to walk into any big problems without at least a way to take care of ourselves."

Willow fell silent, then nodded shortly after. "Okay," she said curtly, before looking at his bruised face. "Are you okay?"

Mars’s eyes snapped wide in an instant. So did Moon’s and Solaris’s, both looking at Willow with dismay.

Did... did Willow just ask Mars how he was doing?

That thought made them realize none of them had actually asked Mars how he was doing, despite the fact that he always asked them every morning.

Only Willow had asked.

Mars was speechless for a moment before finally regaining himself, his heart pounding rashly in his chest, as he replied:

"I... I’m fine," he said, still dazed by the question, and then smiled. It was the most honest smile the women had ever seen on Mars’s face.

And goodness gracious, he was handsome!

"I hope you’re okay too?"

"I am," she nodded.

Mars’s smile deepened as he nodded too. "Thanks for asking, Willow. It means a lot."

Willow looked at his smile and let out a quiet grunt of acknowledgment, before turning and walking back towards the couch, her soft voice mumbling under her breath.

"Cute."
