I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 43: It’s BeautifulAs he took in the beautiful view, a small smile spread across Noir’s face at the sight of the pink trees.
It was as if one of his dreams from his past life had come true, since it was very similar to the cherry blossom season he had seen so often, whether in photographs or in documentaries.
And now...
He was walking among them.
’It’s beautiful...’
Even the golden sphere seemed to slow down, silently taking in the scenery.
Uki, the white wolf, tried to catch some petals with his snout. Naturally... he didn’t catch any.
Noir let out a little laugh.
’Don’t ever change.’
They kept moving forward.
Unlike the white forest, that place was teeming with life. Small birds with reddish plumage flitted among the branches, luminous butterflies rested on the flowers, and crystal-clear streams flowed across the ground, reflecting the sky as if they were mirrors.
Every few steps, a different kind of plant appeared.
Noir didn’t miss a single one. He activated Devourer, recorded the information, and kept walking, and his encyclopedia continued to grow.
The little dragon couldn’t have been happier.
’If the rest of the world is like this...’ He didn’t finish the sentence because he was so overwhelmed with emotion.
The path began to climb slowly.
From the top of a small hill, you could see kilometers of forest covered in pink flowers.
The wind picked up again, and thousands of petals swirled through the air, creating a veritable storm of color.
Noir watched the spectacle with genuine fascination.
For a few moments, he completely forgot that he was still in a place where any creature might try to devour him.
Until... his Draconic Senses kicked in, and the little dragon came to an abrupt halt.
Uki also froze, his ears pricked up, his hair standing on end, and he let out a low growl.
Noir glanced from side to side; his movement was barely noticeable; he didn’t want to give his location away completely.
Then, the sound of footsteps grew louder and louder.
Tap. Tap... Tap...
As if something were walking slowly among the trees.
’Damn it, why can’t I get some peace? Something always comes up that...’ Noir couldn’t help but curse under his breath.
The branches began to move, one after another, and the shadow’s silhouette became increasingly visible.
Until a huge shadow slowly descended from the tops of the cherry trees.
’Seriously? This is damn real: the first thing that shows up when I’m sad, right after leaving Amanises’ house, is this...’
What appeared was neither a cat nor a bird, but an unnatural hybrid of the two.
Its body resembled that of a gigantic lion, but with jet-black fur. Six enormous wings covered in dark feathers, whose tips looked like blades, sprouted from its back.
Its tail was excessively long and ended in a bony structure resembling a scorpion’s stinger. Where its eyes should have been... There were four pupils—two red and two violet —aligned vertically, staring at Noir without blinking.
When it opened its mouth slightly, it did not reveal normal fangs.
Dozens of small secondary jaws began to unfold from inside its throat, moving independently and emitting a strange metallic clicking sound.
The feathers on its wings slowly released a black mist that withered the cherry blossoms wherever it fell.
The creature didn’t roar or attack; it simply... smiled.
’Oh... shit, just what I needed.’
Noir realized something right away. Unlike almost all the monsters he’d encountered so far... this one didn’t seem to be hunting out of hunger.
...Instead, it seemed to be enjoying the encounter.
A damn battle maniac.
’...I don’t like this.’
’I definitely don’t like that.’
The little dragon felt a chill run through his scales.
The creature slowly tilted its head.
Then... it disappeared.
’What?!’
Noir barely had time to react before he saw a pair of wings attacking as if they were several swords.
BOOM!
One of the branches exploded behind him. Splinters and petals flew everywhere.
The little dragon flapped his wings on pure instinct and managed to move out of the way just a split second before a pair of black wings sliced through the spot where he had been.
Noir landed on the ground without wasting any time.
’Don’t stray from me.’
Uki responded with a soft bark before moving to stand beside him.
The two began to move slowly around the monster.
Neither wanted to attack first.
The feline slowly spread its six wings.
The black feathers brushed the ground.
Every petal they touched withered instantly.
’I don’t want to find out what they’ll do if they catch me.’
The creature vanished again.
This time, Noir was prepared and ready to react to anything using his Draconic Senses.
The flow of mana in the forest shifted just a moment behind him.
’There!’
The little dragon spun around abruptly. His black claws glowed with an intense light, activating his [Draconic Claws] ability.
CLANG!!
The monster’s wings collided with Noir’s claws.
A shockwave rocked the area, sending leaves and dust flying.
The little dragon was sent flying several meters backward, leaving deep marks in the ground as he tried to slow down.
’...What strength.’
He had barely regained his balance.
Uki had already sprung into action. With a nimble leap, he lunged straight at the monster’s side, aiming for its neck.
"ROAR!!"
But the feline moved only one of its wings; it moved with astonishing speed toward a curtain-like effect.
BANG!
The little wolf was flung between several logs.
Noir felt something inside him tense up.
’Damn it!’
He opened his mouth. He wasn’t going to use Dragon’s Breath just yet; he needed another option. Mana began to gather rapidly in his throat.
A small black sphere shrank until it was the size of a walnut; it was the new skill [Black Smoke Flash].
BOOM!!
The projectile shot through the air like lightning. The creature barely tilted its head to dodge it.
But... That was exactly what Noir had expected.
The sphere struck a tree behind the monster.
BOOM!!
A thick cloud of black smoke immediately billowed around the creature.
The surroundings vanished beneath that dark curtain, as if a smoke bomb had been set off.
’Now!’
Propelled by the flapping of its wings, the little dragon shot through the cloud at full speed. Its claws once again glowed with a dark light.
The monster was still shaking its head, trying to regain its vision, when Noir descended from above.
SLASH!!
The Draconic Claws left three deep wounds on one of its wings.
The creature let out a mighty roar.
One that made the entire cherry orchard tremble.
Noir landed several meters behind it as he caught his breath. A small smile spread across his face.
’Good...’
But that sense of satisfaction lasted barely a second.
The wounds began to twist; the black flesh moved slowly; the feathers grew back. And right before his very eyes... the deep scars vanished as if they had never existed.
Noir felt his smile slowly fade away.
’...Well, I’m starting to understand what’s going on... How am I ever going to take down that damn monstrosity...? Especially since it can regenerate!!’
