I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 75: Back To The GuildAfter passing through the door while everything was shaking—following the crystal serpent’s powerful attack—the white light grew increasingly intense with each passing second.
It even forced Noir to close his eyes for a brief moment. When he opened them again, he found himself in the dark cave where he had entered the dungeon.
"We’re outside..." he muttered, somewhat incredulous; he hadn’t expected that outcome, even though he’d enjoyed it.
"Let’s get out of this cave; we need to report all the anomalies in this dungeon," Arlene said, recovered, shook out her clothes, adjusted her hat, and brushed her tail a little.
Uki, who had returned to his normal size, shook the dust and shards of glass from his fur and let out a bark while wagging his tail; it seemed he had really enjoyed his first foray into a dungeon.
While the golden sphere—the sole spectator of each battle—began to light the way, the young black dragon carried on as if nothing had happened.
But Noir’s mind was elsewhere, so he remained silent until they left the cave.
Once outside the cave, they realized that only about three hours had passed since they had entered.
Noir frowned.
Inside the dungeon, the sense of time had been completely different. They had traveled through the crystal forest, fought their doppelgangers, descended the endless staircase, and faced the crystal serpent. All of that had seemed much longer to him.
’Only three hours...?’
The young dragon narrowed his eyes. Perhaps time inside the dungeon behaved differently as well.
Yet another peculiarity to add to the list. The rules of that place were very different from those of the outside world.
This revelation further fueled Noir’s desire to explore more dungeons. There was also the strange message from the system that had appeared when he devoured his crystal copy. Was that a clue to creating his own dungeon?
And the same questions kept echoing in his head, especially those related to the anomalies he had observed. The young black dragon had the feeling that all of this was due to his presence or that of the golden sphere, because both were quite strange, especially when it came to their origins.
He was a human from Earth who had died, and whose soul and memories had been implanted into a dragon egg that may have been lifeless, while the golden sphere was a walking mystery, far too strange.
’So we’re a walking anomaly...’
Noir glanced sideways at the golden sphere; it was just flashing a few times, which he clearly understood, as if it were enjoying watching him think so hard. He stretched like a cat and let out a long yawn.
He had used up too much mana and needed to sleep so his reserves could fully recharge before his next adventure.
’This world never ceases to amaze me; I want to keep learning more about it, but first, a nap to regain my strength.’
After Arlene spoke with the guild members, they left the forest and boarded the same carriage that had brought them to the dungeon.
Noir quickly flew up to the roof of the carriage tent; Uki did the same, and before long, they both fell asleep.
***
After a few hours, the carriage continued along the road until, finally, the walls of the magical city came into view, where foxes and other magical animals moved about in groups.
Noir slowly opened one eye and let out a long yawn. He had slept almost the entire way. He lifted his head slightly from the ceiling of the carriage and watched as they gradually approached the city.
"We’re here."
He didn’t feel any particular emotion. After everything that had happened in the dungeon, returning to a normal city seemed almost boring.
The city was the same as when they’d left.
Uki, who was still asleep beside her, twitched an ear slightly.
Then he fell back asleep.
Noir did the same.
Shortly afterward, the carriage stopped in front of the guild.
Arlene went down first.
Noir descended from the ceiling and landed gently on the floor, while Uki jumped down behind him. The golden sphere floated slowly until it hovered above the young dragon’s head.
Noir entered the guild alongside the other two.
The interior was as crowded as ever. Several adventurers were chatting around the tables while others checked the mission boards.
Arlene walked straight up to the counter.
Noir followed her. However, he was barely paying attention. He had already decided that if nothing interesting happened in the next few minutes, he would probably fall back asleep.
Arlene placed the map on the counter.
"I need to turn in the dungeon report."
The receptionist looked up.
"Are you back already?"
"Yes."
The woman took the map.
"Did you find any changes?"
Arlene remained silent for a few seconds. Then she replied:
"Everything has changed."
The receptionist blinked.
"...Everything?"
"The first level no longer matches the map."
Arlene began pointing to different parts of the map.
"The forest that was supposed to be much further ahead appeared practically right at the entrance. The terrain had also changed. The paths had disappeared. The lake that was supposed to be beyond the forest wasn’t there either."
The receptionist began to frown.
Noir watched the conversation from the sidelines. He looked completely bored.
Arlene continued.
"And then we found a staircase."
"A staircase?"
"Yes."
"Where?"
"After we left the woods."
The receptionist looked at the map. Then she looked back at Arlene.
"That’s not on here."
"I know."
Arlene replied immediately.
"Because it wasn’t there before."
The woman ran a hand over the map.
"Maybe it’s a natural change in the dungeon."
Arlene tapped the counter lightly.
"No!"
Several people nearby turned their heads.
The receptionist jumped.
Arlene took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
"These aren’t normal changes."
The receptionist remained silent.
Arlene went on to explain everything they had found.
The crystal forest, the copies, the staircase, the lake, and the creature that lived in it. And, finally, the fact that they had ended up right in the boss’s chamber.
The receptionist’s expression gradually changed. Finally, she set the map down on the counter.
"...Are you sure?"
Arlene looked at her in disbelief.
"Do you think I’m making this up?"
"I didn’t say that."
"Then believe me."
The receptionist swallowed hard.
"A dungeon shouldn’t change like that."
Noir, who had been listening from the side, yawned.
The golden sphere gave off a faint glow.
Noir glanced at it out of the corner of her eye.
"Are you bored, too?"
The sphere remained completely still.
"I thought so."
Arlene continued arguing with the receptionist for several minutes.
Noir stopped paying attention. His gaze began to wander around the guild hall before he fell asleep again.
