I Reincarnated As A Dragon With A Devourer System
Chapter 82: Dangerous TerritoryThe next day, after Noir decided they would set sail for the demon realm—leaving the others with no choice; after all, he was a selfish dragon.
So the preparations took them the whole day... or, more precisely, Arlene, who was reluctantly left to handle everything.
Noir had quickly discovered that traveling for several months was much more complicated than he had imagined.
In his mind, the plan seemed simple. They would leave the city, follow a path for a few months, cross some mountains, avoid being devoured by giant monsters, and finally arrive at the Demon Realm.
Simple... Extremely simple.
Arlene, however, seemed to have a completely different opinion.
"We need food. There are monsters in the forest. Not all of us can eat monsters. That sounds like a personal problem."
The list went on and on, so he let her take care of everything. After all, it was Arlene who needed her supplies to survive, not him—he just had to devour a few animals, and that was it.
The young black dragon lifted his head from the table at the inn. In front of him were several sacks, boxes, and items that Arlene had bought that morning.
Noir watched them for several seconds and asked:
"Why do we need so many things?"
Arlene put a hand to her forehead.
"Because we’re going to be traveling for months."
"I get that part. You can’t just stock up in another city to buy so many things; it’s unnecessary."
Arlene, her forehead beaded with sweat, frowned in annoyance; she had too much to do to talk, and she said:
"Because I need it. I need all of this to survive and get stronger, so don’t talk to me anymore; I’m busy because of you."
The young dragon let out a growl and looked away.
For the rest of the day, Arlene had taken charge of organizing practically everything. They had bought supplies, water, blankets, and new clothes for the little demon. They had also gotten a map of the continent, though Noir quickly discovered that it was much less useful than he had hoped.
Most of the areas far from the major cities were barely marked. There were vast empty spaces. Nameless mountains. Forests that seemed to stretch for hundreds of kilometers. And several regions bore a warning: "Dangerous territory."
Noir had spent several minutes studying the map. Then he had pointed to one of those areas.
"What’s here?"
"I don’t know."
"What do you mean, you don’t know?"
"Because no one who’s ever tried to explore it has come back."
Noir remained silent, and his red pupils began to glow. It was an area he knew well: the Magic Valley. Why had no one returned? Several questions popped into his mind, but he didn’t give them much thought.
The demon girl, for her part, had stayed close to him all day.
Noir had tried to ignore that fact, which hadn’t been easy for him. Every time he walked somewhere, she followed him.
If he stopped, so did she. And when Noir sat down, the little girl ended up clinging to his tail. At first, he had tried to get it back.
When he tried to fly, the little demon girl panicked, as if the only certainty was her fate, so he accepted that fate. His tail no longer belonged to him.
As night fell, they finally finished their preparations.
The carriage Arlene had arranged was waiting in front of the inn. It wasn’t particularly large, but it had enough room to carry their belongings and allow them to travel in some comfort.
Two horses stood tied up in front.
Noir watched them for several seconds.
The horses watched him.
The silence lingered.
Finally, one of them let out a nervous sound.
Noir raised an eyebrow, confused.
"What’s wrong with them?"
Arlene finished loading one of the last sacks into the carriage.
"You’re a dragon."
"So?"
"He can probably sense it."
Noir looked at the horse again because he hadn’t noticed the horse’s reaction before—or maybe he just hadn’t cared.
"But am I a cute and adorable dragon?"
The horse backed away, clearly upset.
Noir narrowed his eyes.
"That was offensive."
"Noir, leave the horse alone."
"I’m not even doing anything."
The golden sphere began to spin around his head, as if he were enjoying the situation.
Uki appeared from somewhere nearby and leaped into the carriage before Noir could react.
The young dragon watched him before letting out a long, lazy sigh.

The next morning came sooner than he expected.
Noir woke up to sunlight streaming through the bedroom window. For a few seconds, he lay there without moving.
Then he remembered where he was.
The city.
The journey.
The Demon Realm.
His red pupils dilated instantly. A smile slowly spread across his face.
"We’re leaving today."
The golden sphere glowed atop one of his horns.
Noir leaped out of bed.
The demon girl, who had been sleeping next to him, slowly opened her eyes. For a few seconds, she looked confused. Then she looked at Noir.
"Shall we go?"
The young dragon nodded.
"Yes."
"To my house?"
Noir was silent for a moment and looked out the window.
"Let’s start by getting out of this city."
The girl looked at him.
"And then?"
Noir smiled.
"Then we’ll see what happens."
A few hours later, the carriage slowly passed through the city gates.
Noir was sitting by the window, watching as the buildings began to recede into the distance.
The city that had so amazed him when he first arrived was slowly fading away behind them. Everything was becoming a thing of the past.
Arlene held the reins as the carriage made its way down the main road.
Uki slept peacefully in one of the seats.
The golden sphere floated beside Noir.
And the little demon sat near him, still clinging to his tail.
Noir looked back one last time. He didn’t feel sad, but he did feel something strange. He had only been there a short time, but the emotions he felt were intense.
The young dragon turned his gaze back to the path.
The forest stretched out before them. Beyond that horizon lay cities he had never seen, creatures he had never imagined, and secrets that probably no one had ever discovered.
There were monsters, too. Lots of monsters.
Noir’s smile grew a little wider.
"Arlene."
"What’s going on now?"
"How much longer until we find our first monster?"
The carriage fell silent for several seconds.
Arlene slowly turned her head.
"We just left the city."
"That doesn’t answer my question."
"NOIR!"
The young dragon burst out laughing.
The golden orb began to spin.
The little demon smiled slightly.
And as the carriage moved slowly along the road, Noir perched on the roof, the wind caressing his black scales.
For the first time since he’d left the cave, he wasn’t traveling completely aimlessly.
He had a destination.
The Demon Realm.
But he wasn’t in a hurry to get there. Because the world lay before him... And Noir fully intended to explore it.
