I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 81: This is definitely going to be fun’On the other side of the continent...’
Noir hadn’t expected the famous Demonicado Kingdom to be so far away... but it was the perfect opportunity to meet his long-awaited demonic wife—who’s a great cook—and the little demon girl who had recently saved her; it was the perfect excuse.
He raised his head, unable to hide his excitement, and asked, his tail wagging like a dog’s when it receives a treat:
"How long does it take to get to the Demon Realm?"
Arlene crossed her arms with a pensive expression before answering.
"It depends on which route we take. But if we travel by land... it will probably take between four and five months."
"Quite a while..." the young dragon murmured; he hadn’t expected the demon realm to be so far away that so much time had passed since he’d been reincarnated in the cave.
However, time was the least of his worries; even without anyone telling him, he knew he had a long life ahead of him... though Arlene couldn’t say the same—but now wasn’t the time to think about that.
’Maybe I should find myself an elf friend. Well, with Uki and the golden orb, I have more than enough; another one would just cause more chaos.’
For Noir, this meant that during all those months of traveling through the demon realm, she would discover new cities, new biomes, creatures, monsters, and countless mysteries to solve.
His red eyes began to shine brightly, just as they had when he emerged from the cave, where he had sensed a vast place full of possibilities. Although this city seemed magical to the young black dragon, it was already starting to bore him a little.
Arlene, noticing Noir’s gaze, let her expression darken almost completely and said in a somber voice:
"Tell me, what are you thinking? It’s not what I think it is, is it?"
Noir turned his head, baring all his teeth without the slightest intention of hiding them.
"What makes you think that? I haven’t said anything yet, and you don’t know me well enough, do you?"
"Of course I don’t know you well enough; you’re too unique for that..." She began, grimacing: "But that look—I’ve seen it often enough to know what you’re thinking, even without you saying it."
"What look?" The young dragon smiled, letting his gaze wander over Arlene’s face.
"The look you get when you’re about to do something stupid."
"I’m not going to do anything stupid."
Arlene pointed at him.
"That’s exactly what you said before you devoured one of the bandits."
Noir paused and replied, "It was a learning experience. I just needed to buy a few things."
The golden sphere began to spin rapidly; it seemed to be enjoying the argument, and the little girl watched Noir as well.
And then she asked in a soft voice:
"Are you going to take me home?"
Noir froze; that wasn’t his intention—he just wanted to travel all the way to the demon realm. He had already completely forgotten about the little girl.
The little demon looked down immediately after asking the question.
"Never mind..."
But Noir kept watching her, then looked toward the window. It was an enormous distance. They would have to cross unknown territories, forests, mountains, and cities. And, according to Arlene, there was a major obstacle between them and the Demon Realm.
Noir turned his gaze back to her.
"What lies between here and the Demon Realm?"
Arlene hesitated for a few seconds and replied:
"The Demonic River."
Noir tilted her head.
"That sounds suspiciously dangerous."
"Because it is." Arlene’s expression turned serious. "It’s one of the most dangerous natural borders on the continent."
The little black dragon stopped smiling. That had certainly piqued his interest.
"What’s so special about it?"
Arlene took a deep breath and let it out.
"The river is enormous. Some sections are several kilometers wide. The creatures that live there can swallow an entire ship."
The young dragon stood completely still. This information was crucial.
Arlene continued.
"Water monsters. Giant creatures. Beasts that have lived there for centuries. See? It doesn’t seem like such a good idea to go to the demon realm."
The young dragon remained silent. For a few seconds, no one knew what he was thinking. Finally, his red pupils glowed again.
"Did you say giant creatures?"
Arlene closed her eyes.
"Noir."
"Monsters?"
"Noir."
"The ones that live for centuries?"
"NOIR!"
The young dragon flashed a smile full of excitement.
"That sounds interesting."
Arlene slumped backward.
"I’m going to die."
"That’s pretty dramatic."
"We’re going to be traveling for months!"
"Great."
"We’ll have to cross the Demonic River!"
"Even better."
"There are ancient monsters!"
Noir spread his wings slightly.
"So what?"
Arlene looked at him in horror.
"’So what’?"
The young dragon stood up on the chair. For the first time since he had arrived in the city, he felt that something that seemed like a real direction was appearing before him.
Until now, he had only been traveling—exploring, discovering the world step by step. But now... he had a destination, a place he could head toward: a completely unknown kingdom, a land full of demons. And a river where giant monsters lived.
Noir looked at the girl.
She continued to watch him uncertainly.
The little dragon smiled.
"I think we’ve found our next destination."
Arlene opened her eyes.
"Noir..."
"The Demon Realm."
The golden SphSpheregan began to spin rapidly.
Uki, who had returned just in time to overhear the conversation, let out a worried grunt.
The demon girl remained completely still.
And Arlene put both hands to her head.
Noir tilted his head.
"What’s going on?"
"More than three months with you."
The young dragon smiled.
"I know. It’s a great privilege for you to travel with a dragon. Consider yourself lucky. Didn’t you say that my kind had gone extinct or something like that?"
Noir jumped out of the chair and landed on the floor. His tail swayed slowly behind him, though the girl still refused to let go of it. He looked toward the window one last time.
The world was enormous.
Much bigger than he had imagined when he first opened his eyes in that cave.
And now he had a new destination.
The Demon Realm.
Noir’s smile widened slightly.
’This is definitely going to be fun.’
The golden sphere shone brightly.
Arlene sighed.
And the girl, without realizing it, had just completely changed the course of the young black dragon’s journey.
The adventure to the Demon Realm...
Was about to begin.
