I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 73: Unable To Cause HarmThe cloud of smoke began to dissipate slowly; Noir remained suspended in the air, his wings spread wide and his eyes fixed inward.
He could see and feel all the mana gathering around the boss monster, which his attack hadn’t harmed in the slightest.
’...It can’t be.’
His draconic senses stretched as far as they could. The result made his pupils contract.
The lake’s mana was being absorbed. Thousands of streams of crystalline energy flowed up from the depths and concentrated around the serpent. It was as if the lake itself were feeding it.
The serpent slowly opened its mouth; the blue light between its fangs grew increasingly intense.
Noir felt a dark chill run through his scales; he hadn’t expected to encounter such a powerful creature just a few days after leaving the magical valley.
"Arlene!"
The half-human looked up.
"What?"
"Get away from the lake!"
There was no time to explain.
Arlene immediately understood the gravity in his voice and began to back away.
Uki moved as well.
Noir spread his wings.
’If that attack is as powerful as it seems...’
The snake closed its mouth. For a split second, everything fell completely silent.
And then... A massive surge of blue energy shot out. It was a crystalline torrent that tore through space at terrifying speed.
Noir vanished into the shadows. The attack passed right where he had been standing.
BOOOOOOM!
The glass wall exploded. Huge shards flew off in all directions. One of them grazed Noir’s wing.
The young dragon reappeared atop a crystalline formation and looked back.
The hole left by the attack was enormous. Far too enormous, but he didn’t have much time to think, because the serpent was already writhing and moving; it was as if it had anticipated what Noir would do.
The enormous body of the crystal boss monster cut through the lake with hardly any resistance. The liquid crystal parted around it as it moved forward at great speed.
Arlene lanzó otro hechizo, clavó su basto en el suelo de cristal y las runas aparecían formando el hechizo cada vez más. Estas brillaron con una luz intensa.
She exclaimed:
"Garden of Thorns!"
Dozens of flowers appeared around the serpent, which was charging toward her like a bull driven mad by rage, and enormous thorns sprang from them all at once, encircling its body.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
They all struck the crystalline scales, but with the slightest movement from the crystal monster, they snapped like twigs.
This meant that Arlene’s magic wasn’t powerful enough to harm the serpent, let alone slow its movement for even a few seconds.
Arlene froze completely; she didn’t seem to expect her magic to be so inadequate, and her expression grew somber as she realized she was too weak.
The snake opened its mouth again.
However, Noir wasn’t going to let it attack again. His claws took on a dark, shimmering hue as he activated his [Draconic Claws] ability, and at the same time, his scales turned grayish. This was the result of the [Stone Hide] ability.
Extendió las alas y se lanzó directamente hacia la serpiente.
The young dragon sped up.
So did the snake.
The two creatures met in the middle of the crystal-clear lake.
The snake’s enormous jaws opened, revealing its crystal-clear fangs. Noir veered to the side, dodging by just a few centimeters, and the massive head swept past him.
Spinning through the air in an acrobatic maneuver, Noir attacked with his claws and bared all his sharp teeth.
CLANG!
Its claws struck several scales, but the damage wasn’t too severe; it only left slight cracks.
Noir opened his eyes slightly; he realized that the dungeon’s own mana was strengthening the crystal creature’s body, so his blows—which would normally be fatal—didn’t have as much effect as he’d expected.
The serpent turned its head and attacked again.
Noir moved just before the enormous jaw snapped shut on him.
FWOOSH!
The snake’s body brushed past him.
Noir quickly descended and vanished back into the shadows.
"We have to get out of here!"
Arlene looked at him in surprise.
"Get out of here?"
"We can’t hurt him!"
The half-human examined the creature’s scales. The flowers she had used hadn’t done anything.
Noir hadn’t managed to inflict a wound big enough either; the best thing to do was to run away; he wasn’t like those hot-blooded heroes who can do anything with the mysterious power of determination.
Arlene ran toward the shed.
Uki was already there. The white wolf growled as he watched the snake, but even he seemed to realize that continuing to fight was a terrible idea.
The three of them started running... well, two of them, since Noir was flying. The liquid crystal churned violently behind them.
The serpent raised its head and opened its mouth.
Noir, whose senses were hypersensitive to any disturbance in his surroundings, felt the mana behind him begin to build up; that meant the crystal serpent was preparing another powerful attack.
FWOOSH!
The attack swept through the chamber.
Noir grabbed Uki with a claw and leaped to the side as Arlene let herself sink into the crystal water.
The torrent of energy swept over them.
BOOOOOOM!
A huge section of the wall exploded. Crystalline shards began to fall from the ceiling.
The serpent roared again. The sound made the entire chamber vibrate.
Noir sped up. His wings beat against the crystalline water, while the wind generated by his own speed seemed to slow him down.
The hut was getting closer and closer... But so was the snake: the creature’s gigantic body began to slither across the lake. Every movement sent huge waves crashing onto the shore.
Noir looked ahead. The small structure seemed ridiculously insignificant compared to that monster.
"Arlene!"
"What?!"
"Figure out how to open it!"
The half-human pulled out her staff as she ran.
"And what are you going to do?!"
Noir bared his fangs.
"I’ll try to keep it from eating us!"
The serpent emerged from the lake. Its enormous body landed in front of them, sending huge waves of crystal-clear water crashing out.
The entire room rocked from side to side as if it were a warship battling the gigantic waves of a treacherous sea.
Noir turned as he rose into the air, and the enormous serpent rose as well, casting a massive shadow of the young black dragon.
