I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 67: Crystal Forest Part - 3The Crystal Noir wasted no time in attacking; it opened its mouth wide, and a blue flame shot out like a flare.
Noir leaped to the side, dodging the attack, which grazed his body by just a few centimeters.
The clone’s Dragon’s Breath pierced through several crystal trees. The enormous structures exploded into a shower of luminous shards that hung suspended in the air before slowly falling onto the white grass.
Noir landed on one leg and spun around immediately, thinking as he saw the destruction behind him:
’You’re using my abilities. Will you be able to use all the abilities I have?’
He didn’t have much time to find out, because the copy had vanished in an instant; it even seemed as though it had copied his speed.
The young dragon turned at the sense of danger behind him and saw the crystal claw just a few centimeters from his eyes. Before it could attack him, he vanished into the shadows and reappeared on a crystal branch.
But the copy was already upon him and attacked again. The force of the impact caused the branch to snap beneath his paws.
Noir was pushed several meters backward.
The copy stood motionless. Its crystalline claws began to glow with a faint blue light. It was the [Dragon Claw] ability.
Noir narrowed his eyes; he had copied that ability as well, and this time, his claws took on a dark hue. He, too, was using the [Dragon Claw] ability.
CRASH!
The two figures clashed once more, claw against claw and glass against scales.
The impact echoed through the forest.
Uki growled and prepared to lunge at his own duplicate, but Arlene immediately raised an arm.
"Wait!"
The white wolf stopped.
So did his duplicate.
For a moment, they stood there staring at each other. Then the crystal Uki bared his fangs, and the real Uki responded in kind.
Arlene gripped her cane tightly.
"This is getting complicated."
Noir barely heard his words. All his attention was focused on his opponent.
The clone attacked again.
Noir dodged a claw that whizzed past his face and countered with a direct blow to the chest.
BOOM!
The crystal dragon was hurled through the air, but it didn’t fall; its wings spread, and it descended slowly until it touched the ground.
Noir smiled.
’It reacts the same way I do.’
The copy opened its mouth again. The same light began to gather in its throat.
Noir sensed the mana; he moved before the attack was unleashed.
"Not again!"
The Dragon’s Breath sliced through the space where he had been a second earlier.
Noir seized the moment and lunged forward; his claws struck the crystalline chest.
CRACK!
A crack appeared in the copy’s body.
Noir stepped back.
’It worked.’
But then he remembered something. Up until that moment, he had only seen the copy use its racial abilities. It hadn’t used any of the abilities he had gained after devouring monsters—only [Movement of Shadow]
’Let’s see...’
Noir extended a claw and activated the first ability he had obtained, [Stone Hide]. His black scales turned gray.
He hoped the copy could do the same, but nothing happened; the copy seemed confused.
Noir opened his eyes slightly.
’It can’t use it.’
That was interesting. Until now, he had assumed that the copy could reproduce absolutely everything he could do.
But apparently, there was a difference. The abilities that were natural to his race could be copied. The ones he had obtained through Devourer... No.
Noir smiled slowly.
’Then let’s try another one.’
His body began to blend into the shadows and vanished in an instant; then he appeared behind the copy.
But the copy had no effect.
Noir stood completely still. A different emotion flashed in his eyes. It wasn’t just amusement, but curiosity.
That monster wasn’t copying his entire being. It was copying a part of him—his body, his racial abilities—but not what he had achieved with Devourer.
"So you do have limits."
The copy slowly turned its head; its red, glassy eyes fixed on Noir. Then it opened its mouth again, and the light began to gather once more.
Noir bared his fangs and spread his wings.
"All right. So now I know how to fight you."
The Dragon’s Breath roared once more.
And this time... Noir also charged straight at it.
***
A few meters away, Arlene stood facing her own duplicate.
The young half-human held the staff with both hands. In front of her, the glass Arlene did the same thing.
"..."
Arlene narrowed her eyes.
"So you can use my magic, too."
The copy didn’t respond. She raised her wand, and a magic circle appeared; from it, a small blue flower emerged at the tip.
Arlene smiled.
"So it won’t be that easy."
The flower bloomed.
BOOM!
Dozens of crystalline vines shot up from the ground and lunged toward her like snakes.
Arlene spun on one foot; one vine whizzed past her face; another tried to wrap itself around her waist.
The young woman leaped backward, planted one hand on the ground, and used the momentum to spin in midair.
Three flowers appeared around her body.
"Floral Step."
FWOOSH!
The flowers burst into a shower of petals. Each petal turned into a small, sharp blade that shot off in all directions.
The clone raised a hand. A barrier made of enormous, crystalline petals appeared in front of her.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The projectiles struck the barrier one after another.
Arlene landed; immediately, another magic circle appeared on the ground, and she thrust the tip of her staff into it.
"Thorn Garden."
The ground began to tremble; dozens of tiny flowers sprouted around the copy; for a second, they remained completely still.
Then...
CRACK!
Huge thorns jutted out of the ground from every direction.
The copy leaped.
A thorn shot up beneath its feet.
Another shot up behind it.
A third appeared right in front of its face.
The creature spun in midair and managed to dodge it by just a few centimeters.
Arlene was already waiting.
"Got you."
She moved her wand to one side. The flowers she had created earlier snapped shut.
BOOM!
