I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 66: Crystal Forest Part - 2Noir stood still and sharpened his Draconic Senses even further, until, at a certain point, they ceased to perceive anything.
It was as if what he had sensed had vanished completely. The young black dragon frowned slightly, confused. He glanced sideways at Uki, whose ears were pricked up.
"Oh, so you felt it, too." He glanced sideways at the white wolf, who let out a bark of confirmation.
Arlene looked up from the map after making the changes and asked:
"Felt what?"
"I don’t know..." Noir was honest: he had just sensed something, but he had no idea what it was; he had felt it, and that was it. Was it a monster? A new adventurer? He had no idea.
But he had confirmed one thing: that these dungeons were very different from the ones he had read about.
’Unbelievable! I just walked in, and I have no idea what’s going to happen.’
The young dragon’s smile widened with excitement, and his red eyes began to sparkle. He wanted to try out his magic, but for now he had decided not to use it.
His Dragon Senses expanded once more.
The mana continued to flow through the crystalline trees like an immense network of luminous veins. It rose up the trunks, traveled along the branches, and descended once more toward the roots.
Everything seemed normal.
Except... for the small interruption.
Noir couldn’t help but wonder: What was in this crystal forest? What was that thing that appeared and disappeared every fraction of a second? The only thing that hadn’t disappeared was the melody produced by the crystalline leaves every time the wind swept through the treetops.
He took a step forward. The white ground crunched softly beneath his paws. It wasn’t dirt; it looked like a mixture of pulverized glass and snow. Each footprint gave off a faint glow before slowly fading away.
Arlene, who was watching what was happening, made another note: "The terrain has changed, too," she murmured.
The young dragon paid no attention, but continued along the barely visible path, his eyes scanning every tree, every rock, and every shard of glass in the surrounding area.
As the three of them and the golden sphere continued through the crystal forest, the forest itself showed no signs of change; it remained the same, except that the melodies playing were the only things that had changed.
Then they heard a faint crackling sound, like glass shattering; it didn’t come from the front or the back, but seemed to come from the sides.
Noir, Arlene, and Uki stopped and looked around.
Another crack echoed much louder, and the melody in the air seemed to pause for a few moments.
Noir felt his scales tense—not out of fear, but out of instinct, because something had just changed.
Without warning... the enormous crystalline trunks began to reflect images; they weren’t mere reflections. Each tree displayed different scenes.
In one, Arlene was shown walking, looking at the map and making several changes; her lips moved, but no sound came out.
In another scene... you could see Uki, who had briefly broken away from the group to urinate on one of the trees and leave a lovely coffee-colored gift among the crystal bushes, where droplets slid down.
Noir slowly turned his head toward Uki, who was pretending not to notice, as if the white wolf with the quick reflexes wasn’t him. He even had the nerve to start growling menacingly.
The young dragon shook his head, somewhat disappointed, but deep down, he already had a plan to annoy the white wolf, who was pretending to be a saint when in reality he was a demon.
In another reflection, Noir performed the same actions: observing his surroundings and looking toward a specific point where he had sensed something moments earlier, and watching the way his mouth moved as he spoke to Arlene.
Noir frowned.
There was no reflection of the golden sphere—only those of the three of them. Why doesn’t the sphere reflect as well? Does it not consider itself a living being? Or is it such a unique entity that it cannot be reflected?
But the young dragon noticed something: the reflections weren’t just mimicking his movements—they were continuing to walk, even though they remained completely still.
The distance between the two groups began to shrink slowly.
Step.
Step by step.
As if those figures were approaching from inside the glass.
Arlene took half a step back.
"Noir..."
"I see him."
The reflections kept moving forward; each tree showed a different angle: in one, Noir appeared in profile; in another, he walked with his back to the viewer; and in a third, he slowly raised his head.
But the real Noir had never made that movement.
The young dragon narrowed his eyes.
"They’re not just reflections."
The last sound echoed like a bell shattering.
CRACK!
The trees trembled all at once. Their crystalline surfaces cracked from the inside out. A hand pierced one of the trunks.
Then another.
And yet another.
The figures began to emerge slowly from the glass: first a white wolf appeared, then a young half-human girl wearing a sorceress’s hat. And finally... a young black dragon.
He was identical.
The same horns, the same wings, the same dark scales—even the same red eyes.
The only difference... It was as if his entire body were made of transparent glass, glowing with a faint blue light.
The three copies stood motionless.
Watching them.
As if they had been waiting for them long before they crossed the threshold of the dungeon
No one moved. For several seconds, the two groups stared at each other.
Noir tilted his head slightly, as if trying to check something, and the copy did the same.
"I see..."
The young dragon raised a claw and moved it.
His reflection repeated the movement.
Noir lowered his claw.
So did the copy.
’Are they imitating our movements?’
He decided to test it; once again, he slowly spread a wing and stuck out his tongue.
The crystal creature did the same—it spread its wing and stuck out its crystal tongue.
Beside it, Uki bared its fangs, and its copy responded by baring its own.
But none of the copies made a sound; they merely mimicked the movements. This made Noir wonder if they would copy his movements as well.
Would they copy his abilities and traits?
The Crystal Noir remained completely still, watching him, and then slowly opened his mouth.
Noir felt his Draconic Senses react.
Mana.
An enormous amount began to accumulate in the crystalline throat.
His pupils contracted; he knew that sensation perfectly well—because it was his own!
[Dragon Breath.]
"..."
Noir smiled again. This time, he bared his fangs.
"Oh."
The entire forest began to sing.
"This is going to be fun."
