The explosion shook the crystal forest; Arlene’s duplicate was hurled through the air amid a shower of crystalline petals.

But she didn’t fall. She spun in midair and reached out a hand; a blue flower appeared at her feet.

The flower burst open.

The creature shot upward just before the thorns pierced the spot where it had been.

Arlene opened her eyes slightly.

The creature looked around, trying to escape, but a flower appeared in front of her, and a vine struck her body, sending her flying backward.

Another appeared behind her.

She caught her.

Arlene seized the moment and leaped from the branch. As she fell, several flowers appeared around her body: one beneath her foot and another next to her shoulder. She changed direction midair.

Arlene landed gently on the ground.

The copy remained motionless, and one last crack appeared from its head to its feet.

Her entire body exploded. Thousands of crystalline shards hung suspended in the air before slowly falling onto the white, crystalline grass.

The small shards scattered around began to slide across the floor, slowly drawn toward it. The crystal began to reassemble itself.

But this time it didn’t take the form of the copy she had just destroyed; the silhouette that appeared was much smaller.

Thinner.

And completely different.

Arlene felt a chill run down her spine. It wasn’t mimicking her movements—it was... changing.

The body finished taking shape. A small, crystalline creature slowly raised its head; it had no face. Just two points of blue light where its eyes should have been.

Arlene gripped her staff tightly, preparing a new, utterly destructive spell.

The creature remained motionless for several seconds.

Then...

It smiled.

Arlene felt her heart stop. That smile didn’t belong to her doppelganger, and without a second thought, she attacked, using up almost all her mana.

"Rose Explosion!"
